The fat shot

Then go pick up a barbell and stop being a whiny little bitch and giving me excuses I don't to hear. 😘 🤜

Never tried Olympic weightlifting? Perfect. Then you have absolutely no bad habits to break. We may begin. *clears throat* mmhmm You can start by going to the gym and working out with an empty barbell. Go get completely smoked by moving an empty barbell; practicing the Snatch. From your shins to Overhead in one motion, Go. Trace your body with the bar as you go up starting from the deadlift position. As you can see, as a father of 2 at 37 years....I can still slam bars and get new PR's if I JUST SHOW TF UP AND DO IT! Fuck you(r) excuses if thats all you're going giving me. They mean nothing to me; as they should you aswell. Oh and uh FYI......Olympic weightlifters aren't all exactly monstrous heathens like body builders or wrestlers. Go check any YouTube USAW Nationals or worlds.

"He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man." Hunter S. Thompson. Mine is the Olympic barbell.
You do realize he said he’s almost 70, correct? So maybe tone down the attitude a little and respect the fact that a man that is well onto the twilight of his life is trying to stay healthy. You and your Olympic weights can go pound sand. I don’t life weights ever, but I can still carry a pack and bow all over the mountains of Idaho at the ripe age of 45. Weights aren’t needed. Exercise and healthy eating is enough to stay healthy.

My son sent this to me sometime back to keep things in perspective.

Ultimately, only you are in control of your piehole, he said.

One thing I have found is it's not only what you eat in terms of carbs, etc, but the quality of the food. When I go to Europe I literally eat whatever I want and I lose weight like a Jew in Germany 1944. It's insane. It's because their food is clean.
^^^this! Us Americans eat WAY too much processed food. Stuff is mostly garbage.

I wouldn't consider power lifting bullshit in my 40s regardless of how good of shape I'm in. It has no purpose in the OP's goal. I do encourage strength training but there are so many safe ways to build muscle.

Crossfit nonsense is a great way to get hurt. My friend helped rehab severapeople who got injured from that bullshit.

Here’s my schedule. 200 minutes of cardio a week. Walking mostly! Light weight strength training on machines. Light means more reps. I’ve lost 33 lbs. it took a year and 4 months! I try to stay around 1500 calories consumed per day. Those calories are mostly protein. Fish, chicken, tuna, peas , nuts etc! I dink 90 percent water Stay away from sugar!

I am not against lifting. I’ve often thought of buying a weight set, and I actually do have some dumbbells, but time is my main factor. CrossFit is dumb. Cardio is boring, but definitely do something to stay healthy. I am actually reaching an age and my job is such that I should start lifting so I don’t start falling apart too soon.

As you know, most of losing weight is all about nutrition and how many calories you consume. Exercise, regardless of what method you choose is great as long as it's safe. I haven't walked on the treadmill for months because of plantar fasciitis.

I'm currently eating 2200 calories a day and I'm losing right at 2 pounds per week. I should be about 182 pounds by the end of the month. Hopefully, that's where I need to be to accomplish my goal.

Your last line is exactly why I started exercising almost 3 years ago. I was doing physical therapy for a second time on my shoulder while waiting to see the orthopedic surgeon. I knew if I didn't change things, that there was no way I could do my job another 25 years. Being stronger, and having better mobility has made things a lot easier on me. I still had to have surgery, but hopefully this prevents further problems.

I eliminated my low back pain that I fought for years with the use of one machine in my friend's personal gym. The last year has been life changing for me. I laugh because he always says how much I've done for him and his dad. He says he can never repay me, but he underestimates how much of a difference he's made in my life! People take good health for granted!

There's a seniors class at my gym. Grandpas are still lifting weights and making some younger dudes look like whimps. Working out using an empty barbel, IMO, was NO WHERE CLOSE to an excessive recommendation on a physical activity to do based on his age. GMAFB, dude.....You dont lift weights ever? Then, any opinion you hold on this matter is null and void.

That's what I figured. So your comment isn't contradicting what I said. You didn't lose a lot of weight and kept it off with diet / exercise.
You didn’t specify losing weight vs keeping it off. I’ve stayed healthy this way. Also, I’ve known more people to get healthy and stay healthy with healthy eating and exercise than people using fad diets, shots, or idiotic weight loss programs. Your comment is kinda vague. Are you just saying people should get a shot or something?

Sorry. Maybe some people have better genetics. I can’t help that you have to take juice and lift weights to feel strong.

The only legitimate life hack to loose fat is low carb. Grain products are intentionally designed to make you fat. That's why we give grain to cattle.

Eat nothing but steak, salad, bacon, eggs, butter and avocados for while. It's almost impossible to not to get lean doing that.

One thing is for sure - the over 50 crowd at the gym is pretty sparse. You have some delusional folks that show up reasonably consistently but never make progress b/c they work just hard enough to raise a bead (if the AC is bad) on machines..... followed by conversation, their phone, and resting. Superset? Nah.... I think I have seen one or two other 50+ yr olds do real deads with an actual oly bar, same for cleans (which admittedly require more skill to maintain form), ATG during squats? LOL. Pullups (even weighted assist)? Nope. I see a lot of bench with an oly bar, but not actually touching their chest. Strength training and stretching are 'the things' for aging. Starting at ground zero is an ego killer for most and I think that is what stops most from either entering the gym or using horrific form until they get injured and then quit.

A different tact for some might be: Yoga ('flow yoga') is generally what you're looking for, but FYI - Hot Yoga (room heated up to 90+) and flow can be challenging. Pilates is a more gentle way to get strength throughout the whole range of motion (which is what you want - esp for injury prevention). Or just start with a Tai Chi class in the park and use that to launch into your own isometrics and stretching. Swimming - super gentle on the body, requires lessons / shit tons of YouTube / tips from the competitive swimmer kid you know; otherwise people who flounder more than swim tend to use a mask and snorkel to do their laps.

Absent real effort people start loosing strength and muscle mass after 30 and it simply accelerates after that.

Use it or lose it.

ps - your cardiologist probably wouldn't agree and would immediately write you a script for some statens from the last hot drug rep that came through the office.

Diet and exercise, the only thing repeatedly proven not to work long term.
This. But the hard part is the Diet. All our TV and media push food. Thats the one thing that really was an eye opener for me--how much food is pushed on us. It is simple. But its not Easy. Simple != Easy (One of my favorites sayings)

Tell an alcoholic they can drink 1 drink a day. Just one. When you are addicted to food, you can't NOT eat. Even post surgery my biggest struggle is "Am I really hungry or is it my brain just talking" 9/10 times, its my brain.

Low Carb/Keto/South Beach, etc doesn't matter.

Energy out > Energy In: Weight Loss
Energy In > Energy Out: Wright Gain

One of the strategies that I did find worked well is do make rules like "NO CARBS" or "No Sugars" you are doomed to fail. Its your trends that matter. Yesterday was kinda a shitty day--had a big fat brisket sandwhich. and I was not in my meal window. But I don't get brisket often now. It was a treat. Today: Protein Yogurt and Toast.

Its not that I can't enjoy a drink: Its a special occasion--my Birthday, wife's Birthday, meetup with friends. I get one. Yup I'm gonna be the Fed at Rifle class cause I don't drink socially anymore. I still still with you mofos and eat the kids meal.

@Im2bent : Non diabetics will still get a lower blood sugar but that window is so damn wide that is really touch to get "bad" low blood sugar. Yes, Type 1 diabetes is a real danger, but we are so overweight as a country they its damn near impossible to lower your sugar to a dangerous level without having Type 1 diabetes. I was one double max does of metformin and Ozempic AND was still at 8.2 A1C. And I was actually one of the better patients. Right now I am at 5.2 (i think--maybe 5.8). technically "pre-diabetes" but my official diagnosis is "Diabetes Control through Diet"

My father lost 100+ pounds buy eating salads and walking. No surgery. Took him 2 years. I hate the SOB (not really) because he did it naturally. I had to do "the shock"

And yeah the >50 crowd at the gym is sparse. Give no fucks. I am not a ripped Jason Momoa/Jack Reacher Guy. I struggle with 50lb curls (total) and 25 lb barbells. My PRS gun is still a fucking pig (Speaking of the young crowd). Yes I hang out with the coffin dodgers in F-Class. My shoulder was f'd up--but after swimmng last year--viola--its better! You want balls? show up at 300lbs in a swim suit. 0 fucks given--its cold outside and i gotta exercise. My gym shirt says "Everything Hurts and I'm dying"

Just a lot slower now.

My goal is to be this 80+ year old guy stumbling around at 1k practice who still kicks my ass every week despite looking like a stiff breeze would blow him over. Plus it will piss off most of the bear pit and i live for that shit.

“ABS are made at the dinner table”

Look up Dr Sarah Hallberg TedX talk on nutrition success. She ran a clinic with the University of Illinois that got > 98% of her diabetics and hypertension patients off all meds in a year.

Novo Nordisk the manufacturer of Ozempic was unable to license it in their own country due to severity of side effects and minimal drop in A1c

Zone 2 cardio is a waste. Pushed by people like Dr Peter Attia who also has most of his patients on pharmaceuticals. Long distance runners are the best example. No increase in longevity. No decrease in coronary artery disease MI stroke or cancer.

Athlete with greatest longevity and decrease in all cause mortality is…………
High jumpers. All HIIT training in moderation.

Norwegian 4x4 study. Only exercise trial to ever show improvement in function and structure of heart.

A good start.
125 grams protein per day
100 grams fat per day
< 50 grams carbs per day ( 50g/ day is considered low carb and < 20g/day is considered no carb)

Will need to adjust based on your personal response over time

Avoid all processed foods, seed oils and carbohydrates in all forms as possible

Resistance training in HIIT format. Yes if your older , like me, you will need to start slowly. And will look and feel retarded at first.

You’re goal is to lose visceral fat not what you can see but that will come off as a consequence. See Dr Sean O’Meara (SP?) Evidence based with CT data.

Don’t beat yourself up over slow progress.

Fall off the horse get back on.

Diet is the primary mechanism for weight loss not exercise.

The right exercise is a must as all data shows increased muscle mass leads to longevity and lower all cause mortality. But for those of us who are older or not accustomed to exercise it will need to start lower and progress slower to avoid injury.

Stop all this bullshit arguing and start supporting each other with data backed strategies

^^^this! Us Americans eat WAY too much PERIOD.

Took the liberty of editing your post, no offense intended…

Low Carb/Keto/South Beach, etc doesn't matter.

Energy out > Energy In: Weight Loss
Energy In > Energy Out: Wright Gain

It’s as simple as this.

Paleo / Caveman / Carnivore / Keto are all fanciful forms of Rationalization marketed to appeal to our insecurities.

Rationalizations are a Defense Mechanism.

Don’t be the guy who needs a reinforced AssMax wheelchair or commode in their old age.

Don’t reek of filth because you can’t properly clean your crevices.

STARVE.

Or work out like a fiend.

That’s cool. By pure accident I discovered that planking helped my lower back. As a concrete finisher (no joke!) for many years my low back is in pain most of the time. Planking and pushups have done a ton to help that. Plus some stretches/exercises I found buy a physical therapist. Tried a chiropractor and got sick of paying that $40/month only to have continued discomfort.

This, my doctor tried to get me on statens in 2017 , for high cholesterol when I went to pick it up the bill was over 300$ , I declined that shit , of course the doc was passed but I'm glad I didn't fall for that crap. Since I've lost the 60lbs my VA doc took me off my blood pressure medication whoo who.so now other than the wegovy I'm med free .although I do take vitamins and other stuff for covid prevention. Didn't get the jab or the flu shot and hardly ever get sick so must be doing something right.

So I was right and the question remains what is it doing to non diabetics taking this because the fucking pharma companies realized the marketability of a side effect and are pushing it as a weight loss med.
Yup. and best of all, it creates shortages for diabetics when all the trendy fashionistas use it to lose 10 lbs. My fat ass was dying of diabetes and these aholes buy up all the drugs.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of medicine is VERY beneficial. But there is also a lot of $$$ involved. One of my biggest mistakes was I got ready to do surgery at about age 40, lost a bunch of weight, then decided to just go it alone as i thought surgery was just a big money maker. Gained it all back and diabetes got worse.

Plus like I mentioned, there is a pysch thing: in my weight loss class its all women. And thats not really a good thing. I still got that hint of "marketing" but I was desparate enough and things had started to break down that I had to do a moonshot.

Diet and exercise is so very simple. Its HARD AS FUCK. Everywhere pushes food on you. Bad food. Gym bros are assholes. Trainers don't know what to do with Baritric Patients. (I literally cannot eat enough to keep up--I have the stomach size of a pre-teen girl).

Still would do it again and twice on Sunday. Support you fellow bros and take em for a walk and give em a word of encouragement. Men don't do weight loss and its much more accetable to be male and fat. Take a giant middle finger to big pharma and food and advertising and start moving.

And eat apples, protein yogurt (Blueberry!), and occasionally (just occasionaly) some pie. I eat a shit ton of steak and chicken as my big limiter is protein. Trying to get 100g of protein a day with 1/4 of a stomach iss a challenge. mmmmmm Steak!
