This chassis is amazing. Got mine about a week ago, and am assembling my rifle. Simply excellent craftsmanship, fit, finish and function.

I was looking over @ the NW Hydro Print site you mentioned... noticed they have separate pricing specifically for doing XLR chassis'. I was kind of surprised at how much more it costs to get one coated than pretty much anything else. Ouch.
Quite a bit more parts to dip than a traditional stock. They do all the butt stock parts, hand guard, action block, and trigger guard separately.

That honestly is the reason i am going to have them do mine, just because THEY DO have expireance doing them. I want it done right. Shit after $1000 whats another $300.
Another 30% more, thats what. Pretty sure you'd scream bloody murder if your bullets or brass went up another 30% in cost...
Just messin' with ya. I realize that its a specialty service on a specialty item and involves more manual labor time due to all the parts, and costs go up accordingly. It just made me re-think whether a good old-fashioned rattle-can finish is so terrible after all...
Just got off the phone with Kyle, stock on the way! And ahead of schedule, Kyle is tops in customer service. I'll post photos after I get her set up.

I have another 4 weeks on the standard Evolution with tactical butt stock. I can't wait either... I find myself drooling over other peoples pictures just about every night, and for about 4 hours at work every day (shh don't tell!)
Mine arrived today and all I can say is wow! The workmanship is outstanding, and it is quite lighter then I thought. My Howa action dropped right in BUT.... as I was afraid of the scope base is too long. I wanted to upgrade anyway so it should be here next week. Gives me time to paint it up and then I'll post some photos. Thanks Kyle, great customer service, excellent quality and the ergonomics feel great. I may have to consider ditching the AICS on my 700 for a carbon XLR.

Sully, my base was too long as well. 2 minutes with a hacksaw and file and it was done. I hit it with black Krylon and you cannot even tell.
2 weeks to go have everything ready to go except the scope and rings...

I thought about that, but the base was the one that came with the rifle and wanted to upgrade anyway. I figured I could wait a week, and in the meantime I was able to paint it up today.

nged guy very happy with my .338LM Savage.Thanks Kyle.Top notch! Has anyone had an issue with the trigger binding after torquing the action screws down to 65 inch pounds? I noticed that once I torque the action to the XLR stock the trigger will fire... once, then not return to preset. I have the Howa XLR so are there any other Howa's out there that had this issue? When I removed the stock I noticed a big burr in the left side of the stock near the bottom by the opening for the trigger. I am not sure if I need to file some out or just add a small washer for between the action and stock? I am not a smith and there are none locally so if I can DIY I'll be quite happy. Any ideas, are greatly appreciated.

Well I figured it out. I had picked up a new scope base before I put it back together. After thinking it over I went back to my workshop and removed the action screws and took off the base, pushed the action all the way forward and reinserted the action screws, torqued to a proper 65 inch pounds and problem solved. All I had to do then was hit the base with a file and strip about .02 mil off and away we go. Guess I'm smarter, or dummbberer then I thought.

I preemptively trimmed my Nightforce 20MOA base with a hacksaw and file, all while tears streamed down my cheek. I think after receiving my XLR, that short term heartbreak will be negated though. Now that it's almost ready, I only need to figure out how to finish paying for the thing

Rangeryo, Thank you. I use Rustolium cammo tan. It seems to hold better then the krylon colors and I just like the tan better.

if i may ask what rings are yall running on the xlr..... im looking at the M10 from ARC and I just havnt really heard alot... I already run a 20 MOA base so i dont wanna run a mount with 20 MOA in it for a total of 40 MOA...
I've got high (1") Burris Xtreme tactical rings to run on my xlr, with a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 scope and NF 20 MOA base. It will have a little more gap than I would like, but my plans are to change to a better scope in the future, most likely a NF 5.5-22x56. If my math was accurate, I should have a fairly tight fit when the dust settles.
My buffer tube is coming loose a bit. What is the best way to tighten it?
I have a question for some of you guys with Savage 4.4's on the XLR stock.
I was having some hand-guard issues, in that vertically, the rifle seemed to be "leaning" forward and thus, the barrel was angling slightly downward.
My gunsmith and I took a caliper to the barrel/hand-guard and horizontally, the chassis is perfect, crazy perfect but, vertically, the barrel was still "leaning forward" quite a bit.
We loosened the hand-guard and re-tightened, mostly fixed my issue because I had it way too tight...However, there was still an issue.
Upon taking the chassis apart and doing some experimenting, we believe that the channel for the action is too deep which, is causing the action/barrel to lean forward...
At the end of the day, it's just a cosmetic issue and doesn't affect accuracy or anything else but, I'm just wondering if anyone else has this issue?

Yup - AR15 castle nut wrench.
I also found that slightly canting the whole cheek piece assembly (by rotating it on the "buffer tube" ) made looking thru the scope very natural and comfortable - no straining, with head pretty much straight up and down.
Masked, my barrel is slightly low in the tube, 700 action though. Give Kyle a call, he will give you the lowdown if something is wrong.

It seems to be a hand-guard issue, I have about a pennies-thickness on both sides of the locking "nut"...In looking at your guys' pics, most of you have a gap but, it's minuscule compared to mine.
I honestly don't really care if it leans a little forward...It's still going to be dead on because the action -- barrel is independent but, it's good to know Kyle has our backs!
Placing my order for a 700LA or SA-LA pretty soon, might even do a Remage! ~ Definitely going XLR again, thanks Kyle!

After just over a week I have now been to the range every day with my XLR and the more I shoot it the more I love it. We had the range yesterday for the SWAT team and I brought my duty 700 and my Howa XLR hoping to get a few rounds off between training. Well after I pulled it out the session deteroiated into a XLR shoot and love fest. In fact it is the only rifle that was shot that day, a bit over 320 rounds (each sniper gets 20 a week and we missed three weeks) and down to a man everyone fell in love with the XLR. So Kyle, would you do a team discount for eight carbon's?

From reading this thread, I guess I kind of lucked out. I am on travel for work and swung by a local gun shop that specializes in long range shooting. They had a XLR tactical on the wall for a 700 LA and I picked up. I love instant gratification. I can't wait to get home and try it out. I called Kyle and ordered the folding stock adapter and he even took care of upgrading the plate on my butt stock so it can cant. Great guy. I picked up an Atlas bipod also.
If any of you are in the San Diego area, Precision Arms is a great place. The gentleman that owns it is a great guy and they have Federal Gold Match .308 and .300 Win Mag in stock at normal market price! One more XLR for a 700 SA also.
Anyway, here is a pick. I'm running around my hotel room going POW POW for now. One more week here unfortunately.
