After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Any chance of Lloyd making some pod claws for the RND pods..... I may make a set if I get some free time at work!

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

I am in love with that rifle.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Resurrecting this one for some more discussion. Anyone running a different trigger than the stock one. I do have the newer remington trigger but hate the fact I can not put the gun back on safe once I take it off safe. Not really interested in adding a sett trigger, is there any other options out there. Love the gun and set up that I have but this just annoys the hell out of me and is almost a deal breaker.

I have the Kepplinger set trigger. Very nice trigger. Smooths and lightens the first trigger and the set is like a feather.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

I am not a fan of hair triggers the lightest I like is 3 pounds. I like to feel the pressure and then know when the shot is going to break. So I guess everyone's windrunner can only be taken off safe one time and must be put on safe when the bolt is open?

No. You have to "set" the trigger for the light pull. The regular trigger is very nice and not to light. If I have to "un-set" the trigger I will put my finger behind it in the same manner as setting it and push it forward at the same time I am lifting the bolt for extra safety.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Yeah I understand the set triggers, I have one on my flintlock and my 1874 sharps, just saying I do not like the extremely light trigger pull which is the purpose of the set trigger. I am looking for a trigger or a set up that operates like a normal safety, which means I can put the safety on and off when ever i want, not just when the bolt is open and if I take it off safe I can not put it back on without opening the bolt. I appreciate your input, thanks.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Remember, that trigger is not holding back a remmy firing pin spring. It is more like a garage door spring. Just sayin'

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Just get a Huber Concepts trigger you just have to tell John its for a BMG when you order it and the safety will always work with his trigger.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Mechanic, that is what bill told me and I understand that just wandering if there was something else out there. C.K Do you have one on a BMG? Thanks guys. I know the SASR's the safety worked as normal, I would also imagine the mcmillan's work as well.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

sweet, Looks great. Now I have to add another rifle to my list.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Yes

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

I like my EDM will have to look into the Huber trigger, not interested in getting anything else.

Pffffffffffttttt. Bob Lee Swager LOL. You would be surprised how many times I heard spin drift comming out of friends mouths after call of duty and the movie shooter came out.

I will say though that this thread has been getting my interest in grabbing up another EDM rifle. I've been wanting the .510DTC for quite a while and have been making excuses of why I shouldnt get one. Well I have been following the progress of the builds in this thread as well as watching rifle prices on both EDMs website and gunbroker go down to where I wont cry so much when I write out the cashiers check.

Congrats on the builds and keep em comming!

Geeez, thanks for reminding me I paid an extra $1,500 for mine when EDM Arms was in Cali . . . . sigh! Oh well, what's done is done. Does anyone know who makes the bolt knob in the picture above, is that an RND custom?!

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Pestrike- i made the bolt knob. I wanted a bigger one to match the gun and someting easier to grab.

Well it looks awsome, any chance you're up for making another one, for a fee of course?!

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

What brake is that? Looks something like a Fat Basterd, but not quite.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Finally nabbed my a .510DTC Windrunner a couple of months back. Is anyone still upgrading their Windrunners?

Who is offering the modified barrel nut, as well as the tube, and bipod?

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Talk to Lloyd at RND.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-2

Why is it that, the bigger the gun the longer it takes to build???!!!

How do you come to that conclusion?

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-2

It may just be my bad luck but I always seem to have trouble when ordering parts.

My first custom gun was a .338 Titan. I ordered a Stiller action and was told I would have it in 4-6 weeks. 5 months later I gave up and ordered a Lawton 7500. I had it in my hands in 12 days, I was very happy.

When I started on my .408 I ordered my action and barrel from Lawton in March of this year. I was told I should have both in 6-8 weeks. After many phone calls and emails I finally got my action in August but I still haven’t received my barrel. And just to add icing to my cake it looks like Lawton has closed the doors. My gunsmith can not get them to answer the phone or respond to emails.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-2

Yeah, Lawton has gone downhill dramatically over the last few years. I ordered a .338 snipetack from them and it took them a year and a half to get it to me. Then Once I received it they sent me the wrong configuration and I had to send it back to get it fixed. Along with some other issues I had I will NEVER go back to them again.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

WOW sweet looking rifle thank's for posting keep us updated .

Looks like I know what I will be saving for next now I just need to find out if I can get it into Au .

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

Ok maybe I missed it , it is pretty late over here .

What is the advantage of the hand guard , is there something wrong with the stock position of the bipod ?

Also is the Adjustable butt-pad/ Cheek rest worth the extra $'s or is there other options out there ?

Thanks.

Re: After almost a year... (EDM / RND / NF / PVS-22)

The handguard allows the bipod to be moved to a much more stable position rather than close to the center of gravity on the rifle. It also makes it easier to lug it around.

No he is not you can contact him at rndrifles.com

Thank you MountainRogue and everyone else for the great thread on EDM Arms and RND. I just ordered an XM .408 and was considering Three option:

Option 1 - RND Handguard, bipod and maybe the handle. ($ 1,000 plus)
Option 2 - RND Handguard, EDM's Swivel Bipod upgrade ($ 280 + 499 + 100)
Option 3 - EDM's Swivel Bipod upgrade ($499 + 100)

Main concern is messing with the rifle's accuracy and/or barrel's harmonics.

Okay 5 Years later.. How do my we feel about RND products that were added to your Windrunners?

How is the Tube holding up?
Any issues with the bipod?
Did anyone install the handle as well?

And more importantly - was accuracy affected in anyway by the add ons?
My theory is that, if you developed a load for your rifle, your rifle should be final especially
when it come down to your barrel.. True?

Hope everyone and their family are all in good health and looking forward to 2014

I have a the EDM XM408 with RND bipod assembly. So far I have not seen sub MOA accuracy with the RND bipod, but I feel like the inconsistent neck tension in my Bertram brass could very well be the issue. With as much as I have invested I need to keep working at it and get this thing sorted out! Right now my hold up is a broken bushing for my RND bipod that Lloyd at RND has been promising me for three months now. (getting frustrated)

I was a little disappointed with the XM408 rifle as a whole. The stock trigger is awful so I had to machine the lower to accept and install a jewell, as well as design and machine a new safety switch. The mags had to be sent back 4 times to get to function properly. The mags and barrel come blued and are very susceptible to rusting so I had to duracoat them. This should have been done from EDM on a $7000 rifle in my opinion.

If I could go back I would have bought an Accuracy International AX338 and got a turn key, lights out long range system with 90% the capability of the 408 round.

PS: I would definitely sell my EDM/RND rifle package for a significant loss to start over the way I wish I did from the beginning!

So this thread is the most comprehensive thread I have found on SH in regards to the EDM M96/Windrunner. I feel its safe to ask without derailing the thread... I have seen EDM m96's on gunbroker with 375ct conversions but I was under the impression that bill was only doing 50,408, and 338 on the m96 for conversions. Has this changed? So now i can have my EDM 50bmg and swap with a conversion to 408, 375, and 338?
