The Fix from Q

What’s the overall length in the p mags if I remember it’s only 3.2? Would like to be able to load closer the the lands and still feed
Any ideas?

i don’t know why but mine only likes 1 of my 3 kac mags. It’s super annoying. It likes lancers/pmags, I actually just ordered one of the s/w mags?… lol. We’ll see how that goes… but it’s like the next mag down from a kac that’s available and aluminum.

Took the new fix 308 to the range today fead like a dream. I changed out the brake to a pva jet blast that really tamed the recoil! The recoil
Pad really needs some love I’ll either do the limbsaver mod or pick up a big butt. I only had factory ammo and a few old reloads to try today. Hornady precision hunter was right around .6 and Berger 150 hunter slightly better at .5 looks like it’s going to be a shooter. Overall really happy I picked one up it’s going to be a blast to hunt with. I’ll start putting together a few loads this week thinking light and fast like Barnes 130 and 150 ttsx and Iv got a bunch of 150 grain nosler ballistic tips.

Just received some Norma 6mm Creedmoor Golden Target Match with 107's. Hopefully they feed better than the Berger VLD 105's, Hornady does. If not I may have to talk to Q and see if the new 6.5 extension will work.

Just had a quick look at this last page.
You're all still talking about fixes for "The Fix".
I'm still wondering what it was that "Q" actually fixed.
Haha..............Hilarious.

Unless he was apart of the super elusive group who got the pork chop haha 😂 I think it’s still either 308/6.5. Curious because I think it’s totally doable to take an elk, but we all know the controversy around that 🤦🏻‍♂️🙄 either way, nice elk! Love it.

Lol you bois put the conspiracy hats away. It's a 308. I've had it since 2018, serial # < 20 and matching serial # on the trash panda. I shot this guy at 50 yds. I put the mohican sneak on him and flipped him end over end. 🤷‍♂️

Blue accents is most likely a 308 rifle.

6.5 Creedmoor and 308 are both perfectly acceptable for taking elk sized game and larger, there's no controversy about it. There's people successfully taking elk and moose with 223's and 77gr TMK's.

BTW, she was 13 then, using a 16" 308. One shot dropped each animal dead. No controversy here, just marksmanship and a decent bullet.

And to you! Just saw your follow on post. 50 yards is strong work! My daughter's were further, but still within very acceptable hunting range. We did manage to stalk to within 25 yards of 2 bachelor bulls, but she could not take the required offhand shot with her strength at that time.

It might be a stupid idea, or someone might have already asked, but with all the feeding issues and the unobtainable nature of the Q barrel extensions, has anyone thought of machining their own barrel extension?

It seems like the feed ramps could be easily corrected and it would make running different barrels much more of a reality.

I recently emailed Q about possibly getting an extra barrel extension for a heavy barrel build, and they told me they have supply issues even getting them for their normal production. Seems silly these haven’t been sold aftermarket by now. 🤷‍♂️

It’s a niche product. If it was mainstream, somebody probably would have done it already.

Ahh "The Fix"
Ninety eight pages of things to fix, stretching back to 2017 &, still no actual "FIX" of "The Fix"
Hilarious.

Very true. Not many out in the wild. And probably even fewer who care to screw with it that much.

Did Q ever come out with a 6.5 extension or is that one still “in the works” too?

I never read ‘the fix’ as a proposed cure for anything. Rather, I’ve always taken ‘the fix’ to be an allusion to some addictive substance. As in, “I need to get my fix…”

You may well be on to something although, It looks to me as though "Q" have followed the example of Bureaucrats across the ages whereby, when a Bureaucrat needs to look as though they are actually doing something & they write a white paper explaining the intended "Fix" of the problem, it is well understood in Bureaucratic circles that you always dispense with the hard part, in the Title while, actually accomplishing nothing at all.
From what I can tell, "Q" have excelled with "The Fix"

For what it's worth, I have three different Fixes and they seem to feed fine so far.

Absolutely! Mine runs great as well with 6.5cm. I’d just like to see the extensions become a little more obtainable for us common folk.

I have a 6mm Proof 26” barrel coming in sometime next week, I’ll keep y’all posted on how the feeding is.

Mine are 308, 8.6BLK and 300BLK.
No 6.5 so far since I kinda want 6.5PRC and I do not think I can make that work in the Fix for the time being.

I’d kill to have my fix in 6.5PRC I believe the main constraint is the magazine. Sami spec has the PRC at an OAL of 2.955” (max) and I don’t think that will fit even in the metal mags I’m running.

It would be cool to try though. 🤔

Also, I just saw your account. Your YouTube video on the fix was one that pushed me over the edge to buy one. Great content man!

Is the 8.6 as incredible as they’ve made it out to be? I’m quite interested with the information available thus far.

Ok for the 6.5 convo coming back up....

My rifle spent almost a year back at Q waiting for a fix for feeding 6.5 that they said themselves they don't have a fix for until they design a new extension...

Which they said they were working on, but had no form of ETA

I was given a new receiver as well as an 8.6 barrel in its place

They did some beating around the bush and ignoring it in the beginning..., but I feel like in the end they did the best they could to make it right given where they are at with everything

I'll be curious to see how they change the geometry to accommodate pushing the 6.5 up more and if it's possible to get long pointy 6mm stuff to feed in any updated extension they put out.

A 6mm in a lite weight weight folding chassis was always the hope for this thing and I still hope they get it figured out

Fwiw the proof 6.5 barrel I have feeds night and day better than the original bartlein.
Does your proof have a shouldered extension, or the older jam nut style? They put a huge chamfer in the new barrels. Doesn't fix every troubles gun, but fixes most.

You didn't get a "Fix" for your Fix but, you seem content with the way they came good with the 8.6 barrel & new receiver which, is good to hear.
I just love this thread though, fucking priceless.
Can't stop giggling about fixing "The Fix"

I don't know about content, but I feel like they are doing the best they can based on the design limitation of the extension.
If you read backwards in this thread I was very vocal calling BS to people saying it fed fine in theirs

I think the entire thing was based around 308 which it feeds correctly into the chamber.
The 6.5 is what the masses want so they spun a barrel up for it... didn't work well but works good enough that they get by with it

The bandaid for the feeding is the enlarged chamfer into the chamber which allows the bullets point to ride up and get directed into the chamber.
I'm not a fan of this as I don't believe it's actually proper feeding, but it will help push stuff over into the chamber. I'm not sure you could get away with something like 6mm or 22cm though.... and that is unfortunate because I believe that is where this rifle would shine. I'd be interested to see anyone who has gotten a 22cm to feed in this thing though

I believe the rifle was a step outside of the normal which is going to have some growing pains / design issues. So it's part of the process and i think most understand that.

But make no mistake I'm not happy I bought a factory package that didn't feed correctly, and I'm not happy about being without such an expensive rifle for almost a year...
But,
I have to give them credit for being straight forward in the end and giving me options to try and reconcile the issue and work around my distaste for the chamfer bandaid

Now I'll try this 8.6 out and see if it feeds more to my liking.
I believe the larger bullet will ride higher which should put it directly into the chamber.
I just think 6.5 is the limit where things are riding too low. As the bullet falls too deep into the bolt lug cut out when approaching the chamber.
I'm also still wondering how a 7-08 might feed... wonder if it might be just large enough to ride a little higher into the chamber.

Yeah, I suppose they'll get the bugs ironed out eventually but, "The Fix" is an awfully expensive rifle for the number of issues & limitations the customer must accept when compared to the many competing light weight custom rifles which can be had without the bullshit that goes with the "The Fix"
As it appears, some guys just gotta have the latest & greatest whether it works or not or, whether it's really worth the asking price or not.
Anyhow, each to his own I suppose.

8.6 is a very good choice if you want cartridge that does both subsonic and supersonic stuff well. If you do not plan to shoot subs with it, larger and faster rounds are obviously more forgiving in terms of trajectory. However, if you are looking to go compact, even with supersonics, there is nothing quite like the 8.6 out there.

For my purposes, once I get a suppressor for it, it will essentially entirely replace both 300 Blackout and 308Win for me from a hunting standpoint (which makes me wonder what I should do with my Mini-Fix. If I can convince them to make an appropriate bolt, it will make for a one hell of a kids hunting rifle in 6.5Grendel).

I shot a cow elk with the 8.6 last month at a bit over 300 yards, so it did the job and it is a fairly mildly recoiling round which I like.

The lethality seems to be there. It is the most accurate subsonic round I have tried to date and accurate enough in its supersonic guise.

Until ATF figures out all the pistol brace bullshit, I am using it with a 16" barrel, which is where another advantage of the 8.6 comes in: it plays really well with short barrels and, on balance, 12" barrel would be ideal.

I did something of an after action livestream when I got back home from the elk hunt: https://darklordofoptics.locals.com/post/3099557/updates-8-6-blackout-spartan-precision-whats-next

If you are trying to go light and compact, 8.6 really has a lot to recommend itself.

I do not think it replaces my 300WSM. I do not think it replaces 6.5PRC, 7PRC, 300PRC etc. Whenever a new cartridge is introduced, there is always a lot of hype. Sometimes it is just hype with nothing behind it. With 8.6, there is something behind it. That crazy twist rate does do something.

I need to do a little more testing, but I suspect aside from lethality at low speeds, it also does something to the bullet's BC, but I need to spend more time with that. I am seeing a slight bit less drop that ballistic calculators predict, but confirming that would require more experimentation. I could be making an error somewhere.
