I recently had a post inquiring everybodys opinion about the ltr in .308. Now I've discovered thr savage 10fcp le. Both have the hs precision stock but the savage has the oversize bolt knob and the detachable magazine. Both would have been future upgrades on the remmy. These rifles are the same price. Any reason to stick with the ltr? By the way, this rifle will be mainly used for puching paper and some long range shooting(300-600 yards).

I had the hs precision FCp in 308, it made shooting 1000 meters almost boring. Very accurate and all I had to do was add optics and a muzzle brake. I had the version with the 5r barrel and it seemed to like 175 gr gmm best.

You're going to fine a lot of different opinions on this. I just drove myself crazy over the same thing but it was with a Savage Long Range Precision in .260 thrown into the equation and I almost bought one.

I ended up going with a Remington 700 AAC-SD. I think both are great rifles and they both have their own positives and negatives.

I've always liked the LTR. Very handy rifle.

I don't like Savage actions, triggers, or anything really. Not to say they are not quality rifles that shoot well- they do. I just prefer the way a 700 works and find them more aesthetically pleasing. So I say LTR.

I'm in the same boat. Had one savage, accutrigger, accustock, stainless the whle bit. Gun shot great, I just didn't feel comfortable shooting it. I like the feel of a good 700 better. I'm not saying one is better than the other, it is just a feel thing for me.

Feel is one of the best inidcators of a persons favorite rifle. You should pick both rifles up and hold them and pick the pros and cons of both. Savage has a great plus of being able to swap out barrels yourself but both platforms have tons of aftermarket stuff and both have great price points. Best of luck with your decision.

this reminds me of the ol' .22 mag vs the .17... which one is better...i like both and i say get both, this way you can have the best of both worlds...

For a factory out-of-the-box, I'd also look at Sako/Tikka options...smooth action and nice trigger, even on the $525 Lite I bought as a banging around mountain hunting stick.

Never had a Savage but I have a 223 and 308 LTR. Add a Jewell trigger with good optics and they are one fine handy rifle! Hard to beat by any standard.

Im bias toward the savage. I have an hs precision .308. I have never owned a remy. But my groups at 100 yards are an inch at most out of the box.
