2013 thunder valley precision shoot dates

Sounds great guys. My dad and I will be there. He uses a Rock River AR-15 with handloaded 69gr SMK's, and does pretty well at 100yds. I'm using a good old fashioned Remington 700 in 308. I put a MIL-MIL FFP scope on it a while back, and it tracks well for the box test at 100 and 200yds, so, assuming I can read wind worth half a damn, I might actually hit something. I tend to shoot from rather wobbly benches out here, as prone isn't allowed, so I've been using a bipod and rear bag for some time. I've got a data book, MILDOT-master, and some baseline ballistic charts for 2600-2700 FPS. We're looking forward to it.
 
Ill be down this sunday for the Intimidator, probably have two or three more shooters with me. Anyone else going?
 
Can anyone give me a max total rounds possible for the HH/Short coarse combo?

I always shoot the intimidator and never shoot the HH.

The Headhunter is 20 rds, and the short course I think (haven't shot it in over a year) could run a max of 36 rounds. If I can get off work later this month I want to shoot that combo.
 
Tom just called and asked me to post the following schedule change:

The OHIO 1000/MILE MATCH 1&2 scheduled for Saturday April 13th is being postponed due to weather delays in preparing the range for a full match. I suspect that he was unable get a full set of target holders correctly set on the 1000 yard berm (they weren't all there last week) but that is conjecture on my part.

The range will be open Saturday as an open range day. Anyone who wants to shoot 1000 yard or mile paper targets for practice will be given an opportunity to have targets set at either range. As usual the steel targets will be available at all our normal ranges for people that would like to use them.

The match scheduled for Sunday is not cancelled and will start at the normal time.

I can't wait to make it up to a match. Waiting for a rifle to be finished from the gunsmith. I am hoping to be up by July and August matches, never shot a match before but I am stoked to give it a go. I still can't believe this range was there and never knew it. Hell grew up in Cambridge and now living in Charleston SC so I missed out
 
Thanks for posting the score sheet Mike.

We had a great day at TVP on Sunday. The Intimidator was fun and challenging. Winds were anywhere from 0 to 15 miles an hour. It was great to see a few new faces and a young shooter. Nice job Kody.

Thanks Tom for hosting a great match. We are looking forward to a great summer of shooting with our friends at TVP and to participating in the TVP Sniper Match.

Great time today guys at the open range. Tom is a very pleasant fellow and happy to help with anything, and the range is just beautiful. I got to stretch my legs and ring steel all the way out to 1000 yards, and some folks were going for the mile. Folks were happy to let us demo their suppressors, and it was a gregarious group. I'll certainly be back!
 
I got a real schooling on wind reads yesterday. Very few shots were repeatable.

In other words, I got my ass handed to me by mother nature. She can be a real bitch sometimes.
 
As you can tell I've been here a long time and don't post very often. I must however break silence to inform my fellow snipers of a wealth of knowledge and experience in long range engagements sitting in Kimbolton Ohio. His name is Tom Sarver he is the owner of Thunder Valley Precision a 1000 yard record holder and precision rifle builder. My partner and I are sniper team leader and assistant team leader for our county C.I.R.T team and we're in search of more advanced long range shooting along with the most important thing to confirm data or dope. Tom agreed to assist us. We arrived at the ranch and confirmed our zeros. We then started to engage 12" and 10" steel plates out to 1200 yards. After that it was rapid bolt manipulations using reticle ranging only engaging 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 yards 12" and 10" steel plates hitting under a ONE minute timer. We then moved on to Toms Intimidator Course which is 4 positions, 4 - 12" square steel targets at each position for a total 16 targets from 276 yards to 1165 yards. I guess there's a $5000 bounty if you hit all 16 plates with your first shot and stay within your time limit. In four years no one has accomplished that including yours truly. The next day it was the Intimidator Course and Toms Head Hunter Course which is 4 positions and 5 reactionary 6" x 9" head targets for a total of 20 targets from 329 yards to 600 yards. As the record stands Tom is the only one to this date to clean all 20 heads with one shot one kill FOR NOW. The reason for this article, was that I witnessed the incredibility of this man Tom Sarver take a shooter who has never engaged any of these targets and have him hitting target from 276 yards out to 1165 yards with winds blowing 5-20 mph from all directions changing 20 times in one minute (we counted) calling dope out with first and second round hits All Day long. I witness this because I was the shooter Tom was calling for thanks Tom. We now have a huge amount of confirmed data at long ranges to save lives thanks to this man. I might also add that the only way a shooter can sport the Head Hunter arm patch is to clean the course with 20 one shot one kill engagements. Thunder Valley Precision offers a number of other courses for Shooters, Snipers and Operators. " I'LL BE BACK TOM"

The only ticks that are out in force are the plethora you hear in the process of dialing in obscene windage.

Unwrap the pantyhose from around your legs, come on out, shoot, and learn.

Or keep it on, if you're really that afraid of ticks..

dont wait for a new shooter day ,just come out and shot! everybody will be more then willing to help. this sunday would be a great one , a lot of targets at mid range.
 
Ill be there sunday. Going to need a shooting partner. If someone is running an MOA scope that would be prefered but if not I can spot corrections in MIL to help ya out.

I did have a mil/moa conversion sheet made up kast year when I has a mil scope but not sure where it is or if i'd still have the file. Also, I'll be there saturday. first intimidator in quite a long time.

Shooting in the rain will be alright Mike. It helps to determine wind speed and direction. Looking forward to shooting both days regardless of weather.
 
Whats going on Sunday at that range? Please post up linky and some details. I'd like to see what you long range hardcores are capable of. I just shot for the first time at 400yds. I don't even know my handloads dope. Anyhow, im thinking of making the trip solo. I have an MOA scope good out to maybe 600 yards....possibly 700 if my ballistics app is right..
 
I'll be there Sunday.. I'm going to shoot it with my 223 over my 260 .. I just built a 2nd 260 today and have built a load for it..

The rain is only 40% last I checked.. Should be fine..
 
great day at TVP today for the intimidator. probably the best weather for shooting i have seen in a long time. pics inbound soon
 
Beautiful weather today, but very challenging wind. VERY challenging wind.

One of those days where the prevailing condition was an 8-12mph wind from the east, but it would drop to 2-3, gust to 20, drop out, then switch to the wes for a minute or two.

I've never had to try so hard to make a hit on a 2moa target at 550 yards. You'd think this would be a gimmee with a .64 BC bullet @ 2850. Nope.
 
Nice pics Russ. Now there's a disassembled 700 scattered around the house drying out.
 
Nice pics - That was fun. I got 10 hits on the Head Hunter testing a new load and 102 on the Short Course playing wind test dummy with my partner cleaning it. Now if he just would have believe that last wind call on the Head Hunter ...

Got home about 11:45 - I have stuff all over the apartment drying out.
