How’s the gun market?

I have gotten a lot of trade offers but I don’t really need anything else.

I’m not desperate, don’t need the cash. Just don’t like safe queens. But I’ll hold onto them till we get some knuckle head in office trying to ban them. Maybe they’ll be worth something at that point. However, I do agree that this is definitely the time to buy since it’s a huge buyers market!

Optical zero

Optically aligned with the plane of the bore? I haven't heard that one before, do you mean bore axis? Or, are you trying to describe optical center vs mechanical center? I don't know.

Mechanical and optical center have nothing to do with the bore, bore sighting, or a relationship with the bore axis, either can be found independent of the optic being mounted. Mechanical center is as discussed, it's the point at which the elevation and windage adjustments are centered within their respective travel limits. 100 MOA total elevation and windage adjustment would give a mechanical center/zero of 50/50 and 50/50. Optical center is a little different and it's the point where the reticle's center will appear to stay stationary when the scope is rotated about its axis. This may not equal mechanical center, it could be that in relation to mechanical center, the optical center of an optic is more like 52/48 and 53/47.

Most optics companies ship scopes optically centered because it's fast and easy to do and is relatively close enough to mechanical center for a user to get boresighted and zeroed without too much effort.

If your eyes aren't as good as they used to be, get the scope back to a center, dial down about six mils/20 MOA from there, and start out at close range to get on paper and push out from there.

Optical zero

I may have to but my eyesight is not the best anymore.

I guess I should reword that to say optically aligned with the plane of the bore? Or is that not really the case?

I have been using my little bore sight kit for so long I can't even remember last time I went old school on it. Probably why I bought a kit. Lol

Not as easy to see through the receiver. And the mounting is probably temporary, not the way I like but parts on hand.

Mk 13 Mod 0 stock

That doesn't seem too far off for a MK13 without optic and a stripped case. If it's still the same as a it was a few years ago they some hefty buyer fees so actual price after all fees and taxes are likely 10k+. Just googled it buyers premium is 18.5%.

There are nuances with the stiller mk13's that separate a $8,000 gun and a $13,000 gun. I think Ryan's gun sold low because of poor marketing and Rock Island being a poor fit for the rifle.

The Wylie actions command the highest values. Every Wylie released was a contract overrun. Every Serial number lives within the serial number block for issued MK13-5's and MK13-7's. Serials being in the 1-1500 range. If doing a museum grade MK13-5 with a Stiller or MK13-7 - The Wylie action is the best option.

The Second most desirable is a Garland Marked action. The garlands serials range roughly in the 1500-1900's. While some garlands were used on USMC mod 7's, the actions on market are outside of the serial range of the issued MK13-5/7's.

The third most desirable is are the Shiner marked MK13 actions. These came out after Stiller sold and the markings and fonts are different. These are obviously outside the issued range.

The least most desirable is the current production Mk13 actions. They are have the same different markings as above, and they changed the bolt. The bolts handles are angled.
