i am readt to take the plunge and buy a trimble pda and installing ffs program for my longrange needs. i have found many new and used trimbles and need some help deciding which one.

there are 800lc's and 900lc models with about a 600dopllar difference. both have bluetooth and gps. is one better than the other for setting up with ffs program.

i also intend on running a kestrel 4000 paired to the trembel via bluetooth.

any and all input greatlt appreciated as this will be a major purchase.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

The biggest differance between the 800 and 900 models is the GPS. The 900's have a much better antenna and get fixes in ares the 800 would not, plus autofix gives a faster startup. 800's will have either WM5 or 6, which you might want to update to the latest rev, but the processor and memory are the same. Many of the 800 will have a PDA keypad rather than a numeric keypad, the numeric pad is a better choice if you can get it.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

If you are going to use the unit for full FFS capability, get the 900 with numeric keypad, GPS and the pin adapter for the Vectronix units.

Otherwise, to simply run the program on an SD card it doesn't much matter. See if US Cav still has new ones on sale for $1250.00. Otherwise, if you don't want a new one, maybe PM Skibum here on the Hide, he may have an old Recon for sale.

And it's: TRIMBLE.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

The Recon's don't have an SD card slot, you need to get the Nomad. The serial boot is a $40 add on part for the 800/900, if you need it.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

no recon for me.... i'll shop for the 900 then. does anyone have a part number to shop for the right one. i didnt fint them at uscav, but 1200 seems like a hell of a steal. thanks for any info as im new at this and ready to take the plunge...

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

thats a B model? whats the diff between the 900lc and B models?
Im signed up for the ELR course at Gunsite and need to get on the stick here,,,

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

I smell a group buy here,,,

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

Great question...I was told the L stands for a GPS(which you want) and the C stands for a camera(which you can take it or leave it).

I got a good deal on the 800LC...if you're on the fence, e-mail or call Blaine. Like I said, he knows his PDAs.

There is also the Pharos PDA...hard to find though. But if you can find one on ebay, they are only $150 or so.

I just wanted the Trimble Nomad. Very impressive system. But the star of the show is the FFS software!

Have fun in your search.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

I'm in on that! I would have
a recon with nightforce and Patagonia that I could let go of then :).

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

Blaine it is then, thanks

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

i just want to do this once. couple of my buddies have knights and shooters and some others on there phones. i print ballistic cards off g7 website and found out that 1000k and beyond i need more specific help. my buddies think im crazy but high power ammo aint cheap either.lol.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

I have a 800L with FFS delta IV set up the same as on the FFS web page $ 1200.00 send me a pm and i will sen pictures and specs

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

Here is my setup with the 800L. There is not much difference between the 800L and the 900L, I have one of each. The only thing I have noticed is that the 900L has a slightly larger GPS antenna and is running windows 6.1 instead of 6.0 Performance wise there is no real difference. If you are looking for a 900L I recommend you get it from Blaine at FFS. He has a good price and is easy to work with and gives great support on the FFS program if you have an issue. I use a small tri-pod to set my Kestrel on. I continually bluetooth the information to my firing solution and I input my laser information through a serial port. I have my eye on one of the new Vetronix LRF's with a bluetooth, but I have to come up with $8500.00 first.

i have found a 900lc very cheap. new in box supposidly. will it have numeric keypad and the pin adapter for vectronics?

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

900's should all have the numeric keypad. The serial boot is a simple $40 option, it's not standard equipment but an easy user installed part.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

Also watch ebay for used ones. i picked up a used 800LC for $400. Just watch out for bad sellers. I had one who miss priced a NIB 900 and would not honor the deal. Only time I was glad I used paypal.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

does everyone running a trimble with ffs use a kestrel 4000 0r 4500 bluetooth? i've been looking for a 4500 without anyluck finding a deal.lol

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

trimble arrived new in box. i installed ffs card and cant put it down. lol. i have entered just about all i can at this time. and i have watched blaines 1,2,3 and 4 youtube vids. i do need to get a serial port but im in no big hurry

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

ordered serial port. lol. told ya i cant wait. figured out how to set up kestrel bluetooth. damn thats nice. been playing a little with gps and ready to take her out to the range. really want to get our range on gps and set up for all the steel plates we have. is there any good info on how to set gps locations for shooting bench and all targets at multiple ranges.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

The simplest thing to do is to turn on the GPS, then, in the GPS page, stand at each location and click Save, and FFP or Target, then give it a decent name. Then, whne you are at one of the FFP's, you can select it as your current location and use the targeting function to instantly select any of the named targets without even needing to turn the GPS on.

Whe you have the port and LRF connected, you just ping each target from the FFP and it saves the location, you just name it, no need to go there.

I run mine with a 4500.

To be honest it's not needed. You are purchasing it to use with FFS so need for the Horus Atrag. Same goes with the NV option unless you need it.

wow. went out to my loacal range and set up a FFP and multiple targets. took the ole 308 out to 1209yds. the more i play with this thing the better life gets.

cory is there a way to rename target names? my buddy run up to our 1200yd target hit save and then target. it just says target as a description and the actual 1209yds.

-contact Blaine directly at FFS, he might know...cause I have no clue.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

I know a Pharos will run FFS but i'm not sure of it's abiity to connect with the vectronics, it will work with the kestrel BT though.

Re: tremble pda's with field firing solutions

Anyone tried the new Trimble Juno T41 with FFS? Trimble are positioning this unit as the Nomad successor, apparently. Runs Windows 6.5 embedded handheld (EH). Unsure if FFS will run with this?

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Update: Heard from Blaine at Lex Talus. Apparently FFS runs very well on this unit, if anyone is interested.</span></span>
