It depends on height over bore of the sight and number of degrees the reticle is off parallel. The error increases as distance increases.

It’s even worse when some guy on a powerboat goes screaming by when you are christening your new boat!

When shooting an ocw test, I usually have some fowlers to shoot before I start the test. As with everything it depends though. I have had a couple barrels over the years that liked to be weird. One took about 20 rounds to foul in after cleaning and did really weird cold bore stuff if it wasn't dry patched out before a trip to the range. Life is to short to deal with shit like that. So to the trash it went.

Sorry we are starting construction on a retail strip and dealing with too many subs at once at the moment. Then an all-weekend baseball tournament.

For the record, I'm not a comp shooter. I shoot with buddies around the house (500 yards range here) and occasionally we'll go to a longer range place (1000-ish yards). But I'm pretty OCD about accuracy and just want to make sure I'm getting the best thing I can. I'll have the barrel for several years so I don't want to be upset about making a wrong decision for that amount of time.

Open to trades but I’m not interested in that stock unfortunately.

Does just shooting light charges mitigate base stretching? To my knowledge it does not.

The reason to shoot a light charge with a jammed bullet is the pressure spike you get from jamming bullets. You go in a with a ragged edge load and jam bullets you're gonna pop primers.

Light load fire form it and move on

A little bit, i.e just before it starts to bump it usually squeezes the body and pushes the shoulde forward. 001 or so. A lot of 300wm brass grows .02 on its first firing. That big stretch eats up some case life. There are few ways to fire form the brass while mitigating some or most of the stretching at the base. One woukd be a lower charge and jamming the bullets into the lands. Another method would be to create a false shoulder. For this you will need to expand the neck with a larger expander .338 or .358 something like that. Then you slowly size neck lower and lower until the larger diameter of your neck gives a tight fit in your chamber.

I am a famous cheap ass, but if it was some LC or other cheap common brass. I would toss it. Lapua 300wsm brass. I would put some work into to save.

I would shoot some light charges with jammed bullets and see how the cases react becuase its the easiest method.

We've got two out here, and they only play stuff from the 50's - 90's. I have to drive 45 minutes before I get anywhere that I'm forced to listen to that pop-couhtry garbage.

I'll gladly listen to either "Who's gonna fill their shoes" or "Blue eyes cryin' in the rain" (or sometimes both) every hour on the hour out here before one of these modern city boys.

Bonus that Saturday morning from 8-10 AM, one of the channels does a call-in marketplace, where listeners can sell stuff over the airwaves... You get some really good laughs from old Aunt Ethel trying to hock old Tupperware for $3 etc...
