Forgive my shock. I had never heard her mention the cost before. Last time I was in a barber shop, it cost me about five bucks, tip included.

Last time I was in the barber shop was the day before all such businesses were shut down for coof.

The school superintendent of all people announced this shut down.

Cost was twenty five bucks for a shaved GI cut.

The stores went bare of Wahl clippers but since I bought a set I have been cutting my own hair since.

This new world sucks.

I learned long ago that is was best just to be quite about what a certain woman spent at the beauty shop. It was just wasted breath on my part.

I haven't been in a barbershop since before covid as our little town's one remaining barber suddenly became sick and died. He was good guy, gave an excellent cut for a reasonable price, and I miss him. Our one grand daughter, a beautician, stepped in and started cutting my hair and won't accept a cent from grandpa. It's the same deal with grandma's hair and nails. We buy her and her three daughters things to get even on the no pay thing and even slip the kids a few bucks now and then.

195 proof from a fuel alcohol still, that someone forgot to stir the mash before we started distilling. Looked as yellow as whiskey, tasted like a tire fire. Guzzled about 1/3 a pint mixed in water on a dare (the other 2/3rds was supposed to be for the other two guys but they chickened out after my reaction to drinking it). I was sick for two days. I don't remember anything from about 7pm to about 3am when I was dry heaving outside, freezing my butt off. Apparently I climbed onto the roof of our bunkhouse at one point and sang to the world. I asked how I got down because getting up there was pretty precarious, they said they though I must have fallen off. Never again.

Wife came home Friday afternoon in a very happy mood. I asked whats up and she tells me that after two years she finally found someone that cut her hair exactly how she wants. And not only that, but she charged only $60 compared to the $100 plus she had been paying. When the %$&* did haircuts get so expensive?
Only $100? I shave my own head and sell scrap Aluminum so my wife can get her hair done.

Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick... People pay $50 for a haircut? My barber charges $17... and you get a nice shoulder rub at the end... With tip... $20 out the door for a tier-one flat-top!

$50... I didn't know I was in the presence of royalty. You guys probably buy special trashbags for your bathroom... instead of using recycled grocery bags.

Dang!!!

A pretty little 20 something cuts mine. She does excellent work, takes a lot of care. Entertains me talking about how “kids these days” are lazy and shiftless…she is literally my favorite haircutter of all time and all for the princely sum of $10. I always leave an extra $10 tip.

Yep. All my haircuts are self inflicted as well.

Mine are as well. My story is similar to pmclaine’s. Got my last fancy schmancy cut on the afternoon that our wise, benevolent overlord shut CO down. A month or so after that I bought a set of Oster clippers and a few different blades. So far, amortized over 3 years and being cut every other week, my price per haircut so far is about $4

I could get a good flat top on base and the surrounding shops. I bought a set of clippers for the times I didn't have a chance to get to the barber shop. When I got out I found an old guy that was great and not much more than the base barber shop. He retired two years later and I dug out the clippers and have been doing my own since. A few years ago I stopped at a shop in a nearby town. Shitty flat top and then he put some kind of vibration thing on his hand and started rubbing my shoulder. I stood up and said... That'll be enough of that. Handed him twenty and walked. A smack in the back of the head and a "Get out of my chair" would have been fine.

I miss haircuts in east Asia.

Not just trashbags, but the scented ones. My wife does not scrimp on the "little" things.
