Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Do you already own the rifle and your just shipping it from your previous residence? If so then you don't even have to mail it to an FFL. If you just purchased it though and they want to ship it to an FFL from out-of-state then there's no getting around it as it's the law and all FFL's have to charge sales tax.

This.

If you can show that you have already paid use(sales) tax, they don't have to charge you. Or, you can ship it to yourself and that would be legal.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

If you already own it, you can ship it directly to your own house. Does not have to go to the FFL.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Gentlemen,

If you get a moment and you have a facebook account, would you mind doing me a favor and going to the PTS Facebook Page and liking them? It's a member here on the hide who will be out here in 8 months and he'll be bringing with him Training Classes and Matches with big sponsors. Let's help him out. Thanks...

Nick

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

So even though I'm already back here in WA I can have someone ship it to me at my home from Ohio?

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

If it was yours to begin with yup!

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

She is definitely mine. Bought the rifle at Federal Way Discount guns, assembled everything here, and took her to college with me when I went. Family issues brought me back so I didn't have a chance to get everything together before I came home.

How would I go about having it shipped, just ship it like a normal package??

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Ship it UPS or FedEx Ground is perfectly fine.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Practical rifle match this coming up this Saturday at Upper Nisqually, rain or shine...my guess is rain, but with steel targets, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Many thanks for spotting for all of us Yesterday, and for the use of your roof top prop.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Broker, I am probably not attending the match, but would definitely like the opportunity to practice some.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I have an new Pelican 1700 black case w/ wheels for sale. Solid foam is uncut. $180 FTF.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Broker you got my hopes all up for a second, if this had been a 1720 I'd be all over it.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Does anyone have one of the Uni-throaters from Pacific Tool and Gauge that will fit my 308 that they might load for about a half hour? I need to move the throat on an AR10 style rifle forward to it doesn't engrave the lands and grooves onto the ogive of the bullet.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

If anyone local to me has a .243 I have 31 rounds of older Winchester and Remington ammo I'm giving away. I also have 11 rounds of old 30-30 Winchester.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

whats up guys, i have a couple questions i hope you can help with. im going to join the upper nisqually club soon, and need to do a ladder test. what is a good distance to test at, and how much spotting scope do i need to see .30 cal. holes at 550 yards.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

In my experience the best distance for a ladder test is the longest one available. At 550 you will be able to see the difference in point of impact between loads, at 1 or 200 yards all you really end up with is a jumble of bullet holes. Check this out article http://www.6mmbr.com/laddertest.html

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Broker let me know when your thinking for the outing.
Could be very interested in going.

Bottomgun that should of been at the last match

I don't have any optics for it, haven't shot it once much less done any load development. I was trying to put it together for outings such as last weekend, but since it wasn't ready I had to go with what I had. I can't complain, I had a great time and got word my build should be here soon.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Now that my new rifle is here I'd be interested in an outing depending on the time/place.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I have some free time should the opportunity present itself.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Cobyb,
I'll be happy to help you out with your ladder test. I'm already a member there, have plenty of targets, and a spotting scope...chronograph too if that helps. You could chrono your loads at the same time you are doing the ladder testing.

If you are only shooting one round of each charge for your ladder test, you will only get an approximate velocity for your loads. To really get the best info off the chrono, you should shoot a number of rounds of the same powder charge through the chrono. Then you can get an extreme spread, and your average charge. While interesting, the standard deviation isn't as useful to me as the spread from low to high, and the average velocity.

As you were at the practical rifle match, you already know that the range that they call the 550 yard range is really only 545 yards to the back stop. Where most of the targets are placed is probably closer to 540-542 yards. In any case, it is far enough to allow you to run a decent ladder test. We can also place targets at exactly 500 yards if you wish.

IM, or email me if I can help you out.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Well I'm back with shipping issues as usual. My friend in Ohio went to UPS to ship my rifle to me. They told him he had to go to the main hub to ship it (this is normal from what I hear), that he could not ship it to my home, and that it had to be shipped to a dealer.

Was this just an associate not knowing their own shipping rules or change of policy?

Also does anyone know of an FFL in the area that will accept from individuals? Just in case the people at the main hub decide to say the same. I just want my rifle back!!

Thanks,
Anthony

That is incorrect. The little UPS stores are filled with oxygen thieves that think they're all working for the ATF. Just have your friend take it to the hub and mail it to you. Don't offer up anymore information than what they ask and just have him ship it to you directly.

Thanks,

Broker is correct, however if the local UPS people insist on being idiots, you might try Russ Haydons shooters supply in Gig Harbor.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I'm going to be doing some market research guys... Is there any other indoor ranges here in Western Washington other than Wades, West Coast, Norpoint, and Bull's Eye you guys can think of?

Thanks,

Being your gun the following applies:
A. UPS guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
B. Have your friend do it again, but add a 2nd line for a "company name" to make it look like it's being sent to a home dealer.
C. The shipping label should already be printed from home and placed on the box, making it look professional.
D. Make sure your box is Signature Required. You don't want your firearm getting left at the doorstep.
E. Firearms via UPS MUST be sent through a UPS hub. The UPS Stores are individually owned unlike FedEx where FedEx stores are part of FedEx. (note I'm spouting this off the top of my head). The hub is the safest way to go, and from my experience they are fast and straight forward. I'm a FFL dealer and I drop off my packages at the hub and the UPS guy just scans the item and gives me my receipt.
F. UPS guy doesn't know what he's talking about. LOL.

Lol Ryo... A + F = UPS?

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Broker: Don't know if this counts but there's Sportsman and Cascade ranges.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Oh also forgot to mention
shooting sport north west (members only.. way too pricy IMHO, owned by discount gun sales)
West Coast Armory North (Range not open yet, but located where SAM's Gun Shop use to be. Under renovation. Heard the store would be opening soon though.. hope the range opens NOW since I like it's convenient location)

Federal Way Discount Guns just moved to a new facility on 324th in, of all places, Federal Way. They now have a range in the same building.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I'm thinking about another Acme get-together on maybe Saturday November 17th. Is there anyone interested? I'll hopefully have enough ammo loaded that I can get some good dope with my new reloads...

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Broker, the 17th is the Practical Rifle Match at UNSC. Didn't know if you knew that or not. I'll be shooting that again and I'm bringing my A game this time.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Nope I forgot, lol...

Not a good day. That's the weekend of late deer season. You'll need to get in line to drive up the road.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Thanks for the heads up BW. I didn't remember it was the same date as the UNSC rifle match, so I'll have to come up with a different date anyways.
