Looking for a little folder for cleaning game

Hey all,

I'd like to get a small knife for cleaning small game to deer.

I took a quick ride to Walmart the other night and they had the Bear Grylls series from Gerber but I wasn't impressed. Didn't have a sharp edge at all.

Ironically, the best knife I've ever owned is in my 12 year old Gerber multi-tool that is still sharp as shit after scraping stuff, cutting and using it as a little pry bar lol.

I'm just looking for something that will hold it's edge when you're cutting up animals. Leg bones and heads on squirrels are a bitch on the edge. I resharpen them but they just never last more than a few animals.

What do you use and how do you like it?

I've been using these Queens for longer than I can remember for everything from squirrel to duck to deer. Hold their edge forever. Bottom is a folder. Both are stainless.

ESEE makes some pretty good knives, & at a reasonable price. Just choose your size. http://www.eseeknives.com/knives.htm
If you were just looking for a knife for bigger critters, I'd say to go find a Cold Steel Master Hunter in Carbon V. Mine's definitely a keeper. Though on squirrels it'd definitely be overkill.

I have always been a Gerber fan. But it seems like everything else, the old ones are the Good ones. My two favorite were knives I bought back in the 1970's. one as a senior in High School and the Other while I was Stationed at Ft, Benning Ga. Things use to be built to last. Today things are designed to fail so you have to go back and buy another one.

You mentioned that you want a small folder. Check out these options:

--Kershaw Knockout;
--Kershaw Scallion;
--Benchmade Griptilian & Mini Griptilian;

Or, have you looked at the Outdoor Edge Game Processor kits? I could hook you up...

+1 for the mini griptillian, mine will hold a sharp edge for as long as you don't abuse it and keeps coming back for more--plus it isn't a liner locker which is a huge bonus in my book (liner's always make me nervous sometimes).

These are great knives when the blade starts to dull you just pop it out and insert a new fresh scapal sharp blade. These things are also very reasonably priced something like $40 for the knife and a package of replacement blades. They also work with different blade sizes a nice short one perfect for cleaning small game like rabbits then a longer blade that was perfect on larger game like caribou.
