It’s pretty crazy this was still going on in the 60s. That one guy got what you’d call “a million dollar wound” but I think in this case all he got was a sore ass.

Yooo...... That footage would have fit right in to the introduction chapter of Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey, if it had been made into a chapter-based TV series instead of a single film. Depicting how Moon Watcher's descendants started evolving after the earlier man-apes had encountered the Monolith.

Back in the 70's I was involved in the setting up of the PNG Defence Force Air Element. Talking to one of the trainees one day I asked him how they decided who would be aircrew or ground crew.

His answer was that they shook the trees, those that fell out became ground crew, the ones who held on became aircrew.

In those days the pidgin english term for helicopter was "Mixmaster in sky belongum Jesus Christ fly upside down".
