Do you know of any ranges in the area we could use to zero our rifles?

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Saw the venue today: It's hot. And its high. Awesome!!!

The walk to the first stage looks like a bit of route march.

As soon as the sun goes down it's time for a run.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

1. Will there be trash receptacles at some of the checkpoints?

2. Will there be enough water for everyone at MCP4?

3. Will we be leaving the area by the same route that we arrive?

4. Is there an additional shooters meeting, or is this all:

FRIDAY
1200-1500 Mandatory Check-in
1500 Briefing
1600 Race start

5. Is the check-in location the Sniper Country lodge?

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

You'll find out when you check in and get your route sheet no earlier than noon Friday.

You'll have to manage your own trash until the end of the race.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Re 4 & 5, yes. The briefing is the shooters' meeting.
Check-in is at 12T 0403295 4644355, which is the SniperCountry Lodge. These are the coordinates I posted before and are on the front page of the match web site.

See you soon...

Best of luck to all, looks like some great prep has gone into this.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Good luck to everyone especially my friends to the north (go B. Fooks). Is there a list of competitors? Will there be any event updates or will we just have to wait till it's over.

YES we would like to know.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

This looks like some Mark Burnett Eco-Challenge, from some reality show.

My hats off to all the challengers!! I spent 10 years in the Army and this looks HARD!!! All the challengers are HOOOOAAH!!

Congrats to CD and TBAC for a well-done event.

Best of luck to all and a safe finish to everyone!

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

I did it! I wanted to quit twice but my partner wouldn't let me. This is THE HARDEST thing I've ever done in my life. Even with 24 yrs active Army, I've never seen or heard of something so hard. Sittin in my little motel room soaking my feet in the tub with Epsom Salts with no less than 4 honkin blisters and I haven't had a blister in over 4 years. I trained in the same boots and socks since January, 2x per week.

The start was the craziest thing ever. Carry a 100 lb duffle bag full of rocks, sand, on one or two 2x4's for 3 miles in 95+ deg heat on black top. Then continue on about 3 more miles to the first mandatory check point.

Huah to all the competitors whether or not you finished.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Very brutal start. Entered the event with multiple stress fractures in my knee(found out the day before). Turned out to be very tough on the body, and had to drop out in the middle of the night.

Amazing event, and congrats to everyone that made an attempt.

Thanks to CD and Sniper Country.

Healing up for next year!!!

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

The rock carry was 3 miles btw...

Tough course indeed. Definitely would like to try it again with a more rigorous preparation.

Kudos to everyone involved.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Congrats to the competitors.

Question though, how difficult was the land nav? Anyone get lost or seriously out of route?

TB

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

The land nav was physically very difficult, but the points we relatively easy to find during the day and when the moon was still out.

About midnight or so, there was zero illumination and it made it near impossible to correct course or determine location if you made a minor error. The only terrain feature you would have to go on were the ones you were walking on.

It will come out soon, but I believe only 5-7 or so teams completed the event with all required checkpoints and only about half made it to the end. Respect to all who showed up, regardless if you made it the whole way or went out on your shield.

Ya know, now that I think of it, it wasn't 6 miles. I was quoting what I saw over on Facebook and thinking about the entire route march to MCP 1.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

The carry was 3 miles and it was 6.4 from the start to the first control point.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Has the score sheet been posted yet? Patiently waiting to see how a few of my buddies finished. Thanks.

Zak,

Thanks for putting on such an epic event. So epic, I feel it every muscle. I'll come back to do it again if you promise to not make it so hard.

Really though, you have a very talented staff and a venue that would be hard to top.

Hope to see you again.

I was going to say the opposite, don't dumb this event down. It was very hard, and it should have been. I think that offers the uniqueness of it. I do have one suggestion for the scoring if you are interested in hearing it.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Zak,

Awesome event. The night nav from MCP2 to MCP3 was tough. Zero light, high winds, saw red flashing lights and flashlights circling all over back there. Definitely the hardest thing I have done in my life. Hats off to all the other competitors. Looking forward to the sequel and being much more physically prepared. I did not expect to be physically destroyed so early on. Thanks again to you and all the awesome staff, RO's and medical staff were great.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

I saw a lot of heart out there. A few guys pushed themselves pretty close to the limit there. I love it when I see people giving it everything that they have. It was definitely an opportunity to learn something about yourself. I've got few ideas cooking that you all will enjoy on the next go. Good luck, and we'll see you on the beach!

Agreed! Great event, and keep it up there, and hard - I would rather fail trying to do something epic than complete anything else. There are few opportunities to race like this, and it was great, and very well run.

This isn't the neighborhood 5k, and even showing up takes a ton of work and heart.

Great job all!

We'll post photos and videos very soon. Ray and I just rolled back in to Fort Collins about 15 minutes ago.

I'd like to thank the competitors for doing a really good job and making safe decisions for the most part. Pushing one's limits is great but when you're past them, being able to identify that and seek help is the right thing to do.

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Some stats from memory:
35 teams started the event.
24 crossed the finish line (not necessarily hitting all MCPs).
7 teams hit all mandatory checkpoints.
6 successfully decoded the codewords in the cryptography stage.
3 made all 3 radio checkins.
Only 2 got 100% on the escape and evasion challenge.
The first team to cross the finish line did it in about 24 hours 20-some odd minutes.

Yes, please send suggestions and feedback to me via private email. I'll collect all the feedback and as we plan for future events the CD staff will take it into account in order to create the best events possible.

The 24HSAC broke a lot of ground as a new format and combination of challenges and I know we have a few bugs to work out.

thanks

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

I hope you guys make this a yearly match I would love the chance to do this. Looks like an absolute BLAST!

Re: 2012 24-HOUR SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE

Thanks to Zak and Cody and everyone else for setting this up. It was a very rewarding experience. I did not prepare much for the event, which was a mistake, but oh well. I learned a lot and I think my teammate and I will be back in the future.

edit: if you had asked my opinion of the organizers during the event, I would have said that the world would be better off if you had you never been born.

I also wanted to thank the competitors who quit the race but stuck around and helped us RO or helped other competitors. This includes teams 30, 8, and 7.

The sportsmanship and camaraderie demonstrated by all competitors was really awesome.

I would like to underscore this! Having non-racing teams that immediately volunteered to do anything from extracting teams that had to quit, or had medical needs, running to get more water/nutrition for staff that had been in the field for ~20 hours, filling water tanks for competitors and delivering them to MCPs, was really helpful. All you guys rock!
