372 is a known winner. That 462 is a great saw. I love Mtronic saws, since the updated solenoids they are very reliable. Keep an extra in case it ever were to go down but on Arborsite they are not known to have trouble.

My normal bar on the 440 is a 25”, I have a 32” in case but have rarely used it. I keep a 18” on the 261 and it does most of the work usually except for bigger trunks.

We lose a few trees a year to storms here because heart rot is a real problem on oaks in the area. I did fall the tree in the post above but 99% of our firewood falls on its own.

Hmm, the 462 isnt listed there. Have they done away with it in favor of the 400.1 and 500i ? Surely not. That's a big price jump between those two saws.

Same here on the wood I cut. I fall very few trees. Most of it is storm cleanup or leaners that just finally gave up.

Not to say that I don't enjoy knocking a tree down when I can!

Muzzle brake or suppressor for 300 WM?

Would you recommend the L or the LTI more?

What makes a Tikka better than a Savage? Is there some P320 type stuff with Savages lol

LTI XC is going to be quieter, longer, heavier, little more expensive. The regular nomad XC with a recoilX should in theory reduce recoil more than the LTI XC with a recoil X. This is because there would be more gas pressure at the brake since there is less suppressor volume reducing said pressure.

Feed angle.

Which would be very minimal. However I’ve noticed a couple mags I had tended to push the round high. They would stick on the edge of the chamber. Seemed to be a spring problem but have a different follower would fix that?
Proper feeding of a 22LR isn't about just one thing, or even two things. The basis of proper feeding is timing due to the need to control the round on its path to the centerline of the bore.

Properly accommodating the distance of the magazine from the breech, departure angle of the follower and the two paths associated with the movement of the round from the magazine until the two paths converge and where the extractors are at the point of convergence. The two paths are the rim of the round and the meplat.

The picture below has two sketches (I removed the dimensions as info is proprietary) that represent the two paths as the round is pushed forward by the front of the bolt. If the departure angle, distance from the breech, bolt face configuration, extractor set up, and so on, are off (any one or more) by even a little bit, feeding is a failure. It doesn't mean the round won't go in the chamber, but it does mean the bullet will sustain damage, at the very least. And of course, there's a point where it won't make it into the chamber at all.

So, to adjust feed angle without making other accommodations still leaves one chasing his tail, which is exactly what adjustable magazine releases and catches have folks doing.

So, my thoughts on an adjustable follower are, it's a sloppy way to deal with feeding issues when foundational information is available that ensures things can be done right the first time.

Oh and @XP1K I have a severe roach phobia myself. Anyone who has firewood will have those big brown ones 🫨

My firewood shed is about 200 yards from the house for good reason 😅

Every piece is knocked and checked when I bring any to the house and it stays in the little trailer, not brought in until time to go into the stove.

IT’S OFFICIAL: NPR and PBS Have Been Permanently Defunded!

NPR and USAID were started under the GUISE of noble intentions. Congress members told one story to the voters, and another to the alphabeti.

Educational entertainment is not a function of the federal government, not in the beginning, the middle, and still not now. The emergency broadcast system is, news and education is not. If there were areas unserved by radio, that could be handled by an interest free government loan to a business interested in serving that area. AM radio goes a long damn way, I’m listening to a station over 100 miles away right now. Funding the content is not and never has been the government’s business or function.

Same goes for funding broadband, it’s a con job. I have no fiber, cable or phone lines at my house. I still have 350Mb bandwidth. If the customer base exists, the companies will show up but there are still cost effective alternatives otherwise.

USAID was always a CIA front, period. It started and was perpetually involved in meddling in other countries’ affairs. It can be argued how much of a national security interest that was, but it was never about the poor, hungry or thirsty.

USAID for sure! It was to project American influence. Agency... State Dept. It was designed to win friends and influence people. But it turned into a monster that attacked American political life. When it was supposed to help wave the flag overseas. Like a continuation of the Marshall Plan. But, yeah. Because we needed better meddling than the Soviets. And that was the Cold War being played out globally.

I think funding.starting Public Broadcasting was more benign. But, yes, it morphed into something horrible!

And don't even get me started about the 'broadband' initiatives. VT has dumped shit tons into it for 25 years and still we have shit. Half because of whiney little bitches who don't want cell towers in 'their' little Norman Rockwell neighborhoods. Where they built their 15,000 square foot McMansion. Right next to two others.

Then there is the solar bullshit... Giant graft there. And EV's. Was hilarious that VT and NH had thousands of cars (again) stranded and heading home early because there are no charging stations. There are 8 stations in my town. For an average of 10,000 visitors every weekend. I should put 5 stations on my lower pasture and charge stupid money for a charge. $200? $250? WTF.... they can pay it because it's cheaper than a flatbed. Fuck them.

But, yeah, none of it is out of the goodness of anyone's hearts. There is always an underlying motive. Even if it is not 'the govt's' motive. They are the ones who get bribed with campaign contributions and graft. To do what the crony capitalists want. Look at Al Gore... Mr. "I sold my eco-network to Al Jazeera for $600 Million" and cashed in on my Green New Steal while screwing America.

The sad part is that Public Broadcasting 'could' be a great, balanced and truly high-quality-content station that plays stuff that is not 'economical' when the same air time can be used for Snookie and Drag Queen Races that are disgustingly corrupting to our nation. Nova, American Experience and Nature... Cosmos (the original, not the bad black science man one), great productions done over the years. Could be a national treasure. Instead it is commie propaganda and massive grooming. So fuck them!

Cheers,

Suppressed Subsonic 300 Blackout

I love the SF 300 SPS, I have 2 of them. It makes a subsonic 9" BCM 300 BO laughably quiet. I didn't like how hunched up I had to shoot it with a traditional rail and an IR laser. So I switched to a direct thread YHM Resonator 2 tucked into a 15" rail. I am using a dbal i2 direct mounted to Unity Tactical mount. I put the magpul mlok covers on it and it honestly it's not too bad heat wise unless I just go stupid on the trigger.

To my ears, the Resonator 2 sounds better than the 300 SPS and my assumption is that is from the direct thread vs the SF mount. It's not that it is quieter per se, just sounds better. Using 220 subs.

I have a ruger American 16" bolt gun in 300 black that I put one of my 300 SPS cans on, it honestly sounds better than the AR, even with the longer barrel, because of no port noise. I've been seriously debating SBR'ing that stupid thing and seeing what I can do with it.

Honestly, if you are shooting ONLY subs, just about any suppressor is going to sound good.

Finally! We are going to catch up to Mexico!!!

Cane sugar tastes better.... Unless there is some other reason that Mexican Coke tastes way better than 'American Coke.' I thought it was because real cane sugar was used? Or maybe the glass bottles?

But whether it is chemically the same or not... Taste is why I drink an ice cold soda! Not organic chemistry. But I get your point... one is not worse or better for you.

Or maybe it is if the byproducts of extracting the corn syrup involve lots of shit that leaves massive residual chemicals. Wouldn't know. Never been in the sugar business!

But thanks for the clarification!!!

Cheers!

I also think the Mexican cokes taste better. Why? Is it the cane sugar? I don’t know. Could be the glass bottles. But, I think there is a subtle, but real, formulation difference. Sorta like how a drink from one fountain can taste different than “the same drink” from another.

If you tell the hfcs=bad people this in real life they meltdown. My only real issue with corn sugar is all the chemicals they could be using on the corn (herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc). Maybe they use that crap on sugar cane too. Mexi-coke definitely tastes better than corn coke. I’ve had a bunch of both. Coke was an important part of my diet when competitive cycling was my thing (I’m reformed now). Still use it for energy and recovery from strength training. I love coke.
Ever seen videos of granulated sugar being moved around with a grimy front end loader? They’re out there…

Emotional roller coaster: 6 powder droppers in < 3 years!

You are making me glad I stuck with my RCBS powder dropper I got 44 years ago and mounted it above my FX120i scale that has a Ingenuity Trickler powered by a V3 brain to top off the dropped charge. All I have to do is pull the handle.

View attachment 8729293
That's actually all I would need, or want right there.

I built myself one of the little two speed vibratory powder tricklers and I thought that was a major leap forward.

Finally! We are going to catch up to Mexico!!!

There’s no meaningful metabolic difference between sucrose and hfcs. Sucrose is a disaccharide, consisting of glucose and fructose monosaccharides. HFCS is a mixture of glucose and fructose in roughly equal measure. Sucrose is readily broken down by the body into glucose and fructose. Whether it gets there via a disaccharide, or 2 monosaccharides, the metabolic impact is the same.

Manufacturers in the US use HFCS because we grow a ton of corn, which is federally subsidized; making it substantially cheaper than cane sugar, which is imported and subject to tariffs…

HFCS is also easier to work with, as it is liquid at room temp, making it easier to blend into liquids.

The only thing that removing HFCS from soft drinks does is make them more expensive, for no benefit.

That’s a terrible use of govt effort.

Husky people 🙄

Seriously tho nice saw. I helped the cleanup effort after Helene by monitoring crews to be sure rules were followed. One team was from Oregon and had a 592….what a great saw that was. I have had 2 Huskys myself, I don’t often admit that 🫣 had a couple of Echos too 😅

Suddenly, things become clearer 😂

Yaaassss
I wouldn't mind building a 372 husky to dedicate to a 28, or maybe even a 32" bar.

Currently run a 28 on my ms462. I like the reach. I'd cut it back to a 20" if I had another saw in its class. With a 20" and an 8 pin it rips smaller wood. I do enjoy my 462. It's l8ke a modern 044/440. I should probably try to pick up a standard carb model so it will last as long as the old 044's.

Queue the safety freaks. I had to stump that one as high as the loader could get me to keep it inside the fence that is out of the pic to the right.

One of my worst fears happened to me while I was up there. The tree had long been dead and the bark was turning loose on it, so before I put the face in, I was knocking the bark off of it. It was FULL of roaches. Big ones! When I knocked the bark off the flew everywhere!

I almost unloaded the tractor. I was seriously debating throwing the saw one way, and myself the other way. I really had to dig deep to keep my shit together, lol.
