Steyr THB .308 20" barrel

I went to Austria last year for a pleasure trip in 2024 so I felt obligated to finally buy a Steyr. I aways wanted one, specifically a SSG, but...Today, I picked up one after buying it on Gunbroker, new and hundreds less than retail. It's olive with the ventilated stock. The barrel is medium-heavy with 0.8" muzzle diameter. Trigger pull is under 3 pounds. By feel, there is no creep/slack and breaks clean at what "feels" less than what my tool reads. Interestingly, Steyr recommends first cleaning after 40 rounds. Traditionally, I do the 1, clean, 2 clean, etc. so whether I do 40 remains to be seen. It joins the other range rifles but this one gives me a hunting rig option. Glass decision will made this weekend...Kahles or S&B to keep the Euro theme. Range report to follow (compare with CZ 600 range).

Retesting some reloads today. Very odd results!

Worked up a few great rifle loads last week. SD'S anywhere from 2-6. ES anywhere from 5-10. Reloaded the same this week. Same powder and charge, brass and primers and seating depth with same bullets and A&D 120 scale and Garmin Chrono. Well I must say this shocked me. SD'S were running in the 20's and ES was anywhere from 30-60. How can this be? I can't figure this one out! All Alpha Brass was prepared at the same time. FL sized with neck bushing and then ran a mandrel thru them before reloading. Am I missing something here?

Warhorse Development Bags

With so many excellent options in the industry, I was on the hunt for a do all shooting bag. This lead me to settle on the "Comanche" from Warhorse Development. The reason I am posting here is because I wanted to share my experience with the order. Communication about products was immediate, guidance and first hand experience was shared, and shipping was relatively immediate.

I was perfectly satisfied with the transaction and had already made my mind up that when funds clear, I will be ordering more products from them. Upon opening the package, there sit the bag, a bunch of stickers, and a hand written note from the owner. This is the epitome of freaking awesome CS and building a relationship with your customers.

If you haven'd ordered from them, check them out.

50 Shades of ODG

Inspire me. FDE is dead and the grass is always greener on the other side. We need a proper thread for ODG since baby poop brown just isn't sexy.

Received this back from POF today, needed some work done and a new barrel and took the opportunity to moved it from black to ODG. Still have a few things to add but keeping this one simple and light. Features a Riflespeed gas block and Geissle SSA-E X Lightning bow amongst other mods.

Build using Geissle upper receiver on a POF P415 lower, both in ODG. The Geissle is anodized while the POF is cerakote. POF really nailed the color. Hardware is all naked titanium just to try something different. CODA carbon hand guard, lots of V-Seven parts, X-Caliber fluted HBAR profile 223 Wylde barrel, Geissle SSA-E X lighting bow trigger.

P415 12.5" SBR. Yeah, mostly black but lots of ODG accessories.

Is the March FX 4.5-28x52 my new ZCO?

Of course this is a somewhat rhetorical question, but there is an ounce of query in there. You see, I just picked up a new March FX 4.5-28x52 on sale from Eurooptic. If you have ever looked into this brand you will note that it is generally very expensive, and the premium is interesting considering most Japanese scopes, OEM, or otherwise are in general more affordable when compared to a ZCO, Tangent, or SnB. However from all I can tell this model is absolutely on par with any one of those brands, and it's understandable now why it commands a premium. Now, I have not had time yet to take it out to distance and see how it tracks but I can tell you that from every thing I can see it compares very well against a ZCO or an SNB, and even my old TT and Premier. This honestly feels like the most refined optic I have ever owned, and I have owned about every top tier brand besides a ZCO, now I feel I don't need a ZCO frankly. With the 4.5-28x52 the glass is stunning in clarity, pop, color, and resolution. The wide angle eyepiece offers a very wide field of view, more so than any of my other tactical scopes. Optically it's very impressive considering it's compact size, the glass is very reminiscent of a PM2 in color temperature. At the upper range the eyebox seems a little tight but otherwise 25x and lower it's fine. The turrets are very audible and positive, the zero stop is an eloquent design and easy to set. All of the controls are smooth and offer excellent feedback and lockup. The engravings even look premium and perfect. Though I will not take it out to distance until next week the reticle is excellent, it's not to thick, nor to thin at any mag, it's laser sharp, and all the markings are exactly where they should be, as a matter of fact the reticle was designed by our resident Dark Lord Of Optics, and i'll say great job Mr. Koshkin! Though March has been around for a while it's nice to see them coming out with something so premium. I think the other top tier European brands need a good Japanese competitor. I truly appreciate Japanese excellence, refinement, and attention to detail and the March FX 4.5-28x52 is a great example of Japanese perfectionism, in fact I am so impressed I may have to pick up another March should the need arise.

After I take this the distance I will report further on the scopes performance.

If you want a further review and way more detail on this optic I highly recommend Glassaholics extensive review and comparo against the Canada's main battleship the Tangent Theta.
