My first Custom, how bad did I screw up?

This has been an idea and project for the better part of 3 years. I've wanted to build a 300WM for the past 3 years and every time I get some parts together, I sell them off and go in another direction. I finally said fuck it and went balls out.

I want to give a special thanks to Jon Beanland for his awesome work and great customer service and Kyle at XLR for being extremely accommodating and both of them for their great communication.

Specs are as follows:

300WM
Surgeon 1086
Obermyer 1:10 Fluted and finished at 22"
XLR Industries Carbon Chassis
CG Jackson trigger
Action was Ion bonded and then Jon cerakoted the action and barrel sniper grey

Oh yeah you screwd up bad!!!!!!! Now you can't blame misses on your equipment. Always need to have a scape goat. LOL NIce rig bro. Enjoy
 
You did a fantastic job, that is a beautiful rifle. You might have just found your new calling.
 
The only thing screwed up with that is that you received your Surgeon before me. It's the missing link to my build right now. Seriously though, bad to the bone. You did yourself proud!
Question what is Ion bonding?
 
Thanks guys. I ordered the barrel sight unseen and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the flutes. The can is a surefire 762SS and Ion bond is a metal treatment process similar to melonite but it is applied at a much lower temp
 
If it shoots, then your journey to the dark side will be complete (imagine Darth Vader's breathing here). Very nice!
 
ill find out this weekend. I'm going to stuff some 208s over some RL22 and see what we can whip up. True test will be to see how it shoots using some crap ammo I have laying around which will be used to foul the barrel.
 
That barrel is nuts!! You you go deep you bottom out man lol!!! Seriously gorgeous rifle. When will you get a chance to shoot it?

No.

Ion bond is a plasma vapor deposition (PVD) coating. They take some googe, create a plasma with it, and it basically condenses on the part.

Melonite/SBN/Ferritic Nitrocarburizing is a heat treatment process, that leaves a matte black finish as a byproduct. It is not a coating, but a heat treatment.

I'm not big on chassis-rifles, but that is a fine looking specimen you've got there. Very nice. If it shoots half as nice as it looks, you'll have a real winner on your hands. Nicely done.
 
How bad did you screw up? I suppose that all depends. Are your married? If so you better hope your wife likes rifles better than jewelry.

Sexy rifle, hope you get to keep it in the divorce. It would be a shame to loose the mistress to.
 
Wow, I can't believe how badly you screwed up. You definitely wouldn't anyone seeing you shoot that at a range. So I'll do you a solid and take it off your hands and save you some embarrassment. ;-) Seriously, a great looking rifle and as others have said, that barrel is a knockout. I'm trying to cobble together a custom rifle and now you've put bad thoughts into my head. You're evil. ;-)
 
You went balls out for sure. Now give me a few minutes alone with her, and I'll go balls deep. How does it shoot!?

I hope you're putting 308's over the RL-22, or you will have screwed up....

My thoughts exactly lol, most pics I see on here have the rifle on the kitchen counter or table, this one is on the garage floor- I'm assuming the two ladies haven't met
 
I'm just now wondering why I didn't order the XLR Carbon chassis instead of the Tactical Evolution :( ... Guess that means I need to build another rifle once the current project is complete!
 
I haven't been worked up about a bolt gun in a while.....until now! I've lost sleep because of this rifle, VERY NICE!

Exactly what I was thinking. That is a damn fine looking rifle!
 
Like a previous poster said, I am not a chasis type rifle guy, but that gun may change my mind. That is one SICK freaking rifle!!!!
Hope it shoots....
 
It looks like CRAP!! I'll trade you a used jennings 9mm. It doent shoot minute of planet, and jams every other shot.
 
thanks again guys. I lucked out that my ideas actually came together and made a gun that didn't suck. Jon was a pleasure to work with and an outstanding individual. Kyle at XLR was equally as pleasurable to worth with. One company I forgot to mention was surgeon, I bought the action off the hide and it had the wrong bolt face and when I bought it there was some surface rust on it. I called surgeon up and explained the situation and fully expected to pay for them to swap the bolt out but they took care of it for me and I didn't even have to ask.
