Horse Power, Track Shit, Torque, Cubic Inches, Liters, Run What Ya Brung, Auto or Cycle

Mark I Factory 5 Cobra, 650HP stroked 427 (not enough deck height hence the intake), naturally aspirated Quick Fuel 750, 525hp to the wheels on the dyno, 1,840lbs on a frame and fiberglass body, Mickey Thompson street slicks (do not use in rain!!!). I'm not saying it can beat all your high dollar, massive horsepower hot rods, but for something that is street legal and could even be an every-day-driver (as long as the weather is ok), this is a very quick car. No power steering, but it sticks to the road and handles like a fighter jet. It's on rails around corners. Of course, when you hit about 100mph if feels like about 300mph. It's quick, not fast. For street fun this one is hard to beat. As fun as riding motorcycles.

Beautiful car. I've wanted to build one of these for a long time but don't have the time.

My FIL built it to cart stage with a Foxbody 5.0 with 235Hp, and I pulled that and put the 427 in it and finished it. It's a 4 wheel motorcycle.

You can buy them built for about double what they cost to build. time = money

You can buy them cheap from folks who gave up on them or did a shit job and the “rebuild.” And I think FFR has an option for a “built” car that you just put an engine in.

You are going to stare at the lawn from the wrong side for an eternity.

Buy the Cobra!

Here's what it looked like carted...

What's the time around Gingerman - in the dry?

In the "long" config, 1:40 on 200TW street tires (Hankook RS3). There's maybe another 2-3 seconds in it with a better driver in perfect conditions.

I had a mint 96 caprice wagon with the LT1. I miss that car. Should have kept it. Only 40k miles.

I owned a few B-body wagons throughout the years, but never one that was truly nice. There was an opportunity to buy a clean 1A2 wagon several years ago, and I regret passing up that deal.

I want to build it from the beginning. I see too much cobbled up shit on a daily basis that I want to know what I have. Also, the build would be just as much fun as driving it.

I get what you are saying though and you're absolutely right. That's why I'm happy that my dad finally bought an older truck even if it was way more work than he realized. He's 74 and has always wanted one.

My brothers boss had a 94 caprice classic with a blown 502. It was nicknamed the “road rocket”. All leather, all power, probably weighed 6k. Full air ride made it float smooth as silk down the road at ungodly speeds. I’ll see if I can find a pic somewhere

I’ve always been a car nut, I bought this Z new off the showroom floor. I had no intention of doing all this but I got on a Z car forum and the rest is history. Did the work myself, to many part to list. Spent about 35k, add a vortex super charger, aquamist system (spraying water/methane) headers, exhaust and on and on. Conservative tune was turning 450 hp at the rear wheels. Super fun car, wish I still had it!

One of the best motors ever made! I love the howl of a Nissan 6!

There's a AMC Pacer sitting on a used car lot. The owner of the car lot owns the car and keeps it well maintained. A friend asked him if he would rent it for his daughters prom. He said no, that he was worried that the car might get in an accident.

It’s long, but not one you have to watch. Good background listen.

It’s really well-done as a documentary and goes over the company’s history in great detail with the car models as an integral part.

And @lowlight … one of my “car regrets” was not buying a Ramcharger when I got out of college in ‘88. There was a big block 87 leftover ramcharger on the Dodge dealer lot right by the school and the “college grad” first car discount was huge. Still the best of the big boy SUV’s before they were called that. Sorry Bronco and Blazer guys.

Windsor-based 427, or FE?

You think that this is fun and games? This is some serious shit. Big boys and their toys ain't no game son.

Cool ride.
I had a friend do that and his foot slipped off the clutch. Drove his T bucket through the garage.
Not sure who you are calling son? My car has a 727 manual VB automatic, no clutch.

I driven some seriously fast cars over many years and Indy testing car at Rt 66, so back to the show...

Built many different things over the years, cars & bikes.

Latest semi "finished" is my sons Lexus IS200/300 with a built 2JZ, V160 manual with a quad plate OS Giken clutch.
Currently on the run in tune making 608RWHP on gate pressure (20psi) with a 7000rpm limit & very little timing. (Garrett T04z for run-in duties)
Its built for 9000/9500rpm & 40-50+psi of boost.

There nothing that beats the sound of big v8 with a big cam to add effect. Was going to restore an older America v8 car but thought of dealing with rusted cars again was a major deal breaker, looked at doing a c5 but being a older gray hair it seemed to cliché. Went the route of the flat brimmers and acquired 2016 STI which was fun to build (expensive as hell) but at the end day is blast to drive. Originally was setup for doing tracking but covid19 put an end to that and by time everything opened up lost interest. Enjoyed the time working on it, the build was as much fun as driving it. Now my summer driver that never gets old to drive. Next project working on a newly acquired 4runner...

Actually 39 seconds , first time I broke a 40 using high test.
In the early 80's our local track was trying to figure out how to stay in business with a low car count after another track opened up across town. Their decision was to have a single bracket race class. 8-second cars had to race 15-second cars, which was absolutely horrible for the racers. We didn't like that, but still wanted to come out and support the track.

Our solution was that we all decided to race our tow rigs.... and we wanted it to be a heads-up race. No more sitting on the line waiting 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 seconds while the other guy rolled down to half-track before you went. So everyone dialed in at 21.50 and sandbagged like crazy of course. 21.50 meant you launched fairly aggressively, then hit the resume button on your cruise control - set at 55mph. It was like watching paint dry for the spectators. The only "action" was at the far end where people were hitting the brakes or speeding up - trying to run right on that 21.50 dial.

Luckily for us - just like having a Democrap Carter in office, the misery-index economy, 15% mortgage rates, and low car count - we got past it and got back to our regularly scheduled race programs. Life was good again!

Ours would do a twice a year "high school drags". It was on the popular radio station at the time KY102....anyone in the KC area that is over 50 remembers this. The place would be just insane with kids out there. So popular that started doing two a year.

The folk that owned it finally wanted to retire and wanted to sell, KC ran in with an insane offer and bought the track only to run a track hoe down the track and dig up everything.....it was going to be a park.....but wait not so fast says the EPA, There is too much nasty here for the little kiddies to play, you can't do that. So it sat empty with concrete to keep people out.

They finally put in a jungle gym.....or should I say Jungle Jim :) Jungle Pam....mmm. And NO ONE goes there.

Kansas City is real good about that.

My dad knew all them in passing back in the day, Linda Vaughn too

Allegedly Prudhomme tried to kick his ass one weekend....probably deserved it.

I had a Torino Cobra back before 2000, mine was yellow with the black stripes on the hood, had the shaker hood and louvers on the back glass, I want to say they are ford louvers, and he honey comb back tail lights. Great car, and really the only one I wish I still had. Sold it to go road racing.
