Car alarms

Do cop cars even have LoJack trackers anymore? I recovered a stolen motorcycle once before I retired. I had a restored Chevelle SS with the classic car version of LoJack. Had its own internal battery and texted me if the car was moved without the key. Never needed it but it was peace of mind. Also plenty of insurance.

Gun mph for wind holds in the field

Using a wind meter to get the wind is easy...you can turn it until the propeller stops turning, that is the direction the wind is coming from. Here in NE NM at the coal canyon match, the wind switches directions....ALOT...
The gun MPH works, I start adding a tenth at 700yds. So .8 at 700, and .9 at 800 etc. At 6600 feet it works for me.
Frank has some great videos, as does Rifle Kraft...you tube is your friend.

Hunting & Fishing First Western Elk Hunt…Essential Gear/Clothing Advice Needed

The best money spent will be in your boots, socks and sleeping bags...if your feet get cold and wet, you are fucked...be able to dress in layers is huge advantage.
Good glass saves you miles of walking, being able to identify a good animal saves you for walking miles and miles. I use 10x40 Swarovski binos. Not too heavy, I use a bino harness, keep a elk diaphragm in there to stop a elk to look at helps, also store cough drops too, trust me, you'll need them coming from that low of elevation... I always carry hard candy for people too, keeps the throat from getting that dry cough...
I guided for alot of years here in NM. I live at 6500, and hunt avg elevation of 8500. Reach out to a outfitters close to the area and ask them for gear recommendations also.
My sleeping bag is good to -20, don't skimp cash on cheap gear.
Jetboil is an awesome piece of gear too, have a way to make fire, gotta stay warm, and mother nature in WY is a fickle bitch...it starts snowing early and often...Im up here in WY as I type this visiting family.

UNCOMMANDED STRIKER PISTOL DISCHARGES

I usually carry a Glock 33 as a pocket pistol but with an empty chamber.
My Sig 1911 in 357 Sig on the other hand always has a loaded chamber.
My Sig P320 in 357 Sig is a Frankenstein built from two separate Sig P320's and has an external safety.
It is carried with a loaded chamber.
As a trained Root Cause Investigator, I can tell you human observation and memory of what occurred is the last place one looks for objective evidence of what occurred.
I believe most (All?) of these non-commaned discharges are the result of holster interference or mis management of routine cleaning and incorrect reassembly.
The Remington Trigger comes to mind where I actually witnessed an uncommanded discharge.
Checking sights before deer hunting, my God Son's 700 was sitting in the rests loaded and discharged.
His recollection is that he DID NOT touch the trigger but no amount of testing could replicate the uncommanded discharge.
Therefore no firearm is 100% safe and a long as you have it pointed away from a person, you should be OK.
Spontaneous discharge in a holster is most likely due to interference that may or may not be replicated.

Remmington knew they had a defective trigger. The bean counters didn't want to spend the additional 5 cents per rifle it would cost to put Mr Walkers redesign into production.

I have never heard of any of the other popular striker fired pistols going off while in a proper holster.
Like someone once said " I never experienced a tire blowout but there is enough evidence out on the highways that they occur much more frequently than we think."

When does the winning start?

Sometimes winning is not losing any more. America has been slipping away for decades, seemingly faster and faster. For now it feels as if that slippage has slowed. The freedom-hating democrats are in full retreat. The complicit leftist MSM has been put on-notice. The YouTubz is full of sky screamers, which amuse me to no end. EF Super unleaded is more than a dollar less a gallon than last summer.
I mean, I wasn't exactly expecting 3.0% mortgages or a 30% decrease in consumer goods. While it would be nice., doesn't seem likely for anyone. Plus, we're only an eighth-ish of the way along. I'll play along for awhile longer.

What would "winning" look like for y'all?
Don't kid yourself. We're losing at a faster pace than we've ever seen in our lifetimes.

this place is going to be a digital Gaza in the near future. You want to hear another unpopular opinion ? We'd have been better if kamala had won the election. There, I said it.

She's an idiot, dont get me wrong, and I firmly believe 90% of democrats are just plain wicked, but hear me out. People were spurred into action and there was quite a bit of resistance at the local level and especially in the rural areas. Now people have just been lulled back to sleep. At peace because the "anointed one" and that's what they call him, is back in power.

This is a pretty good summation of where we're at. I don't always agree with everything this guy has to say, but I think he's pretty close on this one.

Small varmint kills (the bastards!)

Back in post #259 I posted about a fellow church member who had a gopher problem and how I volunteered to thin the population. Little did I know it would turn into a part-time job. Started the projects with rimfires and eventually worked up to centerfires.

Most of the shooting was with a Tikka SV .223 and the Bergie 17HMR. The SV was new this spring and I had some trouble finding a load the 8 twist barrel liked. Finally used some Hornady 60 gr Vmax and could keep 5 in a 1" dot @ 100 yds. The result are quite satisfactory.

I figured out a simple method of keeping tracks of hits and ended yesterdays shoot with 1,088, all from the same landowners property. I'm sure there's another hundred or two left to add to the count.

As soon as they roll up these windrows there will be more good shooting.

Best retirement job ever!

Anderson Mfg. Sold to Ruger..... Any concerns?

Concerns specific to this one instance? Not really; I like Ruger as a company and frankly Anderson didn't bring anything to the market that's irreplaceable.

Concerns in general? Yeah; continued consolidation and concentration of capital and market share is a problem because if it continues unchecked then we'll eventually run the risk of a fragile industry. I don't see much current risk of that in the manufacture of firearms but it's a real problem in the ammunition industry.

On a side note, expect much more of this in coming years as the Boomers continue to retire. Some of the businesses will successfully be sold or passed on; many will just fold.

Will Ruger keep the Anderson level pricing or will they raise prices because it's now "Ruger???"

Anderson's dead, dude. Their assets will probably be used to make more Marlin 1895s or Ruger MkIVs or whatever's in demand at the moment. Hate to say it, but the market probably won't miss Anderson when I can get a three-pack of PSA receivers for $120.
