Case annealing not that duanting

This always seem to to be one of the most divisive subjects, where everyone thinks they have a secret trick but nobody can prove why their method is any better.

Having watched the era of the homereloader annealing cases begin and reloaded my first seveal thousand cases in an era before it started. I always wonder when people talk about annealing and what it does for them. How many rounds they reloaded before they started annealing. How many firings they were accustom to getting out of a case. How often they were splitting necks. As compared to the present.

I routinely made it to 15 without loosing more than a couple to split necks before I started annealing. I rouitey had acceptable verticals out to 1k without annealing.

I would guesstimate I split less necks now by a little. I split a couple necks in some 7-8x 6 arc brass recently. I went ahead and annealed the brass and haven't split another they are at 11 now.

Could the temperature range to get acceptable results is much wider than people think? As evidenced by the fact that everyone says their process works. Is it much easier to do than people make it out to be?

In my opnion the most important part of the process is dealing with oxidation inside the neck afterward. After that most of us aren't shooting the diffrence anyway. 🙈🙉🙊 I know half of sniperhides brass isn't making it past 4 or 5x before the pockets give out. 🤣🤣🤣

Thoughts, rants, dissertations, adhominem, poems, shit slinging, monkey sounds and slap fighting, all welcome here. I don't judge.🤣🤣🤣

Match Ammo "Shelf Life"

Hi guys, first post on the form. Ive recently started to reload precision .223 for my cmp service rifle competitions. Since the season doesnt start up till about march I've got alot of time and components just sitting around. Main question is the "shelf life" of match ammo, mainly how long they can sit loaded in a box before they develop any ailments that might hinder their performance. Furthest range I shoot out to is 600 yards.

Ive heard varying times, like 8 weeks, 4 if its stored in a cold environment. Ive also heard about cold welding.
If anyone could share their experiences that would be great :)

Thanks!

40x trigger- which one?

I pulled the trigger from my 40x 22lr rifle to clean. While doing so lost a spring.
I am having a hard time replacing it so I am going to at least get a new trigger so I can continue shooting the rifle.

What will fit it and which should I order?
Ideally I would get a 2 stage lite trigger. It is a target /range gun so I am not so concerned with durability out in the field vs quality trigger pull.
40x experts please advise.

2A ALERT: TENNESSEE. Antigun nonprofits hoping to push stricter gun laws for upcoming TN legislative session. BUCKEYES GET IT DONE with new pro2A laws

Another attack directed at the capital of Americana and the shooting sports culture.

The Tennessee legislative session starts next Tuesday on 01/14/2025 and several non-profit orgs, including the antigun group "Voices for a Safer Tennessee" are hoping to push their "concerns" to legislators to pass new antigun bills.

I have absolutely no, ZERO interest in reaching any "common ground" with leftists and their invasive pest ideology, nor even spending any effort to listen to what they have to squawk out of their yappers. Leftist policies have done nothing but render populations of hardworking people disarmed in their jurisdictions, livelihoods and businesses ruined, homes and businesses burned, and economies circling the drain. There is only ONE message that needs to be sent to those who want to further desecrate home and hearth. And that is:

Chronograph SD questions

I am still somewhat new to long range but expanding my knowledge and experience as much as I can. I just picked up a Garmin Xero chronograph with the intention of getting into reloading relatively soon. It’s an amazing unit and super easy to use, but I have a couple questions. What is the appropriate number of shots to measure for an average? What are considered good or bad SD and spread numbers?

I have measured a lot of groups across multiple rifles. Most of the Hornady and Norma factory ammo has come in with SD’s from 13-20. I recently measured 12 shots of 7PRC ammo from Choice Ammunition(Berger 168 VLDH). I was surprised to see SD at 45 with spread of 81. I then measured Hornady 175 ELDX Precision Hunter for 7 shots and got a 13.4 SD with 45 spread. The Choice groups well at 100 yards but I haven’t taken it past 400 yards yet.

What should I typically look for and consider good for factory ammo?

What is the right number of shots to base my averages off?

I appreciate any wisdom, best practices or advice that you can share. Thank you.
