Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Does anyone locally have a manufactured case annealing machine that operates by a slowly turning wheel? I ordered a Giruad trimmer, but looking at several different annealing machines I'm almost curious if I could build a manual annealer of sorts with the wheel design. I can't afford to drop any more on reloading equipment for awhile so I'm looking to improvise. If someone has one and they wouldn't mind letting me look at it I'd appreciate it.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Exactly what I was thinking.. cordless drill and propane torch. Not as cool as a rig, but it works.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I know that method, but I have spare materials lying around and I thought I'd make one that all I had to do was turn the wheel slowly by hand to save time. Just wanted to play with the idea a bit.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Hey guys. I just got back from 3 1/2 weeks in hunting camp. A friend of mine called on my way down the mountain to say he heard that dnr has banned target shooting on all dnr land. Tell me it ain't so.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Jeff that's news to me, I'll do some checking at work tomorrow. Shooting on State Lands (DNR managed) was closed for a while when fire danger was high, but I'm not aware/haven't heard of a total closure or ban on shooting.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Anyone got a spare 700 sa hs or bc stock they can part with. Just got my truck broken into over the weekend. Only took my new m24 stock still in the box from stockys , 2 pair of oakleys, and all my 8k warn winch. Son of a bitch.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Dude that sucks man. Is your homeowners or auto gonna cover the theft?

I had to work this weekend and it happened in our parking lot. I've got a call into my insurance so we will see. I was hoping to have my 700 ready for the practical at unsc but its not looking too good now.

No, it's this gentleman...

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I don't have any extra stocks... sorry. I rarely keep much extra gear around for long. Currently, just a cheap red dot electronic sight, and lots of little Ar15 parts like the pins, springs, detents and other things that are so often lost to the gun room floor.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I don't think I need to tell everyone that Jake is obviously good to go, lol... That's a damn nice rig man. I wish I had the $$$....

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Jake. That the one you just got up, & running? You have some TSI rubbing off on you?

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

This is an awesome thread! Like to see new shooting spot hate to hear about thievin bastards! I know a couple power line right of ways up near snoqualmie pass that ain't too bad. A friend of mine built some trick steel stands to set up as well. I will be ready to shoot next spring. Thanks for the thread!

+1

I use the same method (also I drop them into a bucket of cold water right after heating them up. Cheap, effective, and it doesn't take that long to go through a few hundred cases.

They sell temp pens on the web that help you dial in how long you should be annealing your cases for.

I'm a member at Cascade - Important to know that the Cascade indoor range is air-rifle or .22LR only. They won't even allow .17 hornet caliber. The outdoor ranges at cascade all have covered shooting positions so if you dress for the weather your GTG.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.. Is Acme a shooting range, or does this refer to the LR honey hole up near Sedro-Woolley?

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

That would be the aforementioned "honey-hole".

Yup... Up North. As BW pointed out unfortunately with hunting season in effect we're on hold at most areas for distance.

Also, an FYI to the group here. I'll be around but I might be on the bench for a few months. My Sted-Dad was diagnosed with cancer in his bladder a few weeks ago, and he's getting ready for surgery then chemotherapy. I'm gonna probably be limited in my schedule in order to help my folks out.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Hey Broker, very sorry to hear about your step dad. Best wishes that all turns out well.
Mike

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Thanks Mike... I appreciate it.

Broker sorry to hear about your stepdad, I am sure all of us here wish him and your family all the best.

Thank you Marty...

sorry to hear about your stepdad health problem, I wish him the best and pray for your family.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Guys, I just wanted to put this out there, for everyone that hasn't been to one of Scotts shoots or hasn't shot a match like the Findlay or Kettle Falls, get out for a few hours on Sat 1st or Sunday the 2nd of December at E-burg. Not only will you see what its all about but there will be a wide variety of scopes, stocks and rifles. Got questions, ask, want to fondle a Whiskey 3, an AE AX or an XLR, more than likely someone will have one and for the most part they ain't going to say no when you ask to see their rifle or answer your questions. Want to see the difference in optical quality between different scopes, IOR, Nightforce SS, Vortex, S&B, March they will all be there. Hopefully by now you get my drift, its a great learning opportunity for those that are interested in getting out there in the near future and shooting or those thinking about buying a new stock or scope and would actually like to handle one before making that purchase.
Marty

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

On that note. I have a Swarovski Laser Guide 8x32 lrf in perfect condition for sale. $600.00 ftf. I would be willing to deliver it to Scotts match if anyone is interested.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I have for sale locally, 1999 Berger 6mm 105 grain Hybrids.

All same lot, all boxes but one are sealed. the open box, has one taken out of it and I looked at it. Then lost it, I think, it might be back in the box, but no promises.

Midwayusa has them for $33.50 a box plus $25 shipping
Powdervalley has them for $32 a box plus $25 shipping

I will go $30 a box for each locally. So 20 boxes, for a total cash price of $600 FTF. I would like to keep these local, as they are hard to find sometimes.

I am up for trading as well as long as it is fair. I would be interested in a RH .223 bolt rifle for my wife. Plus or minus cash is fine.

Let me know if you want them. We can meet at a match or whatever works best.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Jeff,

I'm interested in Acme on the 17th. Hopefully Nick can make it too. My shoulder surgery went very well and I'm now able to use my arm. It is a big improvement.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

If you search ebay for the term "annealer" you can get one of these for $330 which isn't bad for what it can do. They provide a link to a movie of it running. This is the cheapest pre-built automatic machine I've found.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Annealer-/300798465280?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4608fc5500

I also use a drill and tourch, but it is a hassle. After 200 cases I keep telling myself I'll never do that again - but I forget after I see my bank account.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

If you guys want to come up on the 17th ok, but be prepared for 1000 idiots everywhere. As I said before this weekend is the late deer hunt, & the range area is the best part of the only open unit up here. I recommend a different weekend. Ill be there, but I will be looking for a buck.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

On another topic. I just zero'd my buis on my dpms & the front post is so high I'm afraid its going to fall out. As the whole rifle is factory ceracoted in desert camouflage I don't want to change the whole front sight. Does anyone make an extra tall front post?

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

If you put it that way...YIKES. I'm not looking forward to a bunch of inexperienced, trigger happy, potentially drunken idiots getting annoyed we are making so much noise and lobbing bullets in whatever general direction they think is dangerous because they want to walk or drive that ridgeline (even if we are using a known safe hillside and berm).

People outside our long range shooting community have generally no concept of shooting distances over 100 or 200 yards. Most just don't realize the skill level, practice or specialized equipment necessary.

I think I’ll head to UNSC. This will be my first rifle match (I shoot lots of pistol matches). If anybody has the basics on when to arrive, what to bring, etc., I’d appreciate it.

Sounds like next weekeend the 24th-25th

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Good call. Trust me. As the weather is supposed to be nice, there will be a hundred Joe happy deer hunters driving around "hunting". On occasion some will even get out of their rigs to walk around. Especially down where the targets are... Been there-done that.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

the weekend of the 24-25 works much better for me, the 17th is the first F1 race in the states in years, don't want to miss any of it, and last day of hunting is another very good reason to stay out of the woods.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

So is Upper Nisqually a go for this Saturday, I really need to check my dope in the real world before Scotts match.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

17 Nov practical rifle match at Upper Nisqually Sportsman's club.

We have our new targets, so I added them into the course for this saturday. The four stages will be to hit the plates assigned for that stage as many times as you can in 60 seconds from various scenarios.

Orientation for first time shooters starts at 8:30am, match starts at 10am.

Please remember: no ammo with any ferrous content in the bullets will be allowed.

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

Hi all.
Alan and I will be putting on a series of 6 matches for the 2013 calender year.
We will check schedules for the big local matches, such as Findlay Cup, Kettle Falls and Oregon Snipers challenge.
These will be theme oriented with as much information given out as possible. They will be all steel and while some won't have large volumes of shots, there will be problem solving to help elevate your abilities.
We will have a schedule out in early December.
Jim

Re: Puget Sound Area Shooter's Group

I will also be putting together a pretty awesome match on February 23rd-24th. Hope to see you all there.

All food will be included for both days! I hope things like Carne Asada, meatlovers breakfast scramble, and angus burgers just to name a couple sound good!!

This is the first match for us, but hope to have lots of people having a great time. And you will get another opportunity to ride in a chopper before the findlay cup! Which is a bonus for sure.
