I'm about to pull the trigger on a new custom build....

Just turned 70 last year. At my age time is the most expensive part any equation. I'm lucky that I have the funds saved for what I will call my last custom rifle order. So this is what I'm looking for:

I'm thinking about one rifle with two interchangeable barrels. One barrel is going to be a 6GT with a 26-inch competition barrel. The other barrel will be a 20-inch carbon wrapped 6.5 Creedmoor with a can for the occasional antler critter. Both calibers use standard a bolt diameter.

Reasoning is first, I've run out of space in my safe. Second, a barrel vise is cheaper than two rifles.

My question is should I buy prefit barrels of have a gunsmith do them? The action is already on its way and should have it next week, and it takes prefits (Defiance Ruckus).

Gee, Think There is a LITTLE Conflict of Interest Here?

Why would a Federal Judge, serving on the board of a NGO that was receiving $100+ MILLION from the government be allowed to rule on a EO from the President of the US to stop funding???

Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the school day/National Anthem before sporting events, what say you?

In another thread (one that I'd prefer not to take away from, a side conversation had broken out between @lash & myself having differing opinions.

I'm trying to remain neutral on the topic but to voice my opinions on the matter- I find the Pledge of Allegiance to have socialist roots and find it to be more of a nonsensical practice that's spanned decades without being given proper scrutiny and anytime it's being questioned it was met with undue scrutiny and 'unpatriotic' accusations.

I doubled down and said that I didn't feel that the playing of our National Anthem had a place in any sporting events (specifically calling out Hockey and Soccer as not even having US roots). I further went on to say that I found both of these to be acts of 'false patriotism' (just what I called it) and that it holds no merit outside of the belief that how we "do it here" and ignores the actual background of either the Pledge of Allegiance being stated in schools or the National Anthem being played before sports (whether it be midget football or the NFL).

What's the Hide's thoughts on this?

If one is "pro" national anthem- another point I raised and would like to hear explained in this thread is why do we expect folks to not only play along with a public display of nationalism during the anthem, but why is it that we incorporate the physical removal of hats/headgear as part of that display? And also- do we "really" believe that to be equally important to demonstrating the proper 'reverence' to the National Anthem at least?

We don't expect women to remove formal hats, we've made allowances for practicing jews to keep their kippah on, we don't expect Americans that are Muslims to remove their hijab's or Sikhs to remove their turbans but it'd be argued that someone wearing a "God Bless the USA" baseball cap to have created a publicly unforgivable mistake to wear that hat during the playing of the National Anthem (even during a grade school/midget football game) and that's the only American we tend to take issue with (for reasons I guess?). What's different with the "God Bless the USA" hat wearer and what does the other exemptions have to do with being allowed on durning public displays of patriotism at events that have very little if anything to do with the USA?

Or... is it as George Carlin once argued (and I agree with)- is it simply some nonsense we just ultimately made up and have gone along with/argued against for decades/generations?

I can't speak for anyone, especially for @lash but I find these behaviors to be nothing more than nonsense carried over year after year and having nothing merit wise that they're often accredited as holding.

I'd go even further- I think we need to break these "sacred cows" down to what they are- just nonsense that was made up (and recently in our history for that matter) and move past that so we can address the more important things concerning our country/what I'd argue as being 'true' patriotism.

So what says the Hide?

Suppressors Wax or similar material baffle in endcap that can be shot through?

Has anyone heard of someone placing one or two hard wax baffles or discs in a compartment at the end of a suppressor? If so, do you have any idea what material is being used? I observed this recently, but was not able to ask any questions regarding how, or why, or what in the world was going on. The material is some sort of blue wax like substance, quite solid.

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

I just got this scope yesterday and thought I'd post some whistle wetters about it. Straight off I'll mention I'm loosely associated with Athlon and have been since this company came about. That being said I've gotten a few scopes from Athlon in the past that had things I personally didn't prefer or for whatever reason the prescription in some of them didn't work for my eyes. However I haven't had any out of 20 or so of their scopes have to be sent back for repair which is pretty darn good.

Each generation of scopes has shown improvement in a number of ways is a point I plan on making in this post.
Back a decade or so I had a G1 Ares BTR 2.5-15x50. It was okay for a first try and my only complaints were turrets action feel was too soft and the Image Quality/IQ could have been better. Some felt the IQ was sub par but I didn't, or I should state not for what it cost back then. I remember comparing it to a FFP SWFA 3-15 and I found it superior IQ wise by a decent margin It worked fine and I sold it a year later to a local hunter who killed a deer that fall with it on the gun. Enough on that scope.

I bought a G1 Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 shortly after that which I suppose you could say was a G 1.5 scope. Athlon had made the turrets better on it. I sold it when the Ares BTR G2 4.5-27 came out and got two of these. Once again Athlon had improved the turret feel. I was impressed by this compared to every other competing brand I'd come across. Like I've mentioned before here on the Hide the Ares BTR 4.5-27's prescription wasn't working well with my eyes. So I sold them and got Cronus G2 4.5-29's which do work well with my eyes. Enough on that.

Speaking of the Cronus G2 turrets. I still like the firm action feel, distinctness, the audible click sound, lack of lash, and how well the .1's on the turret match the line on the housing. IMHO they are about as good feeling as a turret can be. I've had older S&B's, NF's, USO, March's and although each brand of turret felt different I wouldn't say that the Cronus G2 turrets are inferior in feel to any of them.

I had headed out to the shop to have a look see, opened the safe to grab what I thought was a Athlon Midas TAC 5-25 sitting on the shelf to have something to compare immediately the new G3 Ares I had just gotten out of the box. It turned out the G3 turrets were even better. Then I looked closer and realized I had grabbed my G2 Cronus instead! What, how could that even be, no way??!!
This is my first positive comment about this new G3. Not only are the turrets wider than the Cronus, not only are they shorter profile, but they feel better in every way. Also because the G3 turrets are wider there's more room between each click. C'mon man on a mid priced scope like this?????!!!!!! Wow I really have to compliment Athlon at this aspect alone!
Not much longer than this I got my Ares ETR 15-60 out to compare, yep the G3 turrets made these already nice turrets feel mediocre.

All the rest of the controls are IMHO just right. Nothing to loose or too tight and no wiggle of the diopter at all. I like the size of the magnification actuator/switchview on the mag ring, it's the perfect size and it can be easily removed as well.

That's all for today but I have more interesting things to bring out. I did mount the scope on a air rifle for now to use it right on my property so I'll edit this post tomorrow with more thoughts then.
Some photos. The other scope is the G2 Cronus.

Hockey game at the fights

Canadians are upset that the US may raise tariffs to match their own, and apparently upset that Trump jokingly refers to them as the potential 51st state. They've taken to booing our national anthem at their hockey games. Problem is: they've had a most favorable trade imbalance for decades(essentially ripping us off thanks to our feckless politicians), and because of their favorable proximity to the US border, they don't have to spend much on their own national defense. In other words, the US has been their patsy, like the rest of the world, and the liberal left. But their 'privileges' have become their 'rights' now, and they're upset that the gravy train may come to a halt. Thankfully, the US won the hockey game. But their level of immaturity perfectly matches that of the liberal left in this country and elsewhere. Seems to be a universal trait.

Optics WTT SFP for FFP

I have 2 Nikon scopes I’d like to trade for a FFP scope. Can trade one or both can even add boot if needed. Brands I’ll consider are Vortex (not interested in Diamondback Tacticals), Athlon, Arken, Primary Arms. Prefer MIL.

1. Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 with locking side parallax adjustment from 50y-infinity. Nikoplex reticle.

2. Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x50 with Nikoplex reticle.
