The fat shot

OP here. I am 50 year old white dude and 5'8". Family with one kid he's 10. Doc apt end of last year we talked fat shot and I was not a fan of the idea. Still not. But then I was 296lbs and the plan was I would loose 50lbs by this summer so I could go zip lining. Well I weighed in at 301lbs Friday. I have been yoyoing between 285 and 295 past 6 months - we just got back from beach vacation which pushed me over the 300 mark. While my kid is in school I eat good lunches and walk almost daily. Then go out of town for a weekend trip and after spending 2 weeks loosing 10lbs I find it in 2 days. I know the answer is hard work and a clean diet. Last time I was sub 200lbs and fit was football in 10th grade. Not sure if insurance is going to cover zepbound or not - not sure I'll take it if they do. But I need to do something different
Find a functional medicine doctor if you can swing it. They will do what conventional docs won’t. Eating clean is a pain in the ass but it works. My wife is seeing one and it has helped immensely. You’ll eat clean, stay off the shitty carb/flour products and increase your salt intake to name a few things. If you’re on drugs from a doc you’ll be off of them and probably ditch them for good.

brand new car urge

A friend had a tuned CTS-V. That was probably one of the fastest street cars I've ever driven. Was putting down 636hp to the wheels. The Blackwing would be my choice. Owned/Driven some fast cars and bikes, they all sucked to DD, the Cadillac didn't.

The Viper was the worse to drive around town. The heat off the exhaust made it unbearable. Was a late 2000's model though.

As I have often bragged, my smoked brisket can tempt the faith of a vegan.
Oh man that hit home. We just got a laugh out of that.
My wife's nephew is here for some ranch rehab and about 8 or so years ago converted him and his brother back into meat eaters with my smoked prime rib. Just did another 1 this weekend and it was already laughed about.

Thought you might find this interesting.

Caution:

The authors are, however, Chinese - judging by the jingoist white trash mindset that is prevalent, this might ruffle some feathers.

Interesting article, especially the level of tinning expertise they had! I had not thought of the importance of tinning, but to get the bronze alloys to adhere when casting, it would be critical! That they were doing this in the 400’s is fascinating. This is what is so much fun about arcane academic papers!!!

Though not as advanced as the folding techniques of the Japanese (much later anyway) this does use a very similar principle of combining brittle, hard sharpenable edges with a spine that would be flexible slough to keep the sword from shattering. Way earlier than I’d assumed.

Military technology almost always outpaces civilian technology because the losing side dies!

So innovation is extra critical!

Jscb: There are handheld spectrometers out there that are very fast and non-destructive for checking out the age of the metal. Museums, colleges, even some manufacturing places have them. So may be easy enough to get a spectral analysis that will tell you if the bronze on your sword is old or new.

Cheers!

Flooding in TX Hill Country/Kerrville

Work crews pulled away from the water, this morning. If you witnessed the amazing work ethic of every single person, you’d have hope for America.
The effort is unrelenting, fresh people relieving worn out, who rest a bit and dig back in. More and heavier equipment, more groups arriving. Food, fuel mobilized, and housing provided for the many workers. Systems fine tuned as we learn to accommodate the influx. Tomorrow: back at it.
We (at least used to be) at our best when tragedy strikes. As you said, there is hope.
