The reason employees suck and there’s a shortage of them

Socialism incentivizes people to be lazy and do their LEAST. And it is the chief way in which a socialist state coerces loyalty from the population, by having them rely on the payouts. No different from drug dealers. Introduce a group of people to a product which promises an orgasmic high. Get them hooked on it. Now they will constantly need a supplier to continue getting their high. And who will these people be loyal to from then on? The dealers have the answer to that question...

Well, a lot of good people are leaving the workforce because companies don’t want to pay their good people shit or reward them with some bonuses worth a crap on their ridiculous profit years. Chances are if you work hard, the best thing you gonna get is more work. I mean realistically most companies benefits today pale in comparison to what our parents had, yet I’d say work now is harder in a lot of cases, much more demanding, certainly a hell of a lot more competitive and so on. I mean this of course depends on what you are doing but yeah.

Then you also got companies doing stupid shit like bending over backwards trying to recruit new young blood and giving them the bank up front while the guy busting his ass for you for 20 years is scratching his head wondering why the fuck the new kid fresh out of school that really don’t know anything yet is making more than he is even after working for the company for 20’years. To be honest, it doesn’t pay to work hard anymore. Call it socialism, call it whatever you want but it sucks and I’m tired of hearing companies say they can’t find good help. There is good help out there but you got to pay for it and then when you snag them you got to work to keep them.

In fact, I got a friend of mine in a predicament right now. He has only been at this company about 4 years but basically his company hired some people that turned out not to be what they advertised. And now, I’m assuming to make bossman look good, bossman wants people like my buddy to teach them all the shit he knows that took him lots of hard work, money and time to figure out. Why the hell should he do that? What benefit is in it for him to teach them what he knows especially when we know some were hired in at a much higher rate than he makes? Why not hire someone that already has the skills? I told him I’d be looking for something else.

Oh snd I forgot to add, the job market is fucked up right now. We got very low skilled people making ridiculous money while the skilled labor ain’t really making what they are worth. I read somewhere the other day that house keeping in some of these places they are housing the illegals are making $20,000 a week! $20,000 fucking a week for cleaning hotels and shit! WTF? I’m sure every engineer out there building stuff is scratching their heads right now. I know we got good engineers only making like $150k, some of them barely even $90k. While the company may think that is a lot, it’s not. In fact it ain’t shit. My dad was making $100k after he got out of the Air Force back in the 80’s. $100k in the 80’s was actually something. $70-$100k today is like equivalent to $35k in the 80’s. That’s how much buying power of the dollar has dropped.

This sums up the company I work for rather well. Lazy ass people get by with sitting in an office or riding around the yard on a utility vehicle instead of doing their job. Can't use a laptop or multimeter, don't worry, we will either let someone else in the shop do it or call the dealer to come look at it.

They just hired a guy to drive a truck, paid for his cdl training, and started him out making more money than a lot of our current drivers that have experience. The best part is, they were dumb enough to post it on Facebook, then got mad when the office phones blew up🤣

Companies now have gone retarded. Dont even get me started on the woke bullshit. I don’t care what color you are, I’m gonna hire you based on your credentials and ability to do the job.

I've finally had enough with this company and I'm going to try somewhere else. I had shoulder surgery and took care of everything myself. I was told I couldn't come back until I was released with no restrictions since it wasn't work related. Then found out the guy on light duty for the past 3 months wasn't hurt at work either. Another couple people also had non work related injuries and got to work with restrictions. The best part is when my boss tried calling me on a Friday night to work that weekend on a mechanic's truck since the mechanic can't fix his own service truck. I didn't answer or call him back.

Good for you. I’m about to go hunting myself cause im tired of the BS!

Why the fuck would I pay $30 per hour to mow my lawn? I want my lawn mowed. I don’t want you pushing a mower around here all day. Tell me what you want to mow it. I’ll tell you if I think you’re smoking crack.

I fired our lawn guys years ago when I couldn’t get through to them that I didn’t want to be able to see the lawn’s root system when they were done.

I supply the zero turns gas. Etc. I have 12+ hours of grass to be mowed each week

How many acres do you mow?
Don’t know.

if it was a big flat area I’d get a 15-20’ finish mower for it.

But it’s not.

Looked at those zero turns with just the little fold down wings. $$$&$$&&$$$

Seems to be the best way to get a raise. I know every workplace has their own problems but I keep hoping I can find a decent place to work. Good luck on your job hunt.
I am not sure you work in the tech part of the world but it is an open secret in tech that the only way to get raises is to job hop like mad. Makes no sense to me but I'm not in the C-suite so perhaps I'm just too stupid to understand.

My yard is a little over an acre.
It takes about 2 hours to mow.
Where I live, no lawn service is mowing your “12 hour yard” for $30 an hour…
I’d be curious as to what a lawn service would charge for a “12 hour” yard. You might have to sell one of your $4000 scopes, huh? 😁

We just had another come to Jesus meeting.

Found out they're hiring apprentices for damn near journeyman rate yet telling us they can't afford us.

Funny thing, I'll be the 8th guy out of 15 to walk this year. Just taking my side gig full time.

That's why you have kids. And... That's why you see cars driving down the middle of the road out in the country. They learned to drive on a tractor.

I work on equipment and class 8 trucks and trailers. I hate job hopping due to the giant pain in the ass to move my boxes but I think my next investment is a hydraulic trailer so I can move my big box easily. I've always worked fleet but I'm pretty sure my next job is going to be at a dealer to get paid for training and certifications instead of paying for it myself and doing it for free.

This x1000.

Companies complain about being able to hire good staff (or any staff) yet do absolutely nothing to retain their existing staff that come with 10+ years of experiences and actually keep the place running.

I’m arguably over paid (at least for the amount of effort I put into my job) but there is no way I’d do most of the jobs out there on the job market. Even if it paid more than sitting at home, I’d rather have my on time that work for some wank middle manager who has their head up their arse, for a shit wag, pretending to care about a company that doesn’t give a shit about me.

I’m surprised the amount of people that do go to work bother, when you hear stories about how terrible their managers are and what shit they put up with on a daily basis, the unemployment rate should be nearer 30%.

No man is over paid....no man! No company has ever had success without at least one employee. Youre always underpaid. Are you making as much as the top dog? I bet you do more than he does on any given day.

Never say your over-paid!!!!! Never devalue yourself. I dont know what you do or what your paid, but you deserve better!

...or three bags worth of clippings in the middle of the street.

Some years ago, the guy the wife used for the restaurant did our yard. Bang up job every time. Haven't kept one more than about three mowings since. Finally went back to doing it myself.

$30 an hour to mow???

Fuck that...

My lawn takes ~2-2.5 man hours to mow and trim... thats with a big zero turn, but I have a lot of fence line plus around the house.

3 years ago when we moved in I was getting quotes for 100-125 to mow and trim. My buddy said now that would be ~$175-200 at least and thats if I find a company that has another lawn or two in my neighborhood, otherwise add another $25 if they are only coming out to do my lawn...

Glad I bought that $8000 Gravely zero turn 3 years ago.... btw that same machine today is $11k...

Aren't many retirees going back to work due to inflation?

My old man is 73 and still working because he has no hobbies and if he actually retired he would be dead in 6 months of sitting on the couch... He's on his 3rd retirement job since 2010. This one will pay upwards of 150k in RETENTION BONUS over 24 months(paid every 6 months) not to mention the yearly pay which is north of 100k plus full benefits, 401k, overtime, etc...

He "claims" this is it for him and he will do 24 months, get the retention bonus and then retire for good... I bet at the end of his 24 months if they are offering another 24 month retention bonus he will stay on...

He's not doing it because of inflation though, just pure boredom.

Excellent points! Don't forget the "wokeness" of the workplace. Remember that 50 year old white men are not welcome.

That's my brother, but not as old. His wife's retirement and investments are well above the median retirement income. His businesses bring in a pretty penny and he spends money like Scrooge. He'll never retire. On the day of my mom's funeral, he got up at 3AM to "get done what needed to be done," and went back to work after the services. Three years my junior, but I expect to outlive him.

People made more money by not working. In the process of personal gain, they were operating as a human.

As for not enough jobs, we have jobs many don't want. We pay well but most of the work is swinging a shovel. Sometimes crawling through an attic or under a house. Most americans are weaker than pussies because they simply won't do it, even if it meant starving.

But guys from south of the border will do it. They come from a country where everything is physical labor. They just get paid better in the states for the type of work.

So, to those crying about not enough work, put on your grown-up pants and work. I have several shovels and can put your (in general) name on it, if you like. We also provide gloves. A commercial size ice maker for your cooler. All you have to do is break a sweat and get a little dirty.

Stop by my shop next time your in Nevada and I'll show you 2 over paid guys and an over paid woman!!

I'm 75 on my third maybe fourth retirement job, I enjoy this this one for most part but the stupidity of lazy new hires
is a constant, no shows, etc. AND I will not hesitate to let you know snowflake, from whatever generation you identify.

I have 4 zero turns and gas.

$30 is pay for the operator

Used to pay $20. Couldn’t get reliable people and my truck drivers or mechanics/equipment operators would end up mowing. So bumped the pay to $30
So my guys can stay on their more important work.

Still can’t get reliable mower operators

I see some of the same attitudes on ships. 2 or 3 hard charges and the slacker who takes an hour to sweep the shop.

Mow the lawn or go to the range? Depending on travel I might be home one weekend a month.

I used to pay high school kids $30 $35 to do the yard every two weeks, my mower and gas. The last high schooler cut it once and never showed up again. We have a retiree who knocked on the door a few years ago. $40, he rides his mower of a trailer, edges around the deck and fence if it needs it.

Less travel now, but I don't want to cut off his beer money.

What do you think pay should be for a mower operator. ?
My opinion, and your opinion, as to what a mower operator should make is irrelevant. It’s what you actually have to pay at this point in time….In relation to where you live….
What is the going rate for a lawn service, where you live? Is it 60, 80, $100 an hour, or more?…
