You do realize he said he’s almost 70, correct? So maybe tone down the attitude a little and respect the fact that a man that is well onto the twilight of his life is trying to stay healthy. You and your Olympic weights can go pound sand. I don’t life weights ever, but I can still carry a pack and bow all over the mountains of Idaho at the ripe age of 45. Weights aren’t needed. Exercise and healthy eating is enough to stay healthy. Then go pick up a barbell and stop being a whiny little bitch and giving me excuses I don't to hear.![]()
Never tried Olympic weightlifting? Perfect. Then you have absolutely no bad habits to break. We may begin. *clears throat* mmhmm You can start by going to the gym and working out with an empty barbell. Go get completely smoked by moving an empty barbell; practicing the Snatch. From your shins to Overhead in one motion, Go. Trace your body with the bar as you go up starting from the deadlift position. As you can see, as a father of 2 at 37 years....I can still slam bars and get new PR's if I JUST SHOW TF UP AND DO IT! Fuck you(r) excuses if thats all you're going giving me. They mean nothing to me; as they should you aswell. Oh and uh FYI......Olympic weightlifters aren't all exactly monstrous heathens like body builders or wrestlers. Go check any YouTube USAW Nationals or worlds.
"He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man." Hunter S. Thompson. Mine is the Olympic barbell.
Funny, but so far it’s worked for the first 45 years of my life. 5’9” and 170 lbs and resting heart rate of around 44 bpm.Diet and exercise, the only thing repeatedly proven not to work long term.![]()
Now that said, I could kick the bucket tonight…Funny, but so far it’s worked for the first 45 years of my life. 5’9” and 170 lbs and resting heart rate of around 44 bpm.
^^^this! Us Americans eat WAY too much processed food. Stuff is mostly garbage. One thing I have found is it's not only what you eat in terms of carbs, etc, but the quality of the food. When I go to Europe I literally eat whatever I want and I lose weight like a Jew in Germany 1944. It's insane. It's because their food is clean.
What were you before that?Funny, but so far it’s worked for the first 45 years of my life. 5’9” and 170 lbs and resting heart rate of around 44 bpm.
Yes. Lots of our food is poison. So many common foods make me sick now. My stomach has never been picky. It's not even the processed food though. It's the bread, it's the vegetables, it's the dairy.
I ate croissants with chocolate spread almost every day for breakfast and often lunch for a month straight there and I lost 10 pounds.

Here’s my schedule. 200 minutes of cardio a week. Walking mostly! Light weight strength training on machines. Light means more reps. I’ve lost 33 lbs. it took a year and 4 months! I try to stay around 1500 calories consumed per day. Those calories are mostly protein. Fish, chicken, tuna, peas , nuts etc! I dink 90 percent water Stay away from sugar!I wouldn't consider power lifting bullshit in my 40s regardless of how good of shape I'm in. It has no purpose in the OP's goal. I do encourage strength training but there are so many safe ways to build muscle.
Crossfit nonsense is a great way to get hurt. My friend helped rehab severapeople who got injured from that bullshit.
I’ve been that for the last 10 years. Married 20 years ago and weighed 145 at that point. I’ve never done a diet in my life. What were you before that?
I am not against lifting. I’ve often thought of buying a weight set, and I actually do have some dumbbells, but time is my main factor. CrossFit is dumb. Cardio is boring, but definitely do something to stay healthy. I am actually reaching an age and my job is such that I should start lifting so I don’t start falling apart too soon.I wouldn't consider power lifting bullshit in my 40s regardless of how good of shape I'm in. That's what I figured. So your comment isn't contradicting what I said. You didn't lose a lot of weight and kept it off with diet / exercise.I’ve been that for the last 10 years. Married 20 years ago and weighed 145 at that point. I’ve never done a diet in my life.

You didn’t specify losing weight vs keeping it off. I’ve stayed healthy this way. Also, I’ve known more people to get healthy and stay healthy with healthy eating and exercise than people using fad diets, shots, or idiotic weight loss programs. Your comment is kinda vague. Are you just saying people should get a shot or something? That's what I figured. So your comment isn't contradicting what I said. You didn't lose a lot of weight and kept it off with diet / exercise.
Sorry. Maybe some people have better genetics. I can’t help that you have to take juice and lift weights to feel strong. There's a seniors class at my gym. Grandpas are still lifting weights and making some younger dudes look like whimps. Working out using an empty barbel, IMO, was NO WHERE CLOSE to an excessive recommendation on a physical activity to do based on his age. GMAFB, dude.....You dont lift weights ever? Then, any opinion you hold on this matter is null and void.
