It’s fine.I confess I've been a bit anxious about my Tikka's prefit being put on at 75 ft/lbs. I didn't put it on and would have to spend a decent bit to get a vise/torque wrench/action wrench if I wanted to do it at 100 ft/lbs though. Is there a good way to test whether it's an issue? I remember Morgan Lamprecht and some other guys testing chassis issues by hitting their barrels with a rubber mallet to see if it would zero-shift due to improper stock/action contact.
I dont know about this line of reasoning...We see hand tight barrels work fine, but no way in hell would I go hand tight on my scope base or rings. As long as the headspace is correct, you dont even need all of the threads on most tenons to be able to handle standard pressures. Consistency is the main reason for the torque discussion.Name a more critical fastener on your rifle than that one which contained 60,000psi plus of pressure.
Try and measure how much torque it takes to thread that barrel out with the set screw still tight. I bet you max out your torque wrench.
But the threads/shoulder of the fastener are still not loaded in tension, or at least not “proper” tension for the “fastener” size.Try and measure how much torque it takes to thread that barrel out with the set screw still tight. I bet you max out your torque wrench.
More critical for what?Name a more critical fastener on your rifle than that one which contained 60,000psi plus of pressure.
Gaining access to the roof was as simple as hopping over a railing. It was so easy a cave man……………..About the screwdriver found on the roof.
Was it the shooters or left behind by a maintenance guy? Flat head, Phillips or torques? Maybe an allen head driver? Does it match the type of screws for removing the action?
My guess is that it was used by the shooter to gain access to the roof. He previously scouted for the shooting point and how to gain access to it. He didn't just show up and make a plan on the fly to shoot Kirk.
I've had better results with them closer in two rifles. My 308 has an m852 match chamber. At book length with the 178 eldm I'm only jumping .005" It shoots them pretty well if I get a consistent batch.Well then try pushing the ELDM'S deeper. Try 50, 60 and 70 thou jump or until the crunch gets too much. Might work for you as well.
I did not see any velocity increase going from 20 thou jump to 70 thou jump with the 155 ELDM.
Bingo. Our jaws and bushings haven’t changed in price at all. Before we started selling this kit it was a relatively unknown vise, and when we promoted it they had to increase production drastically to meet our demand. The price was then ratcheted up pretty quickly, and the terms to be a reseller became less and less favorable for us. Smaller margin, larger commitments, longer lead times, etc. Apparently it was far more trouble to make than they were initially charging for. That's probably why area 419 don't sell it as a kit anymore. I've wanted one for a while but decided I'll never be able to justify now so I'm trying to come up with a different option. Pity no one else makes something similar.
