Not always.
Chevy early aluminum V8s had a coated aluminum bore.
I don't recall what the coating was called right now (something lame sounding, I remember that much) and it didn't last worth a shit.....but they used it that way for like 20 years.
Just googled...
Nikasil
It's ceramic spray in shit.
like cerakote

Its nickel plating. Works good on two cycle engines.
uh uh

Nickle - Silicon
Nikasil is short for nickel silicon carbide. Silicon carbide is a very hard ceramic (much harder than steel) that can be dissolved in nickel. The nickel silicon carbide solution can then be electroplated onto the aluminium cylinder bore. After the cylinders are plated, the Nikasil bores are diamond honed to a plateau finish. Pistons will need to be fitted with Nikasil compatible piston rings as chrome rings commonly used with cast iron bores are not compatible.

It doesn’t sound tougher than my SDS max corded Hilti rotohammer. And it looks way heavier.

And COMICALLY oversized too. Almost like those anime swords and other weapons of ludicrous dimensions that are in those sci fi kids cartoons. Imagine a contractor company having to drive around an additional specialized charging/storage rack to have a whole arsenal of these things to be rotated around throughout a single work shift and on top of that, get performance that is anemic at best. Hell nah dawg...

I'm throwing the BULLSHIT flag on 10,000 HP
Shows you don’t know much about top fuel engines. They have run as high as 11,000hp peak and start around 7000.

heres a random almost 10 year old dyno run from Schumacher

it’s for a dragster, but still top fuel and possible.

I also know there is a thin line where hydrodynamics end and aerodynamics begin. I have crossed the line before.

You could buy a 1650+ horse power street engine from Sonny's that runs on pump gas and doesn't have an air pump for a modest $96K. Granted it's 940 cubic inches. Sonny's sells a 903 inch pro mod engine that makes 2900+ horse power on race gas with laughing gas, but without an air pump. This could make 10K horse power with a screw pump and running on 97% nitro.

Nikasil is used in 2 stroke motocross cylinders. It works well in that application.

Top Fuel hydros are limited to 500Ci, but run at least a minimum of just under 70% Nitro I believe is the rule. Bet it’s burning 8-11 gallons of fuel in 1000’. Probably 20-22 with warmup.
