I am in some need of help and this seemed like the best place to go to get a good answer. I have a wards westernfield model XNH-560-8A (noble model 60) and when i pull the trigger and the hammer falls the slide can not be "racked" again unless the slide releases is manually depressed. I guess i dont even know if they are suppose to do this or not but i would like to know if anybody has any input. Thanks in advance.

Re: Old wards westernfield shotgun?

Could be crud buildup in the sides of the receiver at the lower edge where the trigger group goes in, or one of the wire springs that control the shell latch or bolt release. Had a customer with a 410 Noble doing the same thing. His would also hangup with the bolt racked to the rear. 1 broken spring and 20 minutes of "GOO" removal had it back running smooth. Haven't worked on many of the Nobles but it's one possible answer. hope this helps.

Re: Old wards westernfield shotgun?

The action and trigger group have been cleaned thoroughly. I cant seem to get a schematic drawing of the trigger group large enough and clear enough to see all the parts and where they go but looking at the action itself i dont see anything obvious thats missing or broken. But there is no spring at all on the shell latch so i will have to look into this. Thanks.
