Shooters --

Big Piney Sportsman's Club will hold a newly developed one-day steel tactical precision match at our 800-yard range facility near Houston, MO on Sunday, June 23rd, 2013. The shooter briefing is at 0900 CDT, and the match should be complete by 2pm.

This is a 12-stage tactical match that will test a variety of long range skills from 100 to 700 yards. The match will include various target sizes in both paper and steel, timed and untimed stages, a variety of barricades, known and unknown distances.

Some of the stages include: A 'Man vs Man Counter Sniper' competition pitting you directly against other shooters in a single elimination tourney; a 'Designated Marksman' event to hit five targets at various distances for time...beat the time and you get additional points; 'Know Your Limits' events in both paper and steel to build your judgement of when to take the shot; a 'Hostage Rescue' stage to test your steadiness; a dot drill, and much more. We don't think you will be disappointed.

It is designed to challenge shooters from novice through expert. Bolt and gas guns are all welcome. Round count is a maximum of 60. Most shooters will finish using 43-50 rounds.

Entry fee is $20. Homemade lunch is $5. Water, beverages, and toilet facilities are available on site.

This is going to be a blast. I had a chance to proof a couple of the stages, and I am pumped up about this. Bring good drop data, and practice your skills before hand.

What's the approximate round count? It's been a while, but the match sounds very interesting. Thinking I'll have to make it down, with daughter in tow.

Bring at least 60 rounds. Most shooters will finish after 44-50 rounds, but some stages allow multiple shots, so you will want some in reserve. We look forward to seeing you...it should be a great match.

The Paper Stages:

Stage 1 - Dot Drill for Cold Bore/Check Your Zero/Warm Up - 100 Yards - Five shots only! Large dots (1 MOA) are worth 10 points each for a hit, small dots (5/8 MOA) 20 points for a hit.......Choose wisely. Score up to 100 points. This is the only stage at an even distance...get your DOPE charts ready!

Stage 2 - Know Your Limits - 185 Yards - Up to Five shots only! Only one shot per dot, in any order. Any miss voids the entire stage. Stop whenever you think you have hit the limits of your accuracy. Score up to 100 points.

Stage 3 - Hostage Rescue - 215 Yards - Two shots only! (One per target head) Scores 50 for a hit in the box, 30 points in the head but outside the box, minus 20 for each hit on the hostage. Score up to 100 points.

Glad to hear Big Piney is stepping up! They do put on a good match. Too bad my wife scheduled my daughters baptism that day. How often are you guys going to run these? Are they going to be in the regular match rotation?

Buzz
Glad to see this incorporated into the regular rotation. I hope to finish better than last match( need to beat Brad)
Thanks
Steve

I just talked with my wife, she is giving me a hall pass for Sunday, so should be there.

This will be my first time at something like this, so if you need a good laugh.............................

Branden -

There is a 600 Yard F-Class competition in the morning Saturday, usually done by noon. I will be there by noon to measure out the targets and paint them (although we won't mount them until Sunday morning). I will be there until 3:30, and will do a bit of shooting. It is essentially an 'open range'....you could put up your own paper targets and shoot as long as the range is clear. I am not a board member (actually a relatively new member, just since late last summer), so I don't know the policy on camping, but here is a link to call Bob Roach or Robert Lyons for an answer: Contacts : The Club

Looking forward to seeing you there...

Dang! Work getting in the way of fun again! I was able to attend some events @ Big Piney last year, this is a great facility with awesome folks. Hope to get over for this new format later this year. CKruse

WOW! This was a great day to be at Big Piney, there was a lot of great things happening. The first Steel tactical Match, A Savage Arms rep, the regular three gun match, and Gabby Franco all at one place at one time!!
The Steel match went off with very few hitches, for the first time running things flowed well, but it sure was a long day. We had a great group of shooters. The best part of the day was learning the limits of ourselves and our shooting sticks. A lot of folks were introduced to mildot ranging today. I can see the competition is going to increase in abilities as we shoot this more often.

The day started off with short range paper (100- ~450yds) and then we transitioned back to the near the 600 yard covering benches and broke for lunch. After lunch we started into the steel stages. The instant feedback from these targets is beyond words.
