If no intention of swapping scopes, any downside to an action that's tapped for direct scope rings?

I know most people here generally tend toward actions with integrated picatinny rails because they either intend or can envision likely scenarios where they want to move scopes around to different rifles or try different scopes while maintaining a rough return to zero... but... is there any downside to an action that is only tapped for rings vs action with integral rail, all else being equal, if one fully intends to mount one particular scope to it and not move it around? I have to imagine there's some, maybe small, level of weight savings and compactness advantage to simply having rings directly attached through the tapped holes of an action without integral rails, and probably a fair bit of cost advantage too (yes, I violated my own "all else being equal" rule there), but I admit I am not confident enough to say that I have considered every little aspect of this choice.

Is there something I am overlooking beyond the idea that this prospective rifle will not have the scope moved around? Maybe something to do with eye box/eye relief adjustment range? Anything?

To be clear, I am unconcerned both with what the cool guys at the range might think about such a choice or with some mythical ideas regarding resale value at some indeterminate time point in some indeterminate future might be, I'm wondering if there's something mechanical/tangible/meaningful to the function of such an action choice given the premise that there's no intention of moving/swapping the scope (unless I have to because it broke or something, but that can happen regardless of rail vs direct threaded rings). Through much error/experience I have learned that sharing things like optics/suppressors/other parts among different guns is both annoying and suboptimal, it's worth the price to just keep each gun a complete system, well that's my opinion on it anyway, and like I said, it was formed through a few decades of trying the opposite.

Advice needed for 2017 Buick Enclave repairs

Noticed a significant shake in the steering wheel at speeds 60 mph and above. I am going to replace the brakes and rotros but wanted to take it to the dealer to check everything out since I plan on driving this for at least another 2-4 years. Here's their diagnosis and quote:
1. Steering gear w/ alignment - $3,253.27
2. Both rear lower control arm bushings - $967.43
3. Front & rear brake + rotors - $1,331.63 (I'm gonna do this so maybe $500)
4. Front flex pipe (starting to crack) - $1,400.30

I think this estimate is ridiculous. How complicated would it be to DIY the steering gear (not the alignment), bushings, and flex pipe?

Optics Hensoldt 3-12x56 FF Mildot

Hensoldt 3-12x56mm FF 34mm tube, .1 mil turrets, illuminated Mildot reticle, front focal. Moving to a LPVO on this rig.

There isnt a finer one out there and this is like new. Glass is perfect, no salt, turrets are flawless, body is perfect, no ring marks. Was in a Reptilia AUS 1.54 mount. Happy to take more pics if needed.

Arguably still the finest eyebox in the industry and Teir 1 glass.

Firearms 338 Edge +P complete setup

The action started as a Winchester M70 Classic Stainless in 300RUM and milled out the rear of the magazine well for a Wyatt's extended box. The internal length is approximately 3.840" and windowed to hold three rounds down. It'll hold 1+1 with longer rounds with the bullet tip sitting in the feed ramp. FWIW, it feeds .300WinMags very well too.

The receiver threads have also been opened up to 1.0625" and the receiver faced perpendicular to the threads. The bolt face has also been dressed to match the receiver.

The bottom metal is a PTG "Oberndorf" style long action M70 also milled out to accept the Wyatt box. It's nothing fancy to look at but is robust and works.

The barrel is a 29" 1-9.5 Brux Heavy Varmint with a five-port Beast by Muzzle Brakes and More. With brake 31.5 inches. The overall weight of the rifle and scope is 17.8 lbs and with the Razor, Beast brake, a 300gr bullet at 2950 recoils about like a .243. The barrel currently has mid 200 documented rounds - 40 rounds of 300gr SMKs over IMR7977, and 60 rounds of 285ELDs over H1000 (original owner) plus 80 of N570 and 300 OTM after doing the +P chamber by Shawn Carlock. Load of 86 grains of 570, 300 OTM, BR2 is giving .5 (5 shots) at 2950 fps. Shawns load data says you can go to 100 gr N570. I left it at 2950.

The stock is a McMillan A-5 and bedded with Marine Tex. Hook was filled in and stock painted. The barrel is fully bedded forward to roughly the balance point and free floated forward from there. Adjustable cheek and ARCA rail added.

Includes set of +P dies with micro seater.

PTG .338 Edge reamer that has cut two chambers, a PTG .338 Edge Go-Gauge
-Redding FL neck bushing die and Competition Seater (directly from Defensive Edge)
-100pc Norma 300RUM and neck turned to .014 once fired.
-Approximately 270 Berger 300 OTM bullets.

Reason selling is Shawn just did a 300PRC +P for me with 215 bergers. No need for both rifles.

Rifle, dies, brass and bullets is $2000

Vortex Razor Gen 2 with rings, throw lever and caps is $1600

Everything $3500

Rifle, dies, brass and bullets is $2200

Vortex Razor Gen 2 with rings, throw lever is $1600

Accessories WTS Mostly unfired Rem700 and Tikka takeoff barrels Cerakoted and threaded

Moving along new takeoffs and a couple I shot/tried very briefly. Details to follow but all are Cerakoted F or H series black and threaded appropriately for barrel diameter and caliber. Threading dialed in to bore not Outside diameter on a fine Precision Matthews lathe. Usually only work on my projects but had some hot days and just included them in the process in the A/C staying cool.

All prices are with shipping included CONUS. FYI If a guy is lucky a sporter barrel ships just under $20. If you grab a few I'll pass along the savings.

1) Rem 700 Barrels - Brand new unfired takeoffs threaded 5/8 x 24 and cerakoted black
- .308 Win takeoff 10 twist 5R rifling 24" $170 shipped
- 6.5 CM takeoff 8 twist 5R rifling 24" (QTY 2) $150 shipped each

2) Tikka Barrels - light use
- .243 Win Stainless 22" 8 twist, 1/2 x 28 threaded, black cerakote - like new 20 rounds fired by me. I have 4 other hunting cartridges so not sure what I was thinking. $160 shipped....these are hard to find and this is basically new.
- 6.5 Creedmoor 24" 8 Twist 1/2 x 28 threaded, black cerakote - Probably 40 rounds on it of load development for a hunting season $110 shipped
- 7mm Rem Mag 24" Fluted 9 twist Threaded 9/16 x 24 black Cerakote - Swapped with a guy and he said 100 Rds and it looks no more than that on the bore scope with sharp lands and no firecracking in the throat/lands. $90 shipped
- 7mm Rem Mag 24" 9 twist Stainless new takeoff barrels (Qty 3) not threaded or cerakoted yet but will do that if you want. The Tikka muzzle ends on these are the same or slightly less than the proper OD of 5/8 x 24 threads so you can do it but a shoulder should be added and it's more time/work. 9/16 x 24 is better/easier but less options for a brake. Anyway not looking for work but will set you up with a new threaded barrel if you're shooting 7Rem Mag now because I'm a nice guy and I'd want a brake.;)

A note on headspacing....Tikka's are pretty good and have headspaced for me with different barrels/actions but you need to get your 'Smith to check or check with go/no gages yourself if you know what you're doing.

The Rem 700 barrels could be close or good (headspace properly) but they could easily be out due to more variance in the components so DON'T assume they will and if you like your face don't assume any barrel/action does without checking or getting it checked properly.

Just PM me privately so you don't attract scammers unless it's general question everyone would benefit from. First come first serve...prefer electronic payment but will take money orders.REm 700 6.5-308 Ch end.jpgRem 700 6.5CM -308.jpgRem700 6.5 CM 308 Muzzle.jpgTikka 7RM-7RM-6.5CM-243.jpgTikka 7RM 6.5cm 243.jpgTikka 7 Rem Mag.jpg

Cheap coyote gun help

Good evening everyone!

I’m looking to pick up a cheap (relatively) coyote rifle.

Want a bolt action, threaded, reasonably lightweight, I’m leaning towards 22 arc but I’m open to other options (22-250, 6 arc, or 243) this will be a daytime hunting rifle since I’m happy with how my thermal gun is for night shooting.

It will ride in my truck 99% of the time for the occasional coyote, groundhog, skunk, or any other varmint I might encounter while out checking my hunting properties during the day.

I have been leaning towards a gen 2 Ruger American, but I have also been eyeing the 110 predator gun from savage.

I’d love to piece together a custom rifle but that doesn’t fall in to my budget at this time…..getting married, starting a new job, moving, and paying for a honeymoon has really cut in to my play around money hahaha

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Powder IN-STOCK thread

Well, I'd like to start a thread for people to post in-stock powder when they find it. It only works if people keep participating and everyone stays on topic. The last general reloading in-stock thread died, so I figured I'd start one for powder ONLY. Primers are typically out-of-stock within seconds, and projos are becoming easier to find.
