Guys.

Here is a piece I have cobbled together.

The objective was a 1911 that maintained a lot of the looks of an older gun, yet with practical modern touches that would make it easy to manipulate and shoot well.

The Springfield Armory base gun has had a few alterations, with more to come. I had a long term disaster of an experience with a certain smith, who FUBARed a couple of things, but I am now back on track.

Anyways..

It has:

Small tabbed thumb safety
Old pre WWII steel trigger
Bullseye type hammer
National Match fitted bushing
Kings Hardball rear sight
Wilson front sight
Beavertail (standard grip safety causes me to bleed every time)
Lowered (just enough to eject live rounds and not mangle brass)ejection port

It still needs a couple of things, but overall it turned out pretty decent.

I like it! Looks good man, old school still gets it done.

Re: Retro build with some modern touches.

I like it. A 1911 doesn't have to have thousands in custom work to be functional and also look good.

Thanks,

It is pictured with some of my grandfather's gear, who was a WWII vet.

Upon closer inspection of some of his belongings I noted the notches on his Zippo. I wish I could ask him about those now.

He never spoke much about WWII, other than bitching about being on the ships and eating sauerkraut, beans and weanies. That and he had a lifelong hatred of Japanese people.

Re: Retro build with some modern touches.

Sweet build. I love the GI 1911s, with the main exception of the terrible sights.

Very cool.

Ya just got to love 1911's! I drool on them every way they are served!!

I like it, just enough old and new touches to set it off and make it look different.
