Just wanted to show the DIY guys how simple it is to re-paint or paint your stock with 40 bucks worth of stuff from Lowe’s.
I know a ton of you guys do this in your sleep, but thought some newbs might see how easy it is to do one of these without spending 175 bucks.

Mocked everything up, then sanded down the single color stock with 320 grit. Primed any areas that needed a bit of body work.

Painted the stock flat black. Bought some camo paint and cheap sponges from Lowe’s. Bought some rattle can clear in matte finish.

Sprayed the edge of the sponge in varying colors. Cleared. Took literally 40 minutes.

Looks good, I have done a couple of them, not as hard as a thought.

Looks good. I normally start with a light color for the base. My terrain is prairie/ high desert

Cross posted in the AI thread. I may go back and add a little more color to it.

I don’t own this one any longer, but I think it turned out pretty good with Krylon and sea sponge

I nicknamed it Manners GI Joe

A quality automotive matte clear dries hard as a rock and really makes the paint job last.
Does it help or work on steel too? I'd imagine so if it's automotive. When I paint barrels, they always wear off when the barrel leans on the holder in the safe. Rather not cerakote.

I would imagine it sticks to most anything. If you've ever sprayed clear it can be tricky. Many lights coats is going to get you the best finish. The temptation is to hose it on because it looks great and that's where you get runs and orange peel in the final product.

Did one on my cross that turned out okay. Wish my OD paint was a little darker though.
