American Guns-WTF

Re: American Guns-WTF

pnorris makes me tired. And the hole he is digging is getting deeper and deeper... Hopefully it fills in soon. Not everyone should own a firearm.

Re: American Guns-WTF

You might as well take this, it will make digging that hole of yours much easier.

Re: American Guns-WTF

My confusion was caused by the fact that I have only ever owned one handgun, a beretta 9mm about 13 years ago. That gun could be fired in the uncocked position as a double action and then single action the remainder of the magazine. In my limited experience, I incorrectly assumed that this was typical. I admit that I am wrong and I dug my whole. Perhaps someone can throw me a rope and I can emerge both humbled and enlightened. Hey, at least I provided some entertainment. Sorry for the confusion guys. So far, this forum has been a great source of information for my newest purchases. I am wrong, I admit it and I can now move on.

The dog is a turn off... I was considering going to the shop on Saturday and picking her up, cause let's face it, how can she resist, but the dog ruined it for her.

Frank you're too damn sexy for your own good, just saying, cuz I think its going to your head!

Re: American Guns-WTF

I thought it was already been said / found out that the "kids" in the show arent really the dads biological kids. might as well slap a coat of paint and fake boobs on the daughter (and mom i guess too) if it helps get a sale.

Re: American Guns-WTF

Moms got a fresh set and fresh paint, the girls got a few years of hard use to go.

Anyone that believes the head of a successful competition team pays, let alone pays double top cost is sitting to close to the TV and staring to absorb some wiggin voodoo ray.
Who does not want to sponsor the hot tattooed gun slinging girls in Austin? Its not coincidental that they have had how many 'big names' on the show?

7 pages talking about it here, good bad or indifferent.

Dude who thinks he is going to get a formal invite and advance warning on when he needs a weapon.
I can only tell you to pray for piece in your lifetime or you will die horribly in the gutter or public bathroom stall. Even if you did carry you would be stabbed to death without ever getting the gun out let alone loaded.
No one ever thinks that they will end up in a shooting or they would have stayed home.

Re: American Guns-WTF

I've only personally been able to sit through two episodes of the show. I recall one episode where they quote a guy over $4000 for basically a Mare's Leg chambered in .500… I nearly shat myself. Even the look on the guy's face was slight shock as he agreed to have them do the build for that price.

The build, (if I remember correctly), basically consisted of lopping the stock off of a lever action .45-70 and re-barreling it, and then some slight modifications here and there to include reworking the shell carrier for proper feeding. Then… to top it off, they mounted a chrome skull to it. For 4 Grand?

During all of this, the entire shop of "gunsmiths" had more issues than the New York Times, and more drama than prom night. Ridiculous would be an understatement.

You do see why the discovery channel does not run both American Guns and Sond of Guns at the same time, how would ewe ever come up with all the witty comments for two threads at the same time?

Re: American Guns-WTF

These "discovery" shows on firearms... Just yuck.

If you want shooting shows, look at the Outdoor Channel on Wednesdays. All shooting all day. Only BS is advertisements --and at least those are all for firearms. No "reality" BS either.

My favorite is "Impossible Shots". Short and hokey, but it is a lot of fun watching those exhibition shooters go at it. Nothing like watching Miculek nail balloons with a 6" 617 .22 revolver and a red dot at nearly 300y --holding it upside down.

Bring that dog up to the mountains just west of Denver and we can see how well it works for moving target practice. Or live mountain lion bait, your call.

Leave the girl at home. Way better looking women around the front range that aint such a PIA.

Re: American Guns-WTF

I have to imagine the "deals" are fake and the customer is too. I think it was last season where a guy brought in his favorite heirloom bolt action with a nice wood stock for a caliber change and Gunsmoke turned it into a synthetic disaster. I have a feeling once the cameras are off, reactions are quite different. Does the invoice say....
$325 barrel
$210 chamber & crown
$2,500 drama
$1,300 advertising for drama
$600 helicopter fuel surcharge

Re: American Guns-WTF

LOL. I covered face and went yum, then i covered the body and went AAHHH.

But I think the show sons of guns is more entertaining, plus I love hearing that idiot say NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE. Cracks me up every time.

There were ads on armslist for WY a few months past for auditions to be on the next season. I thought it was hilarious they were using a free gun classified site for people within 100 miles to be on the show. They misty be hurting for clients.

Let's not beat on the newbie guys. I will admit that it took me a little while to get used to the idea of carrying a 1911 in condition 1 (one in the pipe/cocked/locked)but you get used to the idea in a hurry. I carry a 1911 because I am comfortable with it, it is thinner than other guns that I have carried, and it is my best shooter. Before I carried the 1911 I had an XD that I carried every day and then before that a 92fs.

Condition 1 is always with the safety on...condition 0 is safety off and ready to roll. If you put a single action firearm in a holster in condition 0 (especially one with no grip safety) you should be prepared to be presenting your Blue Cross card very soon.

Maybe I don't feel that somebody is about to shoot me at any second. If I had the fear, I would pull it would and chamber a round. So, if you feel good flaming me some more, have at it : ) </div></div>

I will not flame you, hopefully enlighten you. A self defense weapon (firearm) without a round chambered is at best a club at worst a paper weight. Enough about the pistols safeties an such think mindset. Do you really think your going to have time to draw said (potential) weapon chamber a round an bring that weapon to bare in the amount of time to stay alive? If a man with a knife in hand is within 7 yards of you, your first move should be to increase that space because he's going to possibly kill you before you can draw a shoot. Those few tenths of a sec needed to chamber a round could cost you your life. Glad to hear you don't carry, those who do should get some training and drill, drill, drill. EOR

Or maybe I was in the Marine Corps…

Condition one-magazine loaded, round in chamber, safety on
Condition two-n/a (applies to very few weapon systems)
Condition three-magazine loaded, chamber empty, safety on
Condition four-weapon clear, safety on

Lesson over. School is closed for the evening...
