Looks like Im going for either the AI or TRG22 next week. I really like the Sako with the 20" barrel. The gun alone is about 3k, plus accessories. The AI is around 3.6k. My question is, does the cost of accessories on the TRG make it more expensive in total than the AI. Im talking bases,bi-pods, ect? Or is the AI more in total. Any issue with the 20 incher on the Sako vs the longer tube. I plan to run my ACC 7.62SD on the rifle. Thanks as always.

Just get the AI and be done with it

And the answer is in the end it's close enough to a wash not to matter, just get the one you want.

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

List exactly what you want to buy and a comparison can be made including accessories, parts, and desired features. Otherwise someone will come in and say "if you buy X mags, the AI will cost less". Sako accessories are expensive.

Base rifles? Folders? Adjustable stock parts? Only factory parts or will you run an Atlas, etc. Is barrel swapping without a gunsmith important? Are you going to run a low, 1pc mount like a Spuhr? It might be an issue with the AIAE rail which has irregular spacing. The question is too vague to answer and folks will just post their opinion versus a monetary comparison.

Your buying AE?

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

While I really like the AI platform I really like the Sako TRG-22. I run an Atlas bipod on mine and it works like a charm. Sako extras can be a bit high but an AI bipod and Sako bipod are pretty close to the same money anyway. The only complaint that I have is the price of mags however KRG makes the AICS mag conversion so its a non issue and still comes in less than an AI if you wanted to go that route. You won't go wrong with either however.

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

I have the TRG and an AIAW, I like them both. I say get both, but if I had to pick one it would be the TRG. You need to be fair to your self and atleast handle each one before you decide.

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

For full disclosure, I was looking at the AW and Sako TRG-22 with folding stock. I went with the Sako mainly because it was cheaper. Most people would say the AIAE and AIAW are close enough to negate paying for the military rifle premium over the LE version. I wanted a military rifle so Sako ended up winning my dilemma.

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

No they are not equal or the same , to me its simple , when the Sako is 1/2 the price of a AW , only then is the Sako interesting .

If the price between the Sako TRG22 & an AW are close , then its NO contest for me , BUY the real deal , get the AW .

In simple term' s , YES the AW is better than the 22 , the double feed mag of the AW series is MUCH better as far as I am concerned .

Have not had a jam with an AW yet , but have had jams with the 22 , this mag is a single feed / double stack design .

I actually LIKE reliablitiy in operation .

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

Gone Mach, I was just in the predicament you are, you like them both but you have to pick one. Because these guns are expensive, I studied and read as many post here that I could find in order to make an informed decision. Prior to getting involved with tactical rifles I had never heard of AI but did know about Sakos reputation for making dam good guns, so naturally I was immediately drawn to the TRG. I wanted the TRG but was going for AI until I was given a lead on a real nice used TRG which I ended up buying and that solved the problem once and for all. Man I got to tell you I just shot this gun for the first time yesterday and I can tell you I'm very impressed with the performance and can't wait to get to the range again. My gun has the 20" barrel factory bipod. I think you can't go wrong with either but if you get the TRG your going to love it especially the trigger it's sweet. good luck

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

This is tough..AIAE folder on one of the websites for $3.7 out the door. If I could just find a good used one.

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

Gone Mach, It took me about three months to find my TRG. I looked at two others but I held out and don't regret it because the rifle I finally got is like new in every way and came w/factory bipod, scope rail and also the ITRS accessory rail. that alone is over 300 bucks by it self. I paid 2850.00 for mine last week. I recommend if you hang in there you will find THE GUN. good luck

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

Good Things are worth waiting for. Not everyone has the kind of money to actually own BOTH of these Magnificent Rifles. Those that do, you're my hero! With that being said, unless you're 100% set your mind on buying a new one then it's a hard choices, but for the rest who are cost oriented and wanting to buy a used one, I'd just wait it out and try to find a Good Deal on either one of these rifles...If you wait long and look hard enough you'll probably run into a deal you just Can't Refuse on one of the 2, at that time you'll know which one you should get. Good Luck bro, both of these rifles are Amazing and Worth the Money.

Re: AI or TRG total cost comparison

To me the Sako is 3/4 of what it could have been.
I hate the mag system and have seen it fail.

The AI is everything it needs to be.

I have seen lots of guys buy Sako then buy AI...Not so much the other way.
