We all know the big names... I'm going to replace the .308 barrel with .260cal. Right now I'm leaning towards "lilja" because of wait times. I want an 28" 1-8twist. Opinions wanted please.

if you know all the big names just find whoever has the spec you want in stock and roll on if you're not attached to a name. rock is my preference but any of the others would do.
Kreiger has a pretty long wait time. Lilja is about 9weeks, I didn't call "rock" yet, I'm still doing my homework..
I just bought an Bartlien 8 twist heavy varmint 6.5 mm on Saturday. It showed they had 6 more in stock at Bugholes.com UPS shows it out for delivery tomorrow.
While Grizzly is nice. Thier shipping charges are atrocious. I would have paid $35 more from grizzly for the same barrel.

+1 on bugholes.com....go to his site and choose whatever manufacturers barrel that is in stock...you can't go wrong there

1- Bartlein.
2- Krieger.
Call a Hide sponsor to do the work. Most stock the two above manufacturers.
GAP, SAC and LRI, would be high on my list to do the machining and cerakote.
28-in, hope that's just for Bench shooting. 24-26-in sounds more user friendly especially if you add a brake.

Yes it's a "Bartlein" barrel.number #13 contour. I ordered it straight from them.yes it's for my Rem700. It's currently in .308 and shoots light out but I'm going .260 for longer shooting out to 1200yds. I was having my local gun smith do the work but I don't mind giving the business to a member here. I'm just going to shoot my rifle till the barrel comes in...

One other thought, in all my reading here and on other sites, I noticed that people shooting 140 gr bullets get their loads developed quicker and they seem to group better with a 8.5 twist vs an 8 twist. Th 142s seem to do better in the 8 twist, I have a 8 twist and it took me some time to get the load developed running the 140's, never could get the 140 Amax to shoot less than 5/8ths no matter powder or OAL. Getting the 140 smks in one hole with 43.1 H4350.001 off the lands. My next barre will be a 8.5 twist.

I will be shooting the 142SMKs as this is what my friends loads. He's the best friend to have.. Retired....loves to reload... And a perfectionist!!! He will load me 50 rounds and test group them to find the sweet spot for my rifle... I'm a lucky man!!!

Don't know if you can find much of a difference in performance between any of the larger barrel manufacturers. I think it may have more to deal with what type of rifling process you want (cut vs. button etc...) FWIW I had a Broughton 5C tube on my .260. Did not put a lot of rounds through it before it sold, but it did throw a ~.5 MOA group during load development. That was without powder type and charge development.
You cant go wrong with bartlein, krieger, hart, brux, rock creek, schneider
