Just so that you know implemented in the last week, there is a huge surcharge on shipping items with the dimension of a long gun box. I ship long guns in a box that are made for lights so I use the same box each time. At the beginning of Janurary, I shipped a box to Colorado and it weights within 3 ounces of the other box and it was 37.17 from Ohio. Same box same weight 31 miles closer was 57.55 today. I was told there was an increase in shipping cost and now a new 13.50 surcharge on boxes with that type of dimension. I don't think it is geared towards gun people just the length of the box. But beware if your shipping something do not use fed ex anymore.

As of today, I refuse to have anything shipped via fedex. I have a package of brass and some sinclair measuring tools from brownells that has been sitting literally a 30 minute drive from my house since Jan 30th. Tracking says it is loaded on the truck and will be delivered the next day. Every day for the last 7 days they say it was not delivered and will be delivered the next day. Their local depot has no phone # and no way to pick it up myself. I've called their main # and just get the runaround. If it doesn't show up today, I'm cancelling payment and order with brownells and reordering shipment through UPS.

Let Brownells know. They are really awesome about helping. Call up ask for a super , then ask for free overnight.....

How else are they going to subsidize large companies offering free overnight or 2 day shipping......

Exactly!!!

And you'll notice that "large company" that is the recipient of a huge amount of corporate welfare doesn't care a bit about box sizes, they ship things in way oversized, nearly empty boxes (with everything rattling around inside & a few blow up air packs only) that for the rest of us the dimensional weight would wind up a higher shipping cost than the item

FedEx and UPS both raised there rates significantly this year, USPS did too but not substantially.

My company ships about 10K packages per week 99% of which are Amazon prime and I had to quit using fedex due to the late deliveries and them effecting us even though they would show a guaranteed delivery date within 2 days of the promised date. Our late delivery rate with Fedex packages was averaging 50-60%. UPS misses some too but it’s less than 5% and we also ship 10x more packages with them than we were with Fedex. UPS has been the highest for lost packages recently though. It’s still very low at 2% but Fedex lost none (but we were also shipping far fewer with them) and USPS is like .5%.

USPS for us has been the absolute most reliable for years. A lot of people complain about them but they are undoubtedly the best at delivering on time and not losing packages. Our late delivery rate with them is under 1%. They also have the best rates if it can go flat rate or regional rate and their rates by weight aren’t too bad either as long as it isn’t express by weight.

I've got one showing out for delivery today via Fedex from Brownells, I'll be surprised if I see it this week. Fedex Ground/Home is the worst, they're independent contractors and they just don't care about any schedule.

Funny enough, we actually have the best track record with FedEx.
Mail will sometimes just never have the package in their system.

Now FedEx SmartPost or UPS SurePost or any of those other "services" that are hybrid carrier + mailman are the worst for things taking forever.
However sometimes due to the value of the item / cost of shipping there isn't much choice.

USPS is usually the quickest and cheapest in my experience. They are great until they aren’t. If you have an issue, which I’ve had a few times over the years, there is absolutely no recourse and getting a hold of someone that can actually help you is just about impossible.

Fed Ex is crap!
I sent an action to a gunsmith to build out the rifle. Since I already owned the action the gunsmith could send the finished rifle back to my home. They lost the package for 3 days, and then it miraculously showed on my front door. $6500 completed rifle and scope left at my front door, didn't even require a signature.

That is a fact.

Yea USPS shamelessly stole $100 from me last year. Their system somehow assigned the same barcode to two packages. One was my International express package. This was the second time this had happened. This time it made it to outgoing US customs and got bumped back because of the barcode error. At first they tried to blame customs but later admitted it was a glitch in thier system. Obviously since the first the package never even made it to customs. They refused my request for a refund......

If you call the 800 number to get service it’s like pulling teeth after you wait an hour. There’s not a single fuck to be given at the corporate office.

I highly suggest setting up a stamps.com account. Even if it’s just for shipping personally stuff it’s still worth it and it really doesn’t cost anything. You also get about a 10% discount on postage. Stamps has their own support team that handles issues and you also file claims and stuff right on their site.

Another huge piece of advice, if it has a value over $200 do signature required. It seems like $200 is the threshold where they give a hard time on claims for lost packages. When you require signature they have no way to argue if the carrier left it and someone stole the package because it never should have been left. I’ve never had a claim denied when signature was required and the level of fraud on the customer end is also significantly reduced... you’d still be surprised what people will try though to get free shit or just not have to pay return shipping for unwanted items.

When all else fails, build a relationship with your local post office. I know the post masters for both of my locations and even have my local ones personal cell phone number. Even if you don’t know the post master find a customer service rep at your local post office that gives a fuck (seems about half of them do) and befriend them. Just them remembering you helps tremendously on what they’re willing to help you with because they have far more abilities that the 800 reps even if you somehow got one that cared about your problems. I’ve had postage refunded in cash at my local post office for express mail packages that missed their guaranteed time that I purchased labels for through amazon. They can do a lot at a local post office if you find someone willing to help you.

I hate FedEx. My wife bought a $2500 Bowflex stair stepper/elliptical thingy that'll get used as a coat rack soon. Anyways...

I was off Friday and just happened to look out the window to see the FedEx truck show up. It went to grab a jacket and boots so I could help the guy out and by the time I got outside, dickhead was flipping one of the boxes end over end! I flipped out mutherfucking him, which I rarely do to workers. As soon as he sees me, he just stops and walks away. I said, "hey, aren't you going to get it on the porch?" He replies back with, "oh, I thought you could take care of it". Then I mutherfucked him some more and he helped me get it on the porch covered in slush, salt and grime. I called FedEx main to bitch, which I also rarely do. Guess what...the fucking thing doesn't work! The computer won't turn on. I'm in the middle of a dispute now.

Which reminds me, I gotta call FedEx back.

What's your address? Asking for a friend. j/k

I'd rather have to camp out by my mailbox than have something left unattended at my doorway these days.

Here in Laramie I have never met a postmaster so despised by everyone. Even Laramie PD doesn't like him. He takes care of me because I raise holy hell with his superiors. Last time I was at the post I had a package that would not fit into the drop bin, so I headed for the line. Well he must have seen me on a camara because he immediately came out from the back and called me up from the back of the line. It was bizarre. He barely spoke to me and wouldn’t make eye contact. I couldn’t figure out if he was trying to gain favor with me or get me beat up by the folks in line. ?

Haha I owned an older model used for the same purpose... works well with the baby playpen/hamper.
Maxtrainer? I have the 5 and it has help me immeasurably. I was in a lot of pain when I bought it . Piece of crap really. I’ve already had to fix a couple things and the design sucks but it actually works really well. One such repair :

Nope, they give zero fucks. Almost lost a fucking EoTech EXPS with a G 33 magnifier in the USPS system. Thank God I intercepted it at the local Post Office or it would have been on my porch for a damn month, or a few days till somebody decided to steal it.

all the USPS flat-rate box shipping went up in price a couple weeks ago also .
Up about .70 cent on small and medium flat-rate-box, and about a $-1 .00 increase on large flat-rate boxing .

The USPS is public subsidized with your tax dollar . I think I hear ?? it like 4 billion in red last year . But it is actually one of the Constitutional original things our Federal Gov. is to do for for us, ratified back in 1788 and controlled by presidential appointment by the Postmaster General . It is NOT in the list of the other 400 things there Not suppose to be regulating and charging, taxing us for .
.

This is why Amazon is getting into logistics

Amazon is one of the big companies, I was referring to. They had a plan from day one to use an unsustainable business model to gain vast market share. Then use that market share to exploit shipping companies like the Postal Service. Then when they had run shipping companies into the ground they would have built their own shipping network to compete with those wounded enterprises while raising prices on their customers having cornered the market.

Trump has railed on how they are exploiting taxpayer subsidized USPS. I have a map from when I moved to Wyoming showing priority mail times. Soon after, USPS took over most Amazon Prime shipments that UPS had been doing. That same map after they took that contract changed, adding at least a day to most Priority mail shipments for us "commoners". Priority mail became basically over 1lb first class....

Yea USPS lost posted a 3.9 Billion dollar loss last year: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/p...-expenses-outpaces-rise-in-revenue-2018-11-14

It's called "dimensional weight" and both UPS/FedEx do it. My shipping quote from FedEx includes a base rate, some charges, and a $13.5 surcharge for the dimensions of a rifle box.

UPS and Fed Ex both are raising prices for long boxes. Our company ships fishing rods and anything over 7' is supposed to cost $90-125 depending on the length and location. This will screw somebody, either the dealer or the consumer because the savings will be passed onto somebody. Those costs are based on our discounted rates due to the volume of shipping we do. I have no idea what an individual will have to pay.

Ship in a smaller box with action and stock separated. Smaller, cheaper and safer...doesn't look like a gun and harder to break.

They are looking into to buying FedEx.....

Like when they “bought into” the Washington Post?

Anyone who is not concerned about the richest man in the world owning the largest e-commerce retailer, who has 600 million dollar deal with the CIA to provide cloud services and owns a major Washington DC newspaper of record, is insane. Now he wants to dominate shipping? ?

I feel the need to come to FedEx's defense. My company ships 100 to 300 large heavy oversize packages a month. Knock on wood we don't have a problem with loss packages or damages. We use to insure everything because the average cost of one of the items is 2k. Over the years we have gone to no insurance becase the cost is way greater than any of our losses. That being said when I ship one of my "toys" it is insured with a signature required option.

My problem with USPS is the fact they have a meltdown if you tell them its a gun. And guess what they get my tax dollars. That pisses me off.

Service satisfaction must be highly geographic evidently. Around here the USPS is fucking balls. That's probably an understatement unfortunately.

USPS, if it makes it, usually by noon. Again, that's if it makes it on the day their shitty tracking says it will, or at all.

FedEx, always on time and delivers 90 percent of the time around 10 AM to 2 PM.

UPS, never before 3 PM and 90 percent of the time after 7 PM. Typically with boot prints on the box.

I will go as far as to try to purchase things from vendors that don't ship via USPS if I can, within reason.

USPS and UPS 2nd day air are the most consistent for me. Amazon has a warehouse in my area and delivers...they fucking suck.

That being said when I ship one of my "toys" it is insured with a signature required option.

Not sure about how it goes with fedex but anything insured over $1000 w/ UPS gets treated specially and has a chain of custody record. I have insured things I care about that were never worth $1000 (and would never get paid that much on claim) for that reason. They also already get a signature but are more than happy to double charge you if you choose signature delivery. Also two labels on anything of real importance. Harder for someone working there to slap a new label on it covering just the one...

I’ve had lots of issues with FedEx. Every time I call the 1800 number. File a complaint. The FedEx contractor gets charged several hundred dollars on each complaint that is valid.

I had FedEx tie a rangefinder to my mailbox that is 1/4 mile from my gate along with numerous other screw ups.

Call and file the complaint.

My son in law is a fedex contractor driver in Maine (works for the contractor). The guy has to be one of the most loved fed ex drivers I have ever seen. He treats every package like it is his. A couple of winters back he rescued a old guy hanging from a roof whose ladder had slipped out.....It was a damn good thing he was on schedule.
