Winds aloft were 30 Kts. Winds on DZ were 5 Kts. Parachute was a

That's why I would never join Airborne. I don't trust the cookie-cutter 'chutes. Either fly with a individually deployed 'chute, or don't fly. The 'slowed crash' approach to skydiving is retarded.

I know this guy, he wound up with a hell of a lot of complications and has just recently gotten out of the hospital, this happened back in August last year. He's one tough SOB so for him to be screaming like that you know it had to be really bad.

From the video it looked like he SHOULD have done a front left PLF and instead he didn't do any type of PLF. Sometimes that happens and it works out OK. This time it didn't. I think that he should have been pulling a slip as well to slow down.

I hope that he has a full recovery and stays on jump status.

I saw a guy try to stand up a landing on purpose, with both legs locked. He actually bounced off his own feet and his helmet snapped straight to the ground. Broke both ankles, lucky it wasn't worse, honestly. Hope thus guy recovers. I wonder if he was looking down instead of at the horizon. Rough.

Agreed. I wonder if the presence of a camera had anything to do with what I speculate was a ill fated attempt to do a stand up landing.

Military airborne is not "skydiving", two different animals, and from my dated experience the canopies we used were sized to the heaviest 10% of jumpers with gear. If you're not 230 before chuting up most landings are uneventful if performed correctly (that's why we did pre-jump activities for half a day before the jump). But, even in skydiving you have to have 200 jumps to jump a camera (even the small format GoPro/Contour)as it takes skill to handle the possible emergencies that could happen with the snag hazard, and the maturity required to pay attention and complete the jump without showing your ass. Sometimes stupid hurts, heal fast airborne.
