Recently got into long range shooting.

Im still learning and I need some help

Im running a Savage 110 FCP 338LM.
20 MOA base w/a sightron 10-50x60 LRMD/CM.

It zeroed at 100yds (I live in CT and we dont really have ranges that go out farther than 400ish)

In playing with a ballistic calc it says to hit at 1000yds id need to come up 136 clicks, that seems WAY wrong. I know the rifle and scope can get there, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

I'd check over the inputs for the ballistic program, paying special attention to the velocity, ballistic coefficient and scope click values ( it sounds like that could be the real issue if the default was 1/8" per click).

What program are you using?

Do I have to convery the 20 moa rail to mrads and compensate. I did not thibk so because the 20moa rail gives the extra up clicks, I think....

Don't worry about the base, that's not an issue.

Take your Mrad value and divide by .05, that will be the number of clicks.

Correction for my gun.
SavageLRP in .260
100 yd zero for 1000yds is +262 clicks (1/8min clicks)
or +131 clicks (1/4min clicks)

or +94 clicks in mils (1/10)

For 1k

96.8 clicks for 308; 1/10mil per click

69.4 clicks for 7mm; 1/10mil per click
The 338 should be close to this....but double due to the finer adjustment.

Program seems to be working.

I'm sorry if I seem slow, but....

If my elevation travel is "50" and my minutes per revolution is 2.5 MRAD does that mean I have 50 revs of 50 clicks?

If its clicks then right now there is no way for me to get out to 1k yds, i think.

So in order to reach 1k i would have to get a rail with more MOA (30 or 40) that way I have more up travel or zero at a longer distance than 100yds, also giving me more up travel, right?

I really thank you guys for all the help, this long range stuff make my head hurt :)

I believe you only have 50 minutes of travel TOTAL. The higher magnification scopes don't have nearly the amount of travel as the 6-24 or the 8-32's.
