Is a HS precision pro ser worth the extra $80.00?

Still need to get a better stock for my 700sps.308 varmint. Stockys has Bell and Carlson Sendaro 2958 for $213.76. Midway has HS Precision Pro series pst012 for $293.99. Is there really a $80.00 quality difference between the two? If the HS is that much better a stock at almost $300.00 should I just save more money and get a McMillan M40A1(which is what I really want). Also is the McMillan a torque on and shoot stock like the other two? Would the McMillan be a waste on a $500.00 rifle with a Weaver 4-20 tactical? Thanks in advance for any opinions and info.

For me the HS model 012 I upgraded my sps tac with was worth it. That stock fits me perfect. If it didn't then I would save more and go with an AICS or McMillan. I am not a fan of the B@C so that was never really an option for me.

I like the HS over the BC but if you really want it then save your money and go Mac. Cry once. Custom builds make you OCD so its just best to get it right the first time.

All three stocks will shoot best with a good bedding job. I wouldn't cut corners there. Get a trigger job while you are at it.

Your weaver scope should be good. I know a lot of guys who use them and they are real gems for the money. I've recommneded them to several new shooters. They seem to have really good tracking.

The next step would be a custom barrel and action truing job. To me that the differance between a custom rifle and an acessorized factory rig.

Personally, I would save my money and get exactly what you want. You won't remember the good deal you got for very long if its not your first choice.

Regards, Paul.

Check the Post Exchange here if you have no problems buying used. There are always people trying to sell stocks. As for which stock to get, that is all you.

I say save and get the best you can.

Get the Mcmillan, because you will end up doing just that after you settle for second best and are still not satified. Buy once cry once...

I absolutely love the HS precision stock on my sps-v. LOP is perfect for my size (5'7") and is super light compared to my choate tac stock. I will most def. Buy one again, and I managed to get it nearly brand new for way under retail on the BST section, worth taking a look at. Ultimately though if you REALLY want the m40 stock, just save a little longer. You won't go wrong with either.

Re: Is a HS precision pro ser worth the extra $80.00?

The HS Precision PST012 is the same stock that comes on the Rem 700P. With that being the case, I'd try and find a takeoff from someone here on the hide, as you'll save about $100-$150 doing so. You can try that out, and if you feel like you still want the McM, sell it off and upgrade again. Or you could just save up and get what you really want the first time, your call.

Re: Is a HS precision pro ser worth the extra $80.00?

Are the 700P, PST012, and the 7005r the same, same large palm swell?
I believe the varmint models are similar without the huge palm swell.
I would be interested in a 'semi' palm swell in this line.
OP, this is something to know of buying used / takeoff.

Thanks guys you made me do some thinking. I will hold out for the Mcmillan unless I run across a better deal on something used.

I'm 5'8" so I guess this stock was specifically designed for someone our size.
