As most of you know, we are in the process of changing the handguard. This change is across the board and will probably take place in October/November timeframe. the current handguard will be phased out and replaced with a new one.

This is a SolidWorks drawing of the current proposed new guard. the cuts at and below the centerline will not go all the way through the guard are there for looks and grip surface. Comments??

Really? I don't like it.

It looks like it is too much material to add weight to the gun. Also, it is not going to release heat as well as the current guard. It looks like JP Rifles at the bottom. Not a fan...

I am not a fan of the new look. The old design is MUCH better looking. Might be time to go back to the drawing board on this one as it seems like a step back in design quality. Maybe stick with the current design but leaving the bottom not completely cut through. The new lines do not flow at all. But we don't purchase GAP weapons because they look cool. We buy them cause they SHOOT and SHOOT good !

The old design is not an option, this is not a we want to do, this is a court based decision that falls from the Hogan/POF agreement.

Also this is not a final concept so please refrain from just saying you dont like it give me some ideas. Ill take the consortium and come up with a final idea. I have lots that like this to so again its like everything in life Everyone's taste is different.

Should have a couple different concepts early next week.

Its nothing like Larue, LOL If you ordered yours In January you will get the current one. We have over a hundred in stock.

Keep in mind this is a drawing, it will look alot different than the drawing, as the cuts will be champered and radiused

George,

When do you expect to ship guns ordered in the first two weeks of January?

Am the only one who can't see these pics? What file format are they in? I will gladly convert them to JPEG's and re-upload them...

This looks like the perfect opportunity to make the switch to Mega Arms.

I dont even own a gap and you need to give gap a chance to come up with a final product. This stuff is still in development and i think its way cool gap has the trust in the snipers hide community to ask for our opinions. Kinda not cool to post that in the gap thread.

I had to re-read my post a couple of times before I realized I sounded like an ass. I didn't mean to sway anyone from buying a GAP-10. What I so crudely recommended was for GAP to consider building their rifles off the Mega billet receivers. Perhaps even the MKM KeyMod, Lord knows it would look sexy as hell and shoot lights out. If I do recall correctly, the very first GAP-10s used to be built off a DPMS lower.

ahhhh, ok. my bad. I see what you're saying then.

After reading thru this thread, I ordered mine yesterday.

GAP-10
.308
Bartlein 18" barrel 1-11.25" twist
Surefire brake for SOCOM762-RC
Geiselle SSA-E
Noveske switchblock
Magpul PRS Stock

Now the 10 month wait begins. Guess I'll go PMag hunting.

I ordered on 12/21, I just got the call to send my suppressor last night.

Getting close, I have visions of sugarplums dancing in my head...

You guys in Maryland and Connecticut were shoved forward due to Legislation that was passed and deadlines that came with those laws that passed. We are finishing up December orders this week and January Orders start delivering next week. January will take 2 months to get through. February will take a month to a month and a half. If you ordered your rifle in March-April your looking at a December delivery at the moment. This is an educated guess, we have lots of parts now, so further delays don't look like an issue. We are absolutely doing these as fast as possible but were not going to sacrifice quality for speed!!

Yay sounds like great news! I ordered my rifle early Jan (4th). It seems I'll be seeing my rifle soon :) Its unfortunate Colorado is being used as the poster child for whats going on around the nation. But hopefully we send back a strong message on Sept.10. Luckily I stocked piled a bunch of 20rnd Pmags before the law got enacted.

I would buy one if they got rid of that POF shit and ugly ass , huge rails.

The use of the riser makes using anything but a PRS, almost impossible. It's silly.

You know what's great. You don't have to buy one. Sub .5 MOA guns aren't for everybody. Mine looks like a work of art IMO. And when you have it infront of you, it's a BMF.

Yep, because throwing a bartlien (when AR's derive about 95% of their accuracy from the barrel aline) on a floated DPMS Pattern gun is rocket surgery........
If you think that POF shit looks like a work of art, you need to get out more.

EDIT: OH a cute name homer

Cincinnati GAP-10 Owners:

I am new to the long range rifle community and am looking for an investment that I can grow into but will still allow for some short term enjoyment. I am not interested in graduating through a series of weapons but would rather invest now. The GAP-10 looks to be an ideal platform to begin with iron sights for some “relatively expensive” plinking and then invest into optics and ammunition to enjoy some self-gratification at long ranges.

Before I invest in the GAP-10, I would truly appreciate the opportunity to check out a rig locally in the Cincinnati area. G.A. Precision suggested I join the forum and make the request. I'm new to the forum thing and apologize in advance if I am breaking forum protocol.

George, the current forward-facing vents and skeletonized look is aggressive and "custom" looking. IMO if you're going to go "round" then do the whole handguard round with horizontal vents, ala JP Rifles, or the Daniel Defense modular handguards. Combining vertical vents with the round handguard just looks funny to me.

I don't know how POF can patent a look. There are other similar handguards that use a slightly s-curved forward vent, so there's "prior art" for doing a similar design. I think it would be interesting to play around with a forward-facing chevron, or other really skeletonized handguard looks.

The MEGA MKM Keymod style still looks funny, but it's growing on me.

For those of you who have any doubts to the accuracy of this rifle here's a little funny story for ya. I went out to sight in my new Gap-10 .308 the other day. Now I live in Arizona and it's hot as hell here, 105 degrees at the Casa Grande shooting range the other day. I bore sight the rifle and the first two shots are a bit high but touching one another, make make adjustments and the next three clover leaf at 100 yards. Now I haven't shot a .308 gas gun in ten years. So I set my S&B scope turrets to zero and proceed to shoot some groups, most would have three or four shots touching or in one hole and then a called flyer that would open up the group to 3/4". Not the rifles fault, like I said ten years since I shot a .308 gas gun. So my Gal brenda is watching me through my Razor spotting scope when she say's "A grasshopper just landed on the top of the cardboard target I was shooting at". So I said "I see it", I have my scope on 17 power, I told her I'm gonna shoot it off of there, and guess what, I did. I didn't even hit the cardboard. She said she saw it go poof. So a grasshopper at a 100 yards is pretty damn accurate. Here's a pic of my rifle. Just added the mono pod, I was shooting off of a bipod and rear bag that day.

About the new handguards: Why doesn't GAP incorporate their name or model number into the handguard instead of vertical and horizontal slots. For Example it could look something like this:

G G G
- - -
A A A

or

1 1 1
- - -
0 0 0

or

G 1 G 1
- - - -
A 0 A 0

Hope this makes sense without being able to draw it.

DUDE. Perfect setup! How do you like the MTC turrets on that PMII?

Yep it was pretty hot that day but the rifle shocked me with how accurately it shot

Finalized workorder. Too excited to sleep. This is going to be a long 10 months.

Finalized my workorder yesterday.

20"
.308
Noveske Switch Block
PRS stock
Surefire SFMB762 brake
SSA-E trigger
Magpul OD everything (upper, lower, handguard, barrel, stock)

I've been drooling over GAPs for years and I finally saved enough pennies.
This is going to be the longest 10 months of my life. haha
I was so excited about ordering it I couldn't sleep last night.

I haven't seen any examples of such, but can you order a 22" barrel (ie 6.5CM) and still have a brake / suppressor attachment? The GAP website says 20" maximum, but just wondering if they stick to that.

Sounds like it's gonna be an awesome build . I plan to order one in the Next couple of weeks. I wouldn't mind having the new hand guard either

I also have a 22" .308 10. It's threaded with a thread protector. The light you see is a green hog killing light. Sorry for the crappy pic. Here it is:

After almost 2 years of arguing with wife, she finally gave the go ahead to order my rifle. Now I'm having a tough time deciding between a PWS Mk216 and this rifle. Mainly because I don't want to wait almost a year to have it!!!! lol :(

FWIW, this rifle will also be used as a police sniper rifle.

If you watch close GAP 10s go by in the Firearms For Sale thread periodically - actually one or two there now I believe.

There are 2 GAP-10's on Gunbroker.com right now. I can't tell you what to do but ..... since big purchases come few and far between (kids and all), order exactly what you want. The GAPs will hold their value more. Also I would strongly consider a 260 or a Creedmore over the 308. If you want a short 16" barrel, then 308 and 600 yards is fine. But if you want more yards, then GAP will help you to stretch out there and a 6.5mm will fight the wind better.

Problem is, like I said, I'm also going to utilize this as a sniper rifle for law enforcement. I can talk to the right people and get .260 or 6.5 approved, but it will be VERY hard to get ammo for it through the dept and I'll have to fuss up my own money and fight to get it back. if I go 308, I will have free ammo. that's a huge thing to consider.

I mean I can just use my M14 (still waiting on that sucker) for the sniper role, but I much prefer the GAP-10

and they sure do hold their value! and I haven't looked yet (I will now) but they probably come with a premium 'no wait' price as well.

Some things are worth waiting for :)

About to order the GAP10, which cerakote color should i pick FDE or cayote tan, which of them will match the tan magpul prs stock the best?

When I order mine, the said they can match up magpul FDE COLOR. 6more months wait

I pulled the trigger to purchase my GAP10 in June. I am open to whatever handguard design as long as the accuracy holds up to GAP's reputation.
