Sidearms & Scatterguns Red dot or not on your "life or death" pistol?

I don't use red dot sights on my "life or death" handguns. I do seem to shoot a bit better with them, but I've also found that it's one more thing to deal with if you have to quickly pull that gun in an emergency and quickly acquire a target. Yeah, you can make sure the battery is good and the button is pushed everytime you walk out the door. But, if you are like me, you might not even touch that gun for a month, and you don't have time to worry about whether or not the sight will function. But, when you draw it, you want to be able to quickly acquire a target and deal with a threat without having to push a button or move the gun a certain way to activate a sight. Not to mention, it's one more thing that can get hung up on clothing, or the inside of a computer bag.

What is the general consensus on using red dots on "life or death" handguns?
Dont turn the dots off, ever.

Accuracy International Picture Thread

Looks like fun.
Most .308's can be very accurate, it's worth the time and trouble to work up a good load. Ask what the local winning Palma/Fullbore shooters are using and see if the helps.
What size are the 9, 10 & X rings?
Spoke to the guys I was shooting with, and they were using a variety of different bullets: 208 ELDs, 200.20x Bergers, 155SMKs, 155.5gr Bergers.

I didn't want to go down the reloading rabbit hole with 308, was just planning to shoot factory ammo for practice and develop a load for shooting animals out to 400ish meters (hence 16" barrel), which this load should be good enough for.

If I do decide develop the load further I'll get some better dies and brass, and probably try some 155 ELD-Ms.
168 ELD-Ms at 2500fps, in the 1:12 twist are probably at the edge of stability.

The 168SMK ammo at 2430fps looks like it's very near transonic even at 600 yards. Maybe I'll get a proper length 308 barrel at some stage.

My pistols without red dots don’t ever get shot. My carry, bedside and whatever other pistols all have dots on them. I’m not sure I will ever want to shoot a non-dot pistol again. I’m doing research to find where to send my MK23 slide to be milled so I will enjoy shooting that again.

The enemy has been behind the wire much longer than you think. 2017 Vegas shooting.

PSWhat ever happened to that whack job on Scout who was taking us to task for wearing Bigfoot suits and making big footprints? He parachuted in like a maniac to say it was guys like us who were interfering with his serious research! And yet no epic thread post back then.. yes, I still own my Bigfoot suit.

…Zilker Park and Barton Springs, one of the nicest swimming holes anywhere.

Those were both staples of my childhood, absolutely amazing memories there along with Travis Lake! I wish I hadn’t gone so dang blind so young, I used to love how crystal clear Barton Springs was and wish I’d been able to learn to scuba dive there rather than the murky ass lakes around Phoenix. Good memories, though. I used to love riding the train there!
