They also had to revise their report when some highschool teacher proved out that the building did fall at freefall speeds, when their first report refuted it, but he was able to easily disprove it. So a government agency, responsible for "expert" study and analysis, taking months to issue a report, immediately got shot down and had to revise their work...yeah, trustworthy expertise there...
And the Popular Mechanics article about the thing is just a rehash of the NIST assessment, which is practically a parody of physics and engineering principles. This episode should be a litmus test for any structural engineer, where if they actually agree to any of these explanations, should immediately be exiled from the profession.
