Think the Midas Tac is an excellent option for the price! How would that compare to the Ares?
Agreed. I’ve owned all 3. When the Ares came out, it was great, but Athlon had just joined the scene and was making waves and the Vortex PSTII was the closest thing at the time. There are things I liked better about the Ares at the time. The Ares, Midas, and Helos are really on par when it comes to optical quality and are all surprisingly good for chinesium.
I’d just get the Midas and save the $$, their illumination is about worthless anyway. In all 5 of the samples I’ve had it was daylight bright on the lowest setting and the knob is pretty stiff.
The Ares is ok for the money, but I do not think it is worth the extra money either. I do think the Midas Tac 6-24 is very good for the money and know people that use them in comps… no illum as stated. I have used the Helos BTR as well, and it was nice for the money as well. The Midas Tac is what I usually recommend down near that price range.
