Just got my 1x6, now it's 6pm here so the sun is going down but the illum is much brighter than I would have thought based on some of the initial comments

That's what you call great Valentine!
How is the glass clarity, how do you like the reticle in real life and do the turret marks line up properly????

Please post some pics if possible!!

Thank you.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Wow, that is super bright.

Circle with cross in the middle seems really usable for quick target acquisition.

Please comment on the eye relief/eyebox friendliness when possible.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I don't want to get into this order # bs but I think there was like 5020 likes when I purchased this

I hear you. Scope looks good!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Just found out my scope is shipping today! I order on 4/28/12.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Got the scope two days ago, looks great. Got the turret caps today, they have nothing to screw onto, so unless I'm missing something they don't work . . . hmmmmm.

Wheels, it usually depends on what you want, what is the purpose the firearm you plan on putting it on, what type are you putting it on, I assume an AR15?

In this case we are talking about SS-HD 1-4 vs. SS-HD 1-6. In my opinion the 1-6 trumps the 1-4, obviously. Can you spend a few hundred more for the 1-6?

If you order 1-6 you will have a little more time to save the extra cash. When you order you will not be charged right away but when it ships you will be charged. So how long are you willing to wait? What would you really be more happy with (I think I know this answer), would you kick yourself if you did not go 1-6? I know what I would do today if it was me.

If you ordered 1-6 today perhaps the wait now would be a few months and maybe more, I have no info to know. SWFA still has to complete the 1-6 orders of which they are currently going thru the first few days of the orders placed during 1-6 deal. Then they have to complete the shipments for the 1-6, 5-20 combo deal guys. Then catch up on guys who have ordered since the group buy deals ended. Sounds like a lot but it depends on how fast SWFA is receiving the merchandise from their supplier. I imagine that as they go along, the shipments they receive from Japan get larger? I don't know I just have feeling about that.

But I know what I would rather want as far as these two scopes, I bet you do too so is it worth the wait? Up too you, I've waited 10 months and when it gets here on Tuesday will it have been worth the wait? I'll know on Tuesday
smile.gif

But you certainly will not have to wait near that long.

So you asked..... Get the 1-6 is my answer, hell yes!!!!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Guys who got their ss 1-6x's, how does the reticle feel on 6x. Is it clear, does it get blurry?? How is the eye box friendliness on 1x / 6x? How much room for error is there in terms of head pavement?

Thank you, much appreciated!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Haha, movement and not pavement.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Reticle is good at 6x. Much much more useable than the 4x was (not that the 4x was bad). That extra bit of magnification pushes it over the edge in my mind, from feeling like a low powered optic to feeling like a real scope (just with less mag than most).

It does not feel as fast at 1x (still good, just not as good). I remember one of the things that really stood out to me about the 4x was how forgiving the eyebox was. I don't get that from this scope. It's been 6+ months since I looked through the 4x though, so maybe I'm just remembering it better than it was, but I don't think so.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this scope. It is exactly what I was looking for for my MWS. The 4x was acceptable, but I think it lends itself better to a 5.56 gun. This 6x is close to perfect for this use.

I already installed the turret cap on the windage side.

What are most folks doing for the elevation turret? Leave it exposed? Or capped?

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Several people have mentioned "the" Bobro mount for the 1-6x.

Which one? I see at least 3 different ones on the SWFA site.

BOBB03201300 - low, slightly forward
BOBB03200300 - low, standard
BOBB03202300 - low, extended

I put the slightly forward BOBRO on my 1-6 order. I thought that if I used the extended version the mount might have to be placed almost to the very rear of the receiver. I don't have iron sights of which a rear iron sight might not have room with a mount already there. But in case I ever wanted to sell the scope and let the mount go with it, somebody else would not have the problem that I emagine. Even though I'm really not sure that there would be a problem. So I just made a judgment call & picked the one in the middle.

Edit: oh duh,, I forgot about the red dot I have mounted on a 45* offset under the ocular of the SS 12x, which is mounted in a Burris PEPR qd mount, I have been using on my LR-308. The 45* mount has just enough room behind the PEPR to fit on the rail. So I guess I considered that when I made my decision. Actually I hope that the BOBRO will allow the 45* offset mount to fit in front of the BOBRO. But now that I'll have 1x with the new SS maybe I won't want the red dot on this rifle anymore, dunno....

It's a question I've not come to a conclusive answer on. It is undeniably faster to roll the rifle inboard and use an offset red-dot than it is to mess with the power ring (even with a cat-tail). But, if you're going to do that, then why not have the primary be a 2.5-10x or something? What's the point of a 1x scope if you're going to do all your 1x shooting with a backup optic?

I don't know. Things to ponder. I'm sticking to just the 1-6x on my rifle. If I ever start using an offset red dot, I think I'll up the magnification on the primary.

People who use offset irons do so typically for 3-gun style matches where an additional optic will put you in open class, where you don't typically want to be. An offset red dot is popular for higher magnification.

Speed is king, and sometimes rolling over to the offset sights is faster.

this... I have pondered all of this.

Hmmm what to do with that red dot and mount if I don't use it here... Hmmm, hmmmm.... OH I GOT IT!!! I think I must need a new AR now

Oh darn....

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

For me, the decision between a 1-whatever vs. a scope with an offset option is pretty conclusive. There is no point in using a 1x-whatever with an offset red dot - why sacrifice magnification in your primary if you are going to roll the rifle over and always use a offset mount close up? My biggest concern with rolling the rifle over is that the change in my shoulder pocket makes managing the recoil of fast shots with a .308 harder - I guess I need to practice it more, or put my muzzle brake back on...

The options I see are:
irons
red dot
1-whatever
medium-high powered optic
medium-high powered optic with offset irons
medium-high powered optic with offset red dot

Irons by themselves may very well have their place, but are undoubtedly inferior to all the other options.

Red dots are the fastest. People have run the numbers and they are consistently better than anything else as far as speed is concerned on close to medium-distance targets.

1-whatever scopes are, I think, the best option for a "do-all" rifle. If they are well designed (huge caveat here) you get most of the benefits of a red dot with most of the benefit of a magnified optic, without the weight of two optics or having to sacrifice the consistent cheek weld and interface of one optic.

Medium-high powered optics are obviously great on guns that see their primary use in precision roles, but anything less than true 1x is noticeably slower at close distance.

I think medium-high powered optic with offset irons could be a good option. You get a lot of the benefits close up that you get with a red dot. I still think this setup leans more towards a focus on distance shooting as apposed to lots of close-up stuff, or a healthy mix of both. All I know is, I would not particularly enjoy running a 2 day carbine course with my .308 AR using offset irons and a 4-16...

Medium-high powered optics with offset red dots are heavier, higher profile end result, although they arguably do both roles a little better than the compromise that a 1-whatever scope is. You have a true magnified optic with no sacrifice to usability, and you get a real red dot, not a 1x scope with a illuminated retcile and a small eyebox. I personally prefer the lighter, slimmer, lower profile setup. I also think it looks A LOT better, and looks are important.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I took my 1x6 out to the desert finally this weekend.

The illumination is not remotely visible during the day time, you can only start to see it around dusk

Over all I didn't find it particularly fast at 1x but I probably need some more practice with it. I really had to look for it though.

My aimpoint is (obviously) MUCH faster and more accurate at 1x, think of it like an all black non illum eotech with a barely visible dot/cross in the middle that you have to concentrate to see.

It would probably work fine if you're hitting large sized targets but I had a hard time shooting a do-all reactive target ball at 50-100 yards

I like the 6x side of it though, seems a lot more usable than a 4x

The hide loads super slow for me (both at home and work) so I won't be checking back on the thread too often

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Interesting. Did you try a different battery? It really should be blindingly bright around dusk, if you're only starting to see it then you may have a bum battery. In the middle of the day in the desert it won't be bright, but it should at least be visible when you're not pointed directly at a bright background.

Regardless of illumination, for targets 50-100 yds I'd suggest turning the power up to 2X-3X and you'll find it's much faster. You really only need 1X for the really close stuff. Many of the red dots I've used will completely cover up a 5" target at 100 yds.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I was gonna say, what is the practical application of a short dot--1X in the desert?

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Yeah, got to agree with JonA. Try a different battery. Mine is extremely bright under any non-direct sunlight conditions. Under extreme brightness (sunny day on snow where I'm at), I can tell that it's red, but would not call it "illuminated". However, the beauty of an etched reticle is that when it's too bright to see the illumination, you see the reticle instead.

The "black EOTech" comparison works for me. Don't think it's that hard to track though. The only thing that makes it "slower" in my mind, is that I find it much less forgiving of head position than I remember the 4x being. Not to the point I'm going to complain - it's still quite useable, just not as outstanding in that regard as the 4x was.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Can't wait to get my 1-6. Debating whether I should go with an IOR 1.5-8 and just sell the 1-6 when I get it. Anyone have any experience with the IOR 1.5-8? Got my POF .308 sitting around and still debating if the 1-6 will be enough for it. Will probably be maxing out at about 600 yds. Thanks for any input.

I got mine on monday and it's amazing. well worth the wait. great glass, solid textile and audible clicks, the reticle is freaking awesome. I find it to be just like a eotech. stupid fast on 1x especially both eyes open shooting. I'm really digging mine.

I got the shipping notice for my 1-6X yesterday. Yippee!!

Ordered May 7, 2012
My original order confirmation on May 7 shows order #189367, but my shipping confirmation shows order #415727

I'm not sure why there are two different order #'s...

I ordered mine 5/1/12 and just opened the box 5 minutes ago. The reticle is perfect couldnt be happier and well worth the wait. Everyone still waiting you will be impressed. Clarity is amazing, turrets feel nice and solid. My brother in law has the bushnell 1-6.5 in the next couple weeks we are going to try and do a little comparison.

I ordered on the last day of the 10000 like deal, so I'm probably still going to be lucky to get mine before summer. At least I went ahead and shipped the 5-20 so I've gotten some (full retail price) use out of it.

Somebody told me that it's a true hybrid reticle. And he said that the Eotech/ACOG market will be in trouble.

I received my SS HD 1-6x on Tuesday. This thing is packed with goodies. Reticle is Bad Ass!! It is not daylight bright. If you are standing in bright sun and scope into shade then it is, at least close by shade.

Two things I don't remember if I knew about. The illumination rheostat has on/off increments between the 11 power settings, pretty cool feature i've seen on some other scopes. The ocular focus has a lock ring, I don't remember knowing that so it was great to find it there.

The whole package is pretty sweet. Did I say I love the reticle? This is exactly the scope I was looking for a year ago, it's just right. I didn't think I'd find such a instrument that was thought out like this one was, like it was made just for me.

At 6x the reticles mil scale is not too thick at all, it's not thick. And the open center is exactly what should have been done, the actual decision to have the open center, that is. Thanks for that!!

Thank You SWFA for stealing my thoughts. I don't know how you did that but you could have asked permission, I would have gladly said okay :)

Hell yes it was worth the wait!!

BOBRO mount is awesome, by the way.

So it is properly mounted in BOBRO and bore sighted. Just have to load some .308 ammo & make it to the range.

Mounted mine tonight in the bobro low slightly forward. I am really digging the reticle this scope replaced an eotech and I really don't see the need to keep the eotech at this point. Want to go to the range and do some timed drills with eotech, ss and bushnell just for fun. Should be an interesting comparison for sure. Illumination was clearly visible today in Houston was overcast. I am not worried about day time bright though it's not needed the reticle really stands out and looks like it is going to be super fast for 3 gun. At 6 I love the open center with dot the size of the lines is perfect size not too thin just thick enough to be useful. Elevation turret is crisp and positive, the windage is a little softer and musher is how I would describe it but still nice. Love the spare battery storage and the off between settings. It needs a throw lever was told they are working on one and that the 1-4 lever won't work. Power ring is firm but smooth. All that too say I wouldn't change anything about it, at least not yet it seems perfect.

I ordered on 5/21, Just got a call today to update my cc info. I was told it should go out today or tomorow.
