This thread made me go down the rabbit hole and look at a RugerMarlin 45-70 guide gun
You all suck
Hmm I may just do thatGet a 357, you’ll thank me later and so will your bank account when you have to feed it.
For around here a 45-70 won’t do anything a 357 won’t except for remove steel targets from their mounting at close range with stout loads. It’s a lot more fun to shoot, trajectory is similar and you can buy ammo for $.50-$.60/rd.
Hmm I may just do that
I just saw your buddies over at Jax Gun Repair the other day. I may ask them to see if they can find me one in their crates lol
I need to take a ride and meet up and shoot some boomsticks so I can see one of them in personThey’ve been listing some but most are Remington made ones that should be avoided like the plague.
The new Ruger guns are the shit. My 357 classic and 44 SBL shoot groups like a really good bolt gun and the fit and finish is better than anything Marlin or Remington made. I’ve got a 45-70 trapper as well that I had to have a few months back that I haven’t shot yet.

Don’t molest that barrel! lolMade the trade. Marlin model 30AW. JM stamped. Other than being zeroed, I dont think it was even used. Now to get a can on it.

Sadly, I got it with that very intention. This will replace my 300 blackout. It may get the full modern treatment eventually.Don’t molest that barrel! lol
Gorgeous rifle
Cycle it with a good gun lube a couple times. Maybe make sure the bolt is clean and free of any junk.Anybody have any pointers on slicking these things up? She cycles a little rough.
I did a Rossi m92, started by oiling and cycling it like 1-200 times. Slightly better.Anybody have any pointers on slicking these things up? She cycles a little rough.
Any Lever Action can be improved by sitting down to your favorite movie (spaghetti westerns or John Wayne movies work well) and cycle the action the whole time.
I’ve found through experience that replacing some parts and cycling the action does better than a “race ready” action job.
Parts source?I have only replaced the trigger, sear, and springs in one levergun out of several I have owned, but it made a world of difference. Cycles like butter and brought the trigger weight down from around 6 pounds to about 2 or 3. I highly recommend it.

Are 336 parts the same as this 30AW ? I looked on their site and didn't see anything 30aw specific.Ranger Point Precision.
