SAVAGE 110BA 338 LAPUA AT 2600 YARDS (READ DESCRIPTION) - YouTube

TRYING TO FIND A SPOT OUT IN BARSTOW,CA TO SHOOT 2700+ YARDS. I ONLY GOT TO 2600 YARDS. THIS WAS VERY HARD AND FUN TO HIT A TARGET 18X28 INCHES. UNFORTUNATELY I WAS NOT ABLE TO HIT THE TARGET. MAYBE NEXT TIME I'LL HOT THE TARGET HIT THE TARGET. HERE ARE THE SPECS....

RIFLE- SAVAGE 110BA 338 LAPUA MAGNUM CUSTOM 30IN BARREL. LEUPOLD MARK 4 ER 6.5-20X 50MM SCOPE AND 20MOA LARUE TACTICAL MOUNT.

AMMO- HANDLOADS 90.5HR H1000 CCI MAGNUM PRIMERS LAPUA BRASS BERGER 300GR OTM BULLETS. COAL 3.705. 2830FPS

BULLET FIGHT TIME 4.7 SEC TO THE TARGET
ATT 2619FT
TEMP 75DEG
LOW WIND 5-7MPH.
35.0 MILS
3340 INCH DROP OR 278FT HOLD OVER.

I just have to say that 18x28" is a pretty small target at those distances. And most of the Savage's are not known for their accuracy. Hopefully you got a good one.
Honestly you should calm down a bit and take some time between shots. Your obviously rushing and that's why your impacts are all over the place. At these distances, consistency is key. Also taking more time will allow your barrel to cool down a it. The vertical stringing was obvious due to the fact.
Also it sounds like your sniping on a video game with all the Bitch and Fuck language. Just take your time and control your breathing and you will eventually get some hits. And that's a great place to shoot, you should feel lucky to have the location available to you.

To OP nice, I am currently on my mile quest and I also have the Savage 110 BA .338 its one hell of a fun rifle to shoot. To skkeeter I love my BA it is super accurate I think Savage got it really right with this rifle at least in my opinion :)

To OP Im working my load up for that very round and skkeeter was right you should pause and do at least 1 or 2 full breath cycles between shots IMHO, especially at 5 bucks a trigger pull.

I'm not trying to slam the Savage as I know there are some good open's that came out of the factory. My personal experiences are a bit different. I have three friends that purchased them and only one out of the three are shooters. All suffer from sticky cases. I'm glad yours is an accurate one.

OP, how does yours group under 500? Getting your fundamentals down at closer distances will help you in the long run.

I have experienced some stuck cases but only with HSM ammo, other than that its clean and I didn't take offence I know guys who wouldn't touch a Savage because Remington hung the moon ;)

Good shooting Diesel, most people don't really understand how far 2600+ yards is. You did a good job and had some really close calls. You'll get it next time man.

I'm sure he took time between shots and just edited the video for times sake, no one likes to sit around and watch a barrel cool off for a minute or 2. For the record I find that my 110 BA likes to cool off 2-3 minutes for maximum precision.

Nice shooting. I plan on taking my 110 BA .338 out this weekend to sight in. I can get out to a grand but nowhere near that kind of distance. That's a nice view! Does anyone know what the thread pitch is for this barrel?

+1 Grizzdude, I am working up to a mile and 1200 seems like a poke to me, Diesel that was def close. mile and a half aint no joke, My target is approx same size as yours so Im hoping to put at least 3 out of five at a mile. Good luck with your quest, I love ELR oh and sexy rifle if I didnt know better I would say you got in my gun cab ;)

Very nice! Wish I had a spot like that. My shilen 338 barrel will be here monday for my 110, so you got me amped up now! Have you tried Hornadys 285? I picked up some at a gun show pretty cheap, not sure how they'll shoot. It does look like the OTM's are working well.

Did you check out the dirt around the target? wondering, because it looked like a couple were right there.

Just north of Edwards AFB base there is BLM land that you can easily get to 2 or 3 miles, just try to stick to shooting east to west, the land just south of the Cal city MX park is where I am talking about

Thanks Grizzdude. 1.47 miles is a long ways. I got the barrel hot and was hitting low about .5 to .7 mils. about 12 rounds

What the spec on the Shilen barrel? price? No I haven't tried the 285gr hornady bullets yet. I heard good thing bout the bullet. I check around the target and they were close about 8 inches off the target.

Good shooting! 8"....thats sweet! You think at that distance she still has the energy of a 44mag?

I went through Jim B. at NSS. He ordered it for me and drop shipped last week. Lovin it already! 28" +2" thread on VIAS brake, 9 twist 4 groove ratchet riflings, select match grade, cost shipped with brake installed and extra HD recoil lug, 599.46. Ordered last January, so prices may have gone up a bit since then. I can tell already she likes hot loads with 250's. trying some 285's and 300's this week with 869 and H1000 behind them. She weighs in at 18lbs, so recoil isnt bad at all. Stays right on target after the pulse.

Also....Last gun show in Puyallup, a guy sold me Hornady 285's factory blems, (looks good to me, slight scratches and dullness). I picked up 300 bullets for $75. Keep an eye out for blems. I'll post up this weekend and let you know how they shoot.

You are shooting VERY fast..
Almost to the point where I can't believe your rifle is level , steady and steady trigger squeeze..

But I'm the guy sitting here wishing I had a 338 LAPUA :)

Kyle

You had some really close shots & some that seemed to go way off, I know that's a really long shot & any change in conditions would cause poi changes but are you sure you didn't use the wrong holdovers on some shots since you were shooting pretty fast? I need to join you on your next try, I've yet to shoot beyond DesertMarksmen 1k yds.

I have edited the video shorter so it looks like i was shooting fast I took my time and waited. this was a very difficult shot.

Sounds like my wife and I shooting together. Her spotting is pretty similar, "far right/far left". One day I'll get to 338 territory, but don't have $2000 lying around for the 110BA.

hey diesel! been watching most of your videos on youtube. liking the shop videos too. next rifle I'm looking at is a 338. savage is a big contender in my choices. keep it up, more practice means tighter groups
