Thinking of picking up a McMillan HTG for a multi-purpose Savage build; currently have a Bell & Carlson M40 Medalist for a 700SA.

Can anybody tell me how the HTG compares to the M40 Medalist? I'd presume they're really close, but curious about differences in palm swell, grip angle, comb height and forearm shape.

Thanks!

B&C is a great stock for the Money. Also it'll depend on how much work you want to get done. I believe pretty much all McMillan Stocks needs to be Piller Bedded. The B&C sticks all has Full Length Chassis Action Block so you just bolt in and go. If you want to upgrade to higher quality try the Manners with their Mini Chassis Option.

My M40 Medalist is for a 700, the HTG would be for a Savage. B&C doesn't make the M40 Medalist for Savage, so either/or in this case is moot - more interested to know how they compare ergonomically since I own the Medalist.

MCS-T is definitely a nice piece, but the HTG is available and priced attractively.

The forearm is more rounded and traditional on the hunting and the comb is lower.

You'll probably need a stock pack for it or something to raise the comb a bit to make it really comfortable shooting with a scope.

The McMillan will feel much more solid overall than the b&c.
