Ran an OCW the other week with cfe223 and 175smk out of my 308. Didn't do so hot so I ran a test with varget this morning with much better results. I believe 44.5 is the ticket. I pulled one to the right on the 44.2 group.

Remember, with OCW you are NOT looking for the smallest group. You are looking for a series of groups that have close to the same POI.

Based on your results and other similar OCWs, I would work some more in the 42.8 or so to 43.5 range.

So 44.2 and 44.8 are not similar poi's as 44.5? Im left handed and I pulled one in the 44.2 and possibly one in 44.8. Hard to tell but when I miss right that's why.

If you cannot call your shots, it makes it a bit harder.

Also, did you shoot these round robin? Cooling time between shots?

Very well could be the next higher node.

43.3 + 3% = 44.6

The question then becomes whether you want to run the higher node, and lower brass life, or will the lower node give you what you need?

For my gun, 43.5 is the lower node, next node is 44.8. 43.5 got me hits on a 1200 yard target not long ago, so it works well enough. :)

I hear ya. Yes I shot round robin. It was 65 degress and gave it 3 to 4min in between shots. Tomorrow I'm going to hopefully shoot over the chrono. What is your barrel length and you happen to know how fast that 43.5 is flying?

Looks to me that 44.2-44,8 have very similar POIs. The fact that 43.3 looks good too, and 44.6 is about 3% more powder also supports somewhere around 44.4/44.5 being a good place to explore in more detail.

I have a 24" barrel and getting 2600 FPS. Barrel is stock Remington.

I would run 2000MR instead of cfe, it works better with the heavier bullets, CFE works better with 168 and below.

Yeah cfe runs great with the 168's. Shot the 44.5gr from my test this morning at 200. Grouped okay. Right at 1 3/4 5 shot group. Chrono'd the 175's at 2585 average. 20" barrel.

Im running 46.5grs CFE with lapua brass and 168AMAXs, velocity is avg 2819 from 26" barrel.
