I took my .223 out to 1000 yd. today testing some Hornady 80 gr. AMAX's .
Specs:
Rem. 700
Rock Creek 1/8 at 20" heavy varmint? ( .930 dia. @ muzzle)
HS Precision pst-025 stock
Nightforce ATACR 5-25

Conditions.
29 degrees F
2000 ASL + / -
Wind was head on shooting due west , shifting slightly to the right.

Load:
Lapua brass
Wolf primers
25.2 gr. of Varget
80 gr. AMAX / C.O.A.L 2.500

I was holding center mass , hitting slightly right with .4 mils of left windage .
And a little high with 9.7 mils of elevation off a 200 yd. zero.
Overall very happy with the 80's as this is my first time trying them at range. DSCN0856.jpgDSCN0855.jpg

Velocity?

Seems like a stiff load of Varget, though obviously long OAL.

80 A-Max ROCK - preferred fodder for my 223AI.

Boiler,
Velocity was a guesstimate of 2820.
I was using 77 SMK with 24.7 gr. of Varget and chronographed them at 2860 av. , but it was 70 - 75 degrees then.

JBM puts me at 9.6 mils @ 1000 with a velocity of 2815.
I was going to have it re- chambered in .223 AI , but it shoots good enough for me not to want to mess with it.
I have a Bartlein HV 1 / 7.7 twist blank that will be chambered in .223 AI when the rifle needs it.
