ED-AR 1-8x: LPVO with parallax

Discovery Optics has quietly been making high featured optics in the price tier usually considered "budget". Discovery sent me a pre-release sample of their new ED-AR 1-8x24SFIR FFP LPVO. This is part of their ED line of optics, this utilize Japanese ED glass. This LPVO is an evolution on 1-6x24 ED-AR, adding illumination and a side-focus parallax adjustment knob. This feature is very rare in LPVOs. Moreover, this scope is able to focus from infinity to 5 yards.

The overall glass quality was bright, clear and sharp. While not quite the same league as the Vortex Razor HD it come much closer than most LPVOs under $500. At launch this scope is selling for a street price of $200 on Amazon and the Discovery Optics website which makes this optic cheaper than Swampfox, Primary Arms and many other budget optics! The retail version does not include rings or a mount.

Like other FFP's, the ED-AR also suffers from a thin reticle at 1x. Unfortunately the ED-AR's illuminator is typical of most LPVO's, not quite daylight bright, but useful in low light or CQB. I would suggest Discovery offer this optic with a much thicker 1x reticle configuration similar to the Sig TANGO MSR.

Over multiple range visits, the scope held zero. It has a lifetime warranty. With their new service office in California customer service shouldn't be a problem. If they can keep this unit at this price point the ED-AR has the potential to change the LPVO landscape.

22 ARC gas gun success.

Who here has had luck on a 22 arc build and what was your recipe? I tried to cheap out against my better judgement with a ballistic advantage 18” fluted barrel and brownells type 2 bolt.
After break in, I tried 3 different ammo types, 3 suppressors and bare muzzle, gas shut off and two scopes. The best 5 shot group I’ve had was .8”@100 yards and that wasn’t repeatable. Average group size was 3” with mostly vertical stringing. These groups were shot after letting the barrel cool to ambient temperature.
At the same time, I was alternating with shooting my 6.5 cm gas gun that had an average group size of .8” with 4 different types of ammo, so I don’t believe that this is a shooter issue.
Attached is a pic of a representative group from the arc build.

Maggie’s Riding The Storm Out

I'm sure there are many watching the same thing I am, and also in the path..............massive storm west to east in the middle of the country.
I'm just west of the KC metro..........it's 26 deg. and it's been raining for 12 hours............the blizzard watch goes in to effect at 3:00 am.......and runs for 24 hours............predicting....1/2"-3/4" of ice then 7"-14" inches of snow on top of it.
Interstates closed..........Mo. governor ask for National Guard assistance, Ks. governor declares state wide emergency.
Mo. High Patrol says if you are stranded on the highway, expect to be there for hours............
I got food, beer, whiskey, and a generator, and plenty of gas.........................so, I'm.........riding the storm out.........let's hear about everyone else in the path of this storm.........and last but not least...............crank it up..................

CA Ranger - I might just do it.

I am looking for a decent .22lr bolt rifle for myself and to help my kids get more proficient with dialing turrets and bolt guns in general. We have a really good maple seed program in my area, so there are many competitions for the kids to enjoy.

I am looking at buying a CA Ranger 22. For me it checks so many of the boxes, but I haven't ever seen one in real life.

I keep going back and forth between the Ranger, the Bergara BMR CF, or a CZ 457 variant. While the CZ seems like a good option, the price ends up creeping up really quick for me since I dont want to spend money on features that I will inevitably upgrade like stock or barrel...

The Ranger just seems like it has the trigger, barrel and "decent" stock; all of which means nothing if it doesn't shoot well.

Bergara BMR CF is light but maybe doesn't shoot as well as the standard version and has basically no aftermarket support but if its like my Bergara and others I have shot, accuracy should be no problem.

CZ 457 gets heavy for the kiddos but its probably the best investment overall.

Long story short I'm probably going to buy a CA Ranger 22, if this is a disaster of an idea someone please stop me.
